Chapter 46 Application Rejected

Seeing them, James was instantly stunned. Wasn't Lydia supposed to be at training? Why was she still here?

He took a few steps forward.

At that moment, Alice was holding her phone, shouting confidently, "Secretary Sanders, this is Lydia's mother, Alice Moore."

"Yes, Lydia Moore, the one who was supposed to report for duty today."

"I'm terribly sorry; we were so thrilled yesterday that we celebrated a bit too much and overslept."

James was speechless. Lydia had overslept on such a crucial day for her job opportunity, making him regret making that call.

"But you don't have to worry. If Lydia decides to come to Thousand Treasures Corporation, she definitely won't stand you up, you can be assured." Alice, not noticing James, continued arrogantly, "Yes, we're here, in the lobby. Come down to meet us."

"No need to go overboard with a welcome lunch; just a small gathering with some middle and senior managers will do."

"Alright, we'll wait here."

Alice hung up triumphantly, then turned to Lydia and said, "Don't worry; being three hours late is nothing."

"You're a rare talent; they wouldn't dare not hire you. If you went to a competitor, Thousand Treasures would go bankrupt."

"Secretary Sanders will be down soon."

The receptionist and security guards exchanged glances, both puzzled, wondering when the Clark family had such relatives.

Lydia nodded slightly. "When I meet Secretary Sanders, I'll ask him to bump up the salary. Three thousand dollars is a bit low."

Alice gave a thumbs up. "Exactly my thoughts. With your potential, it's only normal to ask for more."

James shook his head, thinking about having Taylor fire Lydia. But seeing the YC Sword on his wrist, James hesitated again.

Noticing someone shaking his head, Lydia instinctively looked over and was startled to see James. "James?"

"Why are you mentioning that loser?" Alice snapped impatiently, but her eyes widened when she spotted James. She said, "James?"

"Damn, how did he follow us here?"

The next second, her expression changed dramatically. "That bastard, he must be trying to ride on our coattails, then find a job at Thousand Treasures through us."

"We shouldn't have said publicly that you were hired by Thousand Treasures Corporation yesterday."

"Lydia, you sit. I'll go get rid of this loser."

Alice stood up and approached James, demanding, "James, what are you doing here? Did your mother-in-law send you?"

"I'm telling you, you are despicable, just thinking about mooching off Lydia."

She despised Addison for turning a blind eye when they were in need, yet allowed James to take advantage of Lydia's prospects.

"Get out," Alice nearly shouted, "We won't help you find a job here."

James didn't respond.

Lydia also stood up, raising her chin. "James, did you hear that? This isn't a place for you!"

She hated sharing good things with others.

James blocked her attempt to push him, his expression untroubled. For him now, some old matters and humiliations were just easily dismissed.

Seeing James deflect her, Lydia became furious and shouted to the receptionist and security, "Why aren't you throwing this riffraff out?"

James ignored Alice and Lydia, walked straight to the reception desk, and spoke calmly, "I'm here to see Taylor!"

The receptionist was taken aback. "Ms. Clark?"

Alice sneared, "Fantastic, you're here to see Ms. Clark. Just who do you think you are?"

"Even we don't have the privilege to meet Ms. Clark, and you, a nobody, how could you possibly?

Lydia also scoffed repeatedly, "Ridiculous."

At that moment, the receptionist looked at James mockingly. "Sir, Ms. Clark isn't someone you can just drop in on unannounced.. Did you make an appointment?"

"Tell Taylor my name is James," James spoke calmly, "Give her five minutes; if she doesn't come down, I'm leaving."

The receptionist smirked dismissively. "Sir, please don't cause trouble."

A few security guards approached menacingly.

James remained calm. "Four minutes left..."

Lydia mocked, "He is ordering Ms. Clark to come down; He is insane."

"Enough, James, stop putting on airs."

Alice looked down at James, saying, "I know you want to show off in front of us, but Ms. Clark really isn't someone you can reach."

"Just leave, don't embarrass yourself."

"And if you leave a bad impression on Ms. Clark, it could affect us too!"

"What will you do if our important opportunity is ruined because of you?"

She was convinced James had followed them and was using the meeting with Taylor to cover his embarrassment.

James looked at the receptionist and said calmly, "Three minutes left..."

Feeling James's imposing aura, the receptionist hesitated and eventually made a call.

"James, enough. Have you lost your mind? It's embarrassing." Alice was angry. "I'm ordering you to leave now."

Before she could finish her sentence, a crisp bell rang, and the elevator doors opened. The sound of shoes tapping on the floor approached rapidly.

Then, several men and women appeared, led by Taylor, dressed in Givenchy, stylish and professional.

However, her expression was urgent and flustered.

Alice and Lydia greeted her with smiles, "Mr. Clark."

Taylor ignored the welcoming crowd, scanning the lobby anxiously before spotting James and rushing over. "James, I'm sorry, I'm late."

Alice and Lydia were completely stunned.

Did James actually know Taylor?

How was that possible?

James looked at Taylor and smiled faintly. "Not bad, you've changed a lot. I thought you wouldn't come down."

Taylor suppressed her urge to kick James, then looked at Lydia and smiled. "James, is this the one you asked me to arrange a job for?"

Alice drew in a sharp breath, taken aback by the unexpected revelation that James had indeed pulled strings for her.

Lydia anxiously shouted, not wanting to believe it was James's help. "Mr. Clark, you hired me for my looks and abilities, right?"

She inherently disliked the idea of owing James.

The receptionists awkwardly looked at Lydia, wondering if she had any misconceptions about her attractiveness.

James said lightly, "Taylor, if she wants to rely on her abilities, give her the chance to do so."

After saying this, he walked straight into the elevator.

Taylor paused, then smiled at her secretary. "Secretary Sanders, Ms. Lydia is young, beautiful, and upright. Let's arrange it according to the rules."

Secretary Sanders stepped forward. "Ms. Lydia, Thousand Treasures Corporation only hires individuals with master's or doctoral degrees. Your associate degree does not meet our recruitment standards."

"I declare your application unsuccessful. You are not hired!"

Alice and Lydia's faces turned ashen...
