Chapter 398 The Merit of X Serum

To protect the patient's privacy, James disabled several surveillance cameras in the hospital room before starting the acupuncture treatment.

Seeing this, Isla was furious, but with Gerald present, she didn't dare to lose her temper. She decided to wait until James failed to treat the patients before confronting him.

Kaida was busy preparing the necessary herbs while anxiously watching the entrance to the hospital room, hoping James would succeed in saving the patients.

This situation was crucial for Gerald's career. If James failed, Isla would blame Gerald, and he would be held accountable for poor judgment.

Unlike the others, Gerald remained calm, sitting at a long table and sipping water. Occasionally, he glanced at the entrance to the hospital room.

After half an hour, Isla, who had been pacing back and forth, couldn't wait any longer. She sent a trusted aide to check on the situation.

The aide took advantage of Gerald's distraction and quickly ran to the door, peeking inside. He saw James performing acupuncture on nearly a hundred patients with incredible speed. Boxes of silver needles seemed to rain down, and soon, each patient had nine needles inserted.

James's fingers moved swiftly, causing the patients to tremble. Before long, they began to vomit black blood.

The aide rushed back to report, "Ms. Gonzalez, that guy is performing acupuncture on the patients, making them vomit blood. They look like they're about to die."

"What? He's using acupuncture to detoxify them and making them vomit blood?" Isla was shocked and exaggeratedly shouted, "This isn't a doctor; he's a butcher! Does he think it's the Middle Ages where bloodletting cures everything? Mr. Rivera, the expert you found is going to kill these people. A hundred patients, all doomed because of him."

She yelled at Gerald and then put on a disposable hazmat suit, storming into the room and turning on the lights. She saw James removing the needles from the patients, who screamed in pain and bled from their orifices, looking as if they had been stabbed.

James remained calm, seemingly more excited the louder they screamed. He quickly removed the needles, causing the unconscious patients to regain sensation and scream in pain. The sight of the blood was horrifying, making it seem like the patients were on the brink of death.

Isla was furious and charged at James. "You bastard! You're supposed to save them, not kill them. I'm going to have you arrested."

She kicked at James, but Kaida intervened, gently blocking Isla's kick and pushing her back.

"Kaida, are you out of your mind? You're protecting him?" Isla was enraged. "Can't you see he's harming people? Arrest him!"

She ordered her men to seize James.

"Stop!" Gerald entered the room, shouting, "Isla, do you think I'm dead? James is saving lives. Why are you interfering?"

He had absolute confidence in James.

Isla's eyelid twitched, and she said to Gerald, "Mr. Rivera, I respect you, but this guy is playing with the lives of nearly a hundred people. I can't allow that."

She paused and put on a merciful face. "Look at the patients; they're either screaming or vomiting blood, suffering terribly. They're already poisoned, and now this quack is making it worse."

She stood her ground. "If you insist on protecting him, I'll have to accuse you as well."

"Are you deaf? Didn't you hear what I just said?" Gerald's voice was authoritative. "I'll take responsibility for James's actions. The treatment isn't finished yet. Why are you in such a hurry?"

"I can't wait any longer. I can't sit by and watch lives slip away," Isla declared righteously, signaling to a middle-aged man, "Director, check the patients thoroughly and see if their condition has worsened."

She wanted to use the grim reality to embarrass Gerald.

The director and dozens of experts immediately began examining the patients. Soon, they were all stunned, unable to believe the patients' condition. They re-examined them, still in disbelief.

The team leaders reported to the director, who was equally shocked by the data in his hands.

How could this be?

Seeing the director's expression, Isla's face turned cold. "Director, what's the situation?"

The director's eyelid twitched, and he whispered a few words to Isla.

How was this even possible?

Isla's body trembled, her face pale, and she couldn't help but look at James.

The latest examination results showed that although the nearly hundred patients were still weak, they had passed the critical stage, and the toxins were under control.

She didn't want to believe it, but the data contradicted her doubts.

Gerald looked at James, who remained calm, and smiled knowingly. He approached Isla with Kaida and others, asking, "Ms. Gonzalez, how are the patients now?"

The director and the experts remained silent, looking at Isla.

"Thank goodness, the situation hasn't worsened due to improper treatment," Isla said coldly. "In fact, the patients are much better than before. But this isn't because of James's acupuncture. It's the X serum from the medical department that suppressed the toxins and restored their bodily functions."

She lied without hesitation, "In other words, the X serum saved the patients."

Kaida couldn't help but laugh angrily, "What serum? It was James who saved the patients."

Isla smiled dismissively, "Kaida, I understand your feelings and your position. Naturally, you want James to be the hero. But medicine is about evidence. The director and the experts can confirm that the X serum saved the patients. But don't worry, I won't accuse Mr. Rivera, nor will I hold the previous bet against him. For me, the patients' well-being is more important than anything."

Hearing her words, many medical staff who didn't know the truth applauded, expressing their admiration for Isla.

Before Gerald could speak, James approached, smiling at Isla, "Ms. Gonzalez, are you sure the X serum can detoxify?"

"Of course. If it wasn't the X serum, do you think you could bring people back to life?" The director sneered, "Or do you think we're fools? Acupuncture detoxifying a hundred people? Even movies wouldn't dare to show that."

Several aides nodded in agreement.

Isla stood in front of James. "Young man, it's better to be down-to-earth. Don't try to attract attention. This time, the X serum worked, and you didn't cause a big mess. Otherwise, you'd be in jail. Next time, don't be so eager for quick success. And don't try to take credit for the director's X serum."

She turned to the director and the medical staff. "Tonight, you are all heroes, the most beautiful angels in white. I'll make sure you get the recognition you deserve."

"Thank you, Ms. Gonzalez!" The director and the others cheered, their voices almost lifting the roof.

"Thank you for your guidance, Ms. Gonzalez," James said humbly, signaling Kaida not to be angry. "I'll be more careful in the future."

"Good to know," Isla said proudly. "Now, leave with Mr. Rivera and the others. Don't interfere with the director's next steps."

She shook hands with James out of courtesy.

As they shook hands, Isla suddenly screamed, noticing a needle mark on her palm.

"Sorry. I was so nervous I forgot to dispose of the needles I removed from the patients," James said, holding a silver needle with feigned surprise. "I apologize for pricking you, Ms. Gonzalez. But since the X serum can detoxify, just get a shot. I'm really sorry."

James bowed to Isla, discarded the needle, and left the room.

Isla's face turned pale instantly.
