Chapter 93 Poisoned Again

Because of a fallout with Mary, James did not return to the Smith's villa.

He let Samuel go home to rest and spent the night in a small inn opposite JZL Medical Hall.

After two fierce battles, James thought he could sleep well, but he fell into a nightmare.

In the dream, he and Mary were surrounded by dozens of black-clad agents. He fought hard to carve a path out.

Just as he was about to escape with Mary, he was stabbed in the back.

James turned with all his might and saw a familiar figure. He tried to see clearly, but the figure became blurrier and blurrier, and the person was taking away Mary.

James felt a wrenching pain in his body and soul. He wanted to reach out to stop them but was met with another merciless stab. He couldn't help but cry out.

James sat up abruptly, drenched in sweat. Even his hair was soaked.

He was still in shock.

What worried him was not being killed but Mary drifting away from him.

James mocked himself, "Eighteen years of love at first sight, and it's still so hard to forget."

Then he got up, washed up, and changed into a clean set of clothes.

Thirty minutes later, James appeared at JZL Medical Clinic.

Kelsey seemed to know he was coming and had prepared sandwiches and milk early. Not long after, Daniel arrived in his BMW.

Just as the three were having breakfast together, Natalie's shrill voice pounded the clinic door heavily.

Natalie shouted, "Daniel, James, help!"

James and Kelsey immediately dropped their breakfast and rushed out. As soon as they opened the clinic door, Natalie collapsed to the ground.

Behind her stood Darrell, his face pale, breathing rapidly, his mouth slightly agape, unable to utter a word.

Daniel quickly helped Darrell up. "What happened?"

Natalie looked distressed. "I don't know. We had breakfast and were taking a walk nearby. He collapsed as soon as we reached the corner. It's early morning, and waiting for an ambulance would take too long. I had to bring him here."

There was another reason she didn't mention. JZL Medical Clinic was cheap, with consultation fees at $4 and emergency fees at $15, much more affordable than an ambulance.

Daniel exhaled deeply. "Master, what's wrong with Darrell? His symptoms seem familiar."

"Of course. He's been poisoned again." Before Natalie could say anything, James, who had checked Darrell's pulse, made the diagnosis. "It's the same as yesterday, food poisoning."

Daniel exclaimed in surprise, "Did he get food poisoning again?"

"Natalie, I told you. You can't eat spoiled food." Daniel scolded. "In this hot weather, it's best not to eat leftovers."

Natalie jumped up. "Impossible! We may not be very wealthy, but we're very picky about food. We only eat seasonal fruits and fresh meals. We rarely have leftovers. How could we eat spoiled food? We eat the same food and drink the same water. I'm fine, so why is he sick?"

She looked aggrieved. After all, she was a respectable person with wealthy background. It was insulting to say she ate expired food.

"Daniel, when Darrell gets better, help Natalie take him home." While detoxifying Darrell with acupuncture, James instructed Daniel, "Check if there's a problem with the water source at home."

Although James could determine that Darrell had food poisoning, Natalie's firm attitude made him curious, and he wanted to find out what the problem was.

Daniel nodded repeatedly. "Understood."

As James performed acupuncture, Darrell soon began to tremble and vomited violently into the trash can Daniel held. The smell was quite unpleasant.

This time, James detected the scent of several medicinal herbs.

Just as he was about to examine the vomit, Daniel had already rushed out with the trash can and quickly disposed of it down the drain.

James wanted to say something but ultimately shook his head and let it go.

Darrell and Natalie left $15, thanked them profusely, and departed from JZL Medical Clinic.

As soon as the clinic door opened, patients began to stream in continuously. Despite the noisy environment, James and Daniel's confidence made the neighborhood folks unconcerned, and they lined up one by one for treatment.

James saw twenty patients in one go and left the remaining few to Daniel while he retreated to a room to ponder some prescriptions.

By the end of the day, James had made significant progress. As he noticed the sky darkening and was about to leave JZL Medical Hall, he saw Stephen running over.

Stephen wore a broad smile. "James, James, there's something I want to tell you."

Since James had called him over to suppress Alexis, Stephen had stayed at JZL Medical Hall and genuinely helped with the daily tasks.

James had tried to get rid of him, but Stephen was determined to stay. He said he wanted to atone for his wrongs and would leave only after the clinic's renovation was complete.

Seeing Stephen's stubborn attitude, James did not insist further and treated his alcoholic fatty liver as a form of compensation.

Although they had seen each other many times, Stephen's respect for James outweighed any sense of closeness, so his approach today surprised James.

He looked at Stephen and spoke, "Mr. Green, just say what you need to."

"Just call me Stephen; Mr. Green is too much," Stephen replied with the utmost respect, having already understood James well.

"James, here's the situation. The Greens had a batch of medicinal herbs this quarter, worth three hundred thousand dollars at the original price, that were to be destroyed due to dampness, mold, and contamination. And then CF Clinic took an interest in it." He hesitated for a moment. "Alexis, driven by greed, sold them to CF Clinic for forty hundred thousand dollars."

James was slightly surprised. "They sold it to CF Clinic? But CF Clinic uses different methods for treatment. Why would they buy The Greens' medicinal herbs?"

"I heard CF Clinic concocted a blood tonic formula and wanted to produce a batch of pills called NeuroCalm through a small workshop," Stephen explained, having gathered quite a bit of information. "It's common practice for doctors to sell some supplements to increase revenue."

James felt a slight unease, suddenly recalling the conversation between Addison and Alice yesterday morning.

CF Clinic was indeed working on a formula product.

"But I suspect that the person in charge of this project, driven by money, bought our contaminated herbs," Stephen continued. "I only found out today that your wife's mother runs CF Clinic."

Stephen said, "James, I'm really sorry."

He took out a credit card. "Here is eight hundred thousand dollars. Consider it my apology. As for Alexis, she will be punished by working at the clinic for ten years. I'm truly sorry."

"Let's talk about apologies later. For now, keep this matter under wraps, and don't let it spread," James said, his brows furrowed tightly. "I'll get to the bottom of this first."

Stephen nodded repeatedly. "Okay, okay."

James hadn't planned to go home, but now he had to make a trip to the Smith's villa. Just as he started the car, his phone vibrated.

He put on his headset and soon heard his secretary Isabella's panicked voice.

Isabella said, "James, James, something's wrong. Mrs. Smith is in trouble."
