Chapter 400 You Will Never Get Me in This Lifetime
Collecting the Debt? James was taken aback. Someone dared to owe money to Wish Group?
He glanced at Coralie and lowered his voice, "What's going on?"
Coralie didn't respond to James. Instead, she handed him a copy of the documents she was holding, feeling utterly exhausted.
James's lack of concern for the company would eventually get him fired by Wish Group, but she had done her best, and Bruce couldn't blame her.
A loser was a loser. He couldn't even compare to Vance, let alone the renowned doctor of Rosewood City.
Coralie sighed inwardly, praying Bruce wouldn't try to set her up with James again.
James didn't notice Coralie's expression. He took the documents and quickly understood the situation.
The Fisher Shipping Group owed Wish Group twenty million dollars, and the payment was overdue by four days past the sixty-day cycle.
If they didn't collect this money, it would affect the entire department's performance evaluation.
This was indeed a tricky situation, but when James saw the person in charge of The Fisher Group, he couldn't help but laugh.
"So, what do you all think we should do?" Vance yelled, clearly furious.
"If we don't collect this money, it will affect our performance evaluation. Not only will I get criticized, but your bonuses will also be gone."
Seeing everyone remain silent, Vance slammed the table. "Do none of you have the courage to even try to collect the debt?"
As soon as he finished speaking, dozens of people reluctantly spoke up, "Mr. Murphy, it's not that we don't want to collect the debt, but the risk is really too high."
"The client is a ruthless person. We don't stand a chance against him."
"If we upset him, losing a limb would be the least of our worries. We could end up at the bottom of the river."
"We only make a modest salary each month. We don't want to risk our lives."
"That's right, Mr. Murphy. We're too insignificant compared to him. We probably wouldn't even get to see him."
"Not seeing him is one thing, but if he gets annoyed, he could crush us with a single step."
"I think Mr. Milo Murphy should handle this. His status would make the client take him seriously."
"Yes, Mr. Milo Murphy shoule be able to deal with it."
Everyone chimed in with suggestions.
Vance slammed the table again. "Idiots! You always want my uncle to handle everything. What are you all here for?"
Coralie hesitated, "Mr. Murphy, the main issue is that we're too insignificant to make an impact."
"Enough with the excuses." Vance decisively announced, "Whoever collects this debt will get a ten percent commission."
A hefty reward would surely attract brave souls.
But this time, everyone remained silent. Ten percent was indeed tempting—two million dollars, several years' worth of salary—but they needed to stay alive to spend it.
"I'll collect the debt." As Coralie and the others lowered their heads, James casually stood up. "But Mr. Murphy, don't forget my commission."
James? Collecting the debt?
Everyone was initially shocked, then sneered at James.
This kid probably didn't know who the client was, so he wasn't afraid.
Coralie reached out to pull James back. "James, stop messing around. Sit down. This isn't something you can handle."
Vance was initially stunned, then he smiled sinisterly, "James, you want to collect this debt?"
James nodded. "That's right."
"Fine, the task is yours. If you collect it, the ten percent commission is yours."
Vance's eyes lit up. This was a chance to get rid of James. "And I'll promise you won't have to clock in every day anymore."
"Mr. Murphy, James is acting impulsively. He's an outsider. How could he possibly collect the debt?"
Coralie waved her hand. "Don't take him seriously."
Then she turned to James. "James, sit down. The client's background is very complicated. Don't try to show off."She was anxious. "You could end up losing a limb."
James smiled faintly, "Don't worry, I'll be fine."
"Okay, it's settled." Vance quickly finalized the matter, "You have one week to collect the money."
"If you succeed, you'll get two million dollars. If you fail, you're out of Wish Group."
"And the commission from the two renewals the day before yesterday will be forfeited because you wasted everyone's time."
He looked at Coralie. "Coralie, stop advising him. Young people need to learn to grow up."
Coralie could only close her mouth in frustration, then stomped her foot at James. He was so clueless.
"I don't need a week." James took out his phone.
"Not a week?" A beautiful saleswoman with long legs leaned against her chair, laughing mockingly, "Like last time, you'll solve it with a phone call?"
James selected a number and spoke, "That's right, just one phone call."
Dozens of people burst into laughter, looking at James with ridicule.
They had already heard through the grapevine that James managed to secure two renewal clients because Vance had arranged it to win over the crowd.
So everyone despised James.
Several attractive women covered their mouths, laughing. James thought he had connections everywhere, but without Vance's protection, what could he do?
Coralie was also displeased with James. "James, enough. Stop pretending. Everyone knows the truth. Pretending will only make people hate you."
Vance snorted, "James, be realistic. Stop with the theatrics."
He didn't believe James could solve it with a phone call.
The call was quickly answered, and James spoke calmly, "Clarence, come to Wish Group and settle the twenty million dollar debt."
Several beautiful women laughed again at his words, with mockery and disdain.
Coralie was also furious. James had really disappointed her, to the point of utter despair.
She hadn't expected James to turn out this way. So vain.
Or maybe this was the real James?
Ten minutes later, as Vance and the others were about to adjourn the meeting with disdain, the door to the public relations department suddenly opened.
Clarence appeared with a group of people.
The atmosphere was intense, causing many to shudder and leaving Vance and the others stunned.
Clarence? He really came?
How was this possible?
A group of female salespeople couldn't believe it, Vance couldn't believe it, and Coralie rubbed her eyes in shock.
This must be a dream. How could it be real?
"Is Mr. Williams here?" Clarence asked politely, "I'm here to settle the twenty million dollar debt."
"Find the finance department to handle it." James stretched and walked out of the meeting room. "I have some other matters to attend to."
He was telling the truth; Mary had something important to discuss with him.
Clarence respectfully replied, "Yes."
James left Wish Group and was about to start his car when he heard footsteps behind him, "James! Wait!"
James turned around and saw Coralie chasing after him.
He asked curiously, "What's up? Is Vance not letting me leave?"
He raised his phone. "I recorded everything. Ten percent commission and freedom from clocking in."
Coralie's face turned serious. "Don't you owe me an explanation for today?"
James actually knew Clarence and had a good relationship with him. Why didn't he tell her earlier? She had worried for nothing and embarrassed herself.
James was puzzled. "What explanation?"
"You—" Coralie was at a loss for words, feeling deeply frustrated.
James held his car keys. "If there's nothing else, I'm leaving."
"Playing hard to get? With that attitude, you'll be single forever." Coralie was furious. "You'll never win me over."
With that, she returned to the company.
