Chapter 141 Addison Gets Arrested
James, though worried that Addison might be implicated by Alice, was busy with the clinic's renovation and patients. After reminding Mary a few times, he didn't say anything more.
The Smith Family didn't take this matter seriously, and James couldn't be bothered to deal with it.
Three days later, in the afternoon, James had just finished treating a few patients when his phone started vibrating.
As soon as he answered, he heard Mary's anxious voice.
"James, Mom's in trouble."
James was taken aback. "What happened?"
"She was arrested by the police. I don't know the details yet; I'm on my way home." Mary asked, "Where are you?"
James evaded the question. "I'm on my way home too. I'll be there soon. Don't worry, we'll talk when I get back."
After hanging up, James asked Daniel to treat the other patients and called a cab for himself.
Half an hour later, James arrived at the Smith Family villa just as Mary was getting out of her car.
They exchanged a glance without saying a word and hurried into the hall.
The atmosphere was heavy, with seven or eight people sitting inside.
Charles, Abigail, Christopher, a few Smith Family relatives, and Joseph, whose hair was neatly combed.
James saw Joseph and paused.
Mary's lips twitched. "Joseph, why are you here?"
"Mary, you're back?" Joseph's eyes lit up when he saw Mary. "I heard Auntie was in trouble, so I came to see if I could help."
Mary nodded in understanding and quickly walked over to Charles."Dad, Christopher , sister, what happened to Mom?"
She tried to keep her distance from Joseph.
Charles coughed repeatedly, his voice hoarse, unable to speak for a moment.
"Addison was arrested by the police."
Abigail, full of anxiety, spoke up, "Alice and Mom were working on VitaliCalm, and they started selling the first batch at the clinic a few days ago. An elderly lady named Charlotte Harris happened to pass by and took a box. After taking it, she started vomiting and then fainted. Her family couldn't get there in time, so they called the police, who arrested Mom and Auntie."
"The herbs and the factory were also shut down." Abigail recounted the events, "They said they would thoroughly investigate this matter."
"Poisoned?" Mary was very nervous and scared upon hearing this; the word was too foreign to her. "How could it be poisoned? Mom invested a lot of time and money into those pills."
James spoke up, "I warned you that the herbal ingredients had issues. Didn't you say you were going to get the pills tested?"
"I thought since Mom invested so much money, she wouldn't sell low-quality products, and Auntie wouldn't dig her own grave. Plus, I've been busy." Mary awkwardly explained. "I didn't pay attention to it temporarily. Who knew something would really happen?"
Charles also looked embarrassed. James had warned them a few days ago, but no one took it seriously.
"Alright, is this the time to shirk responsibility?" Christopher evaded the issue with a grunt, "The urgent matter is to get Mom out."
"Has there been a medical evaluation?" James didn't dwell on the issue, frowning. "Was the poisoning caused by Mom's pills or the patient's own condition?"
Christopher hesitated for a moment and said, "Several patients felt unwell, so it's likely the pills. The medical board is currently testing them."
"Christopher, you often work with the authorities. Can't you handle this?" Mary looked at Christopher and asked. "Even if you can't absolve Mom of responsibility right away, you could at least bail her out."
"The detention center is full of all sorts of people, and the environment is poor. Mom is old and can't endure the hardship," Mary added; she was very worried about Addison's suffering inside.
Hearing this, Charles pounded his chest. "I shouldn't have let her work with Alice. I shouldn't have."
"She can't be bailed out. If it were an ordinary patient, I could manage, but the patient is Mrs. Collins, Aaron Collins' mother." Christopher shook his head. "Aaron is watching this closely, and the patient was indeed poisoned. Who would dare to bail her out?"
Mary exclaimed, "The patient is Aaron's mother?"
James was also shocked, never expecting the situation to involve Aaron.
Addison was in big trouble.
"Yes, Mrs. Collins was in a good mood today, went out for a walk, and happened to come across CF Clinic selling pills, so she bought a box to try. Who knew it would turn into such a big issue." At this point, Charles sat up straight and briefly explained the situation. "Your mom and the others didn't know her identity. Otherwise, they wouldn't have sold it to her. Now that she's poisoned, Aaron is very angry and believes we harmed his mother. He not only called the police to arrest your mom but also had the medical board intervene in our clinic. Even Christopher's pleas were useless."
"If it weren't for Joseph's help, even the Smith Family members might have been taken in for questioning."
Saying this, he gratefully looked at Joseph, "Joseph, thank you. The Smith Family owes you a debt of gratitude. I'm really sorry."
"Uncle, no need to be so polite. We're old friends, like family. If I don't help you, who will?" Joseph said with a smile. "Don't worry about Auntie's situation. I'll go back and ask my dad to handle it. I'm sure we can get a favor from Aaron."
Christopher also slapped his forehead, saying, "Right, right, right, Joseph has the capability. Mr. Garcia is the chairman of Garcia Group, and Joseph's auntie was a former leader in the business community."
Christopher looked at Joseph. "Their words carry weight, much more than ours."
Charles grasped Joseph's hand, saying, "Joseph, we'll trouble you then."
Mary hesitated for a moment. "Joseph, thank you. If my mom gets out safely, the Smith Family will definitely thank you properly."
"Mary, don't worry. Your problem is my problem. No need to be so formal." Joseph's eyes sparkled. "After this is resolved, just treat me to a meal alone."
"No need for a meal, and we don't need your help." James interrupted Joseph without hesitation. "I'll get Mom out."
"Shut up!" Charles slammed the table and shouted, "This is not the time for a useless person like you to speak."
"If you were of any use, would this family be in such chaos?"
"If you had any ambition, would your mom have to work at her age? Would Mary have to work so hard?"
"I'm telling you, if you can't help, just shut up and don't embarrass us."
When it came to Addison, he completely lost his usual calm.
Christopher also chimed in, "Exactly, do you think knowing Jacob and the others will make Aaron give you face? Stop dreaming. When it comes to his mother, he won't give face to anyone under him."
He criticized James, "Not even Jacob's father would be of any use."
"Apologize to Joseph." Charles pointed a finger, full of anger.
This was a critical moment. If they weren't careful, Addison could end up in jail. If James offended Joseph now, wouldn't that be asking for trouble?
"Apologize?" James looked at Joseph and said coldly, "He's not worthy."
