Chapter 330 She Can Come Over
When Addison was kicked away by James, Mary was standing under a tree in the backyard.
Her eyes were unfocused, strolling around in the distance.
Even though she'd known for a while that she was just another expendable cog in the TG Company machine, it still stung.
That place held her youth, her sweat, and the kindness James had once shown her—all of it gone now.
But Mary didn't hold it against James. She got it. Gregory and Jane had pushed things too far, and James had no choice but to beat them.
A gust of wind blew, the rustling of leaves and the dappled sunlight made Mary feel lonely, and she couldn't help but shiver.
Suddenly, Mary felt an extra piece of clothing on her, wrapping her thin and frail body.
Mary turned her head and saw that familiar, comforting face.
James gently tied the clothes, his voice soft, "It's cool in the backyard, you should wear more."
Mary's heart softened, and she responded with unprecedented compliance, "Got it."
James's eyelid twitched, a bit unaccustomed to Mary's gentleness, and then he softly asked, "Why didn't you tell me you got fired?"
Mary gently shook her head. "You are always busy, and you still have to see patients. Besides, I wanted to try to solve it myself."
"Don't worry about it," James comforted her, "Amanda and Jane are just temporarily smug. Soon, they'll be begging you to come back."
Amanda strongly supported Jane in dealing with Mary, then James wouldn't mind taking them on, especially since he still had to seek justice from Jane.
Regarding Samantha, Gregory's family was dead, but Jane hadn't paid enough of a price.
James cooed, "Ignore the company."
Mary glanced up at James, soaking in the comfort of his protection but also sensing he was a bit of an enigma.
For over twenty years, James had been just... average. Even in the past year, he'd been a total deadbeat—taking hits without fighting back, swallowing insults without a word, and shamelessly mooching off her for cash.
That guy had driven Mary to the edge of despair. But now, in just a few months, he'd transformed into some kind of martial arts and medicine prodigy—bold, dependable, like a completely different person.
But Mary was also comforted; this was how a man should be, and it was the kind of man she liked.
"It is also not bad to live such a life. I can sleep and wake up whenever I want, I can hang out, go shopping... In a word, I feel much more relaxed," Mary withdrew her gaze from James and smiled, "If I get really bored, I'll go to JZL Medical Clinic to bother you."
James smiled, "Mary, you're really getting more shameless."
Mary raised her eyebrows in mock anger. "Nonsense, dare to repeat?"
She even reached out to pinch James's waist.
James laughed and dodged, "You are indeed more shameless than before, but I won't mind it."
Mary didn't continue to play around with James but walked to a tree. "James, I'm still a bit cold."
James was slightly stunned. "My jacket is thin but windproof. How can you still be cold?"
Mary kicked James, "But I am cold."
Before she could finish speaking, Mary felt her body lighten as she was pulled forcefully.
The next second, she was wrapped in a warm embrace, feeling an indescribable sense of security.
All of Mary's worries and unhappiness disappeared at this moment, and she wished she could stay in his embrace forever.
James looked down at the woman and smiled, "And now?"
Mary blinked her beautiful eyes. "Does hugging me feel the same as hugging Olivia?"
James didn't foolishly respond but kissed her red lips.
"Bastard, how dare you kick me! I'll beat you to death!" At that moment, a thunderous roar came from behind them.
Addison, who had been kicked unconscious by James and had just woken up, was charging over with a broom.
James reluctantly left Mary's lips.
Mary also turned to look at the furious Addison, then blushed and pushed James away, "Did you just kick my mom?"
James admitted straightforwardly, "Addison went crazy, hit me and Melissa. I had to wake her up."
Mary pinched James, "Aren't you worried about hurting her?"
"No worries, I'm a doctor. If I hurt her, I'll treat her and then hit her again," James laughed, "I had no choice. I'm no match for Addison in a shouting match, so I had to help her calm down with a kick."
Addison charged over, even angrier when she saw the clothes on Mary, "Jerk! You kicked me and harassed Mary. I'll kill you!"
As Addison roared, she raised the broom to hit James.
James grabbed the broom and snapped it over his knee, throwing it to the ground.
James' force scared Addison into taking a few steps back, but then she angrily stepped forward again. "James, I know you're capable, but I just hate you. If you have the guts, kill me, or I will never let you be with Mary."
She doubled down, shamelessly egging him on. "Oh, you're so powerful, huh? Go ahead, do it! Kill me!"
James stepped closer, his voice cold. "Addison, are you out of your damn mind?"
Addison let out a bitter laugh. "Mary, listen to this jerk! He hits your mom, disrespects me—you can't be with him!"
She turned to James, her voice sharp. "Or I'll hang myself at the damn door and haunt you for the rest of your life!"
James took out a hundred dollars, "I'll pay for the rope."
"You..." Addison was so angry that her blood almost boiled, and the fury in her chest nearly consumed her.
"Mary, are you really gonna let this jerk push your mom around like this? I'm your mom, your real mom!" Addison looked at Mary with a pitiful expression. "You're not gonna ditch me for some outsider, are you?"
"Mom, cut it out," Mary said, her brow furrowed. "We're already in deep water, and you're still stirring up drama. You wanna make things even worse?"
Addison's eyelid twitched, and she restrained her anger a bit. "Of course not! I want us to get back on our feet, but James has to pay up—no, he's gotta make it right for you!"
She shot James a death glare and barked, "James, hand over Peach Blossom No. 1 to Mary. Now!"
She never forgot to get something back from James.
Mary's face darkened. "Mom, if you keep this up, I'll cut ties with you."
James had come to help Mary out of a tight spot, but Addison just saw it as a chance to cash in. Mary had had enough.
Addison snorted, "What? I'm your mom, I'm looking out for you! You think I'm scared to cut you off?"
Charles ran over, pulling Addison and scolding her, "Can't you calm down for a moment? Do you really want to drive the whole family away?"
Christopher showed up too, but he kept his distance.
Ever since his construction business went under, Christopher had been scraping by, draining his savings and putting up with Addison's constant snark.
That morning, Addison had barged into his room, forcing him to scrub the toilet for hours.
If he stepped in now, he'd probably catch a slap.
"Mary, Mary!" At that moment, Abigail ran over with a phone, excitedly shouting, "Amanda called you to go back to the company immediately!"
Mary and Addison were stunned. "Go back to the company? For what?"
James grabbed Mary's hand and said indifferently. "Tell her, Mary is not available. If she wants to see Mary, she can come over."
