Chapter 231 Special Patient

Mary took James to this cozy little restaurant they used to love.

She casually ordered two steaks and a salad, just like old times.

"Surprised you trust me this time," James said, feeling a bit awkward at first but then relaxing, remembering they were divorced.

"I've doubted you so many times. This time, true or not, why not trust you?" Mary replied, easing up and treating James like an old friend. "Besides, you saved me twice. Could I really call the cops on you?"

James opened up. "Even if you did, I have a clear conscience. You were really possessed. Haven't you noticed your amulet is missing? You seem less angry and more energetic."

Mary was taken aback, touched her neck, and realized the amulet was gone. She felt lighter.

Before, she was always agitated and pessimistic. Now, she saw things more clearly.

"Was there really a problem with the amulet?" she asked, hesitant. "It's not that I doubt you, just never seen it."

"There was," James said. "It had an evil spirit, but I destroyed it. Before it vanished, it said someone named Jane wanted to harm you. Do you know her?"

"Jane?" Mary almost spilled her lemonade. "She wants to harm me?"

She believed the amulet was cursed because no one else would mention Jane to James.

Jane was her cousin who always tried to undermine her.

James nodded. "Yeah, she wants you and the Smith Family to suffer."

"So it really is her," Mary said, sipping her lemonade, looking pained.

She had heard the Smith Clan planned to sideline her and let other family members take over TG Company. TG had faced many issues recently, from resignations to loan cuts, all perfectly timed.

Rumor had it Jane was behind it, and now it seemed true.

Seeing her expression, James smiled. "Someone you know? Another lesson learned?"

"Yeah, people's hearts are unpredictable," Mary said, regaining her calm. She glanced at James. "Even you cheated on me with Olivia during our marriage. I may look down on you, but I have my principles."

She criticized James, "Unlike you, who even negotiated a price agreement with a woman."

"Stop," James said, cutting his steak. "I've already said, regarding Olivia, I have a clear conscience. No matter what you say or think, my conscience is clean with you and the Smiths. There's no point in discussing this."

James looked at Mary and said, "Talking about it won't change the past."

"Fine, let's drop it," Mary replied, taking a bite of salad. Then she stared at James and said, "But let's talk about you touching my chest in the hospital."

James was taken aback. "Didn't I say? I was saving you."

"I don't care, you touched me, you owe me," Mary insisted. "Don't worry, I won't ask you to marry me or break up with Olivia."

"I just want you to come with me to see a client after lunch," she said, picking up a grape. "If you cure him, we're even."

James asked, "What if I can't?"

Mary didn't answer, just bit into the grape, crushing it.

James suddenly felt a pain in his lower body.

At 2 PM, Mary pulled James into the car and gave Samuel an address.

Samuel hit the gas, and they quickly left the restaurant.

On the way, James asked, "What's the patient's condition?"

Mary thought for a moment. "I've heard he has headaches, nightmares, and can't sleep without pills. I'm not clear on the details; I'm not a doctor."

She added, "This client isn't a big account, just over ten million a year, but he has potential. His pharmaceutical and cosmetics companies do billions annually. If we can help him and get more business, even one percent, I can relax a bit."

Mary didn't hide her intentions.

James was surprised. With annual transactions worth billions, this client must be significant.

He looked at Mary and smiled. "Is this the first time you've asked me for help?"

"I'm just using you," Mary said bluntly. "Might as well if I can."

James looked helpless. "Do you have to be so practical?"

Mary turned her head and didn't speak again.

Half an hour later, the car crossed a 3,000-foot bridge and drove onto an island full of peach trees.

James was surprised, glanced at the road sign, and realized they were at Peach Blossom Island.

He remembered the Peach Blossom Villa No. 1 he had given Mary as a birthday gift, which she had returned.

He wondered if they were going to see it today.

Ten minutes later, the car arrived at a villa with a sign that read Peach Blossom Villa No. 3.

This villa was just across the road from Andrew's Peach Blossom Villa No. 2, and 165 feet up the road was James's Peach Blossom Villa No. 1.

It was clear today's patient was important.

"Hello, I'm Mary. I'm here with a doctor to see Mr. Hayes," Mary said, leading James to the guardhouse and speaking to a security guard. "I've spoken with Miss Hayes."

The guard nodded, confirmed with his walkie-talkie, and opened the gate to let them in.

At the main building entrance, a woman in a long, pearl-studded dress greeted them.

She was beautiful and tall, but her face was haughty, like a queen.

She greeted, "Miss Smith, good afternoon."

Though she greeted them, her arms were crossed, showing no intention of shaking hands.

Her tone and demeanor were unmistakably Philadelphian.
