Chapter 128 The Rivals Confronted Each Other
After leaving the hospital, James pushed Virgil toward the parking lot.
"Sorry, I didn't expect Harmony Care Hospital to be so heartless, leaving your dad in the ER unattended." Mary apologized to James. "If I had known, I would have driven an extra half hour to take him to Rosewood City Hospital."
"It's not your fault." James' tone softened unconsciously. "It's the hospital's fault, but it's all in the past now. My dad will be fine. I should really thank you."
If it weren't for Mary's help this time, he might have lost Virgil forever.
Mary asked, "How is your dad doing now?"
Although their relationship was at a low point, James' gratitude made Mary feel awkward, so she changed the subject.
"Do you want to take him to another hospital? How about my mom's clinic?" Mary looked worriedly at the unconscious Virgil in the wheelchair. "He seems to have lost a lot of blood. He should be treated as soon as possible."
James shook his head lightly. "There is no need. He's fine. He's no longer in danger. I'll take him back to the clinic later for observation."
Mary asked, "James, do you want to go to the police station to explain everything?"
Seeing that James had his own plan, Mary didn't insist. She glanced back at the hospital. "So Joel and the others don't accuse you of intentional injury."
She still hadn't gotten over Joel's broken limbs, which was even more shocking than James hitting Jonathan on the head.
After all, Joel was Andrew's nephew.
"Don't worry. I'll be fine." James' face showed no emotion. "But Stacy and this hospital will soon face a reckoning."
Mary asked again, "Was the person who called you just now Andrew?"
Standing next to James, she had heard the phone conversation and, combined with Joel's fear, deduced that Mr. Thompson was Andrew.
"Yes, it was Andrew." James didn't hide it. "I have some connections with him, so I had to give him a heads-up before dealing with his nephew."
Mary's eyes sparkled with curiosity. "How did you get to know Andrew?"
She was at a loss, unable to comprehend how her seemingly ordinary husband could be associated with Andrew, a man whose wealth was in the billions. She barely had the chance to meet Andrew, let alone establish any personal rapport with him.
Before James could offer any explanation, a motorhome roared into their vicinity, pulling up smoothly beside James and Mary.
As the car door opened, a woman of captivating elegance stepped out. Clad in a red trench coat and black sunglasses, she was the perfect blend of style and professionalism, radiating an undeniable aura of authority.
She leisurely removed her sunglasses, unveiling an enchantingly attractive face, sparking intrigue.
Immediately, she became the center of attention, drawing numerous curious and admiring gazes.
A real beauty.
Many people swallowed hard.
This beauty was none other than the infamous Olivia.
She was followed by several medical staff, all looking professional and experienced.
Olivia said, "Hurry, hurry, get my husband's father into the car for a proper check-up."
Ignoring Mary and the crowd's stares, Olivia quickly approached Virgil and instructed the medical staff.
It was clear she already knew the whole story.
Before James could stop them, the medical staff efficiently lifted the wheelchair and carefully placed it inside the RV.
James then noticed that the RV had a hospital logo and was equipped with several medical devices, making it a mobile mini-hospital.
It was a hundred times more advanced than a regular ambulance.
"Fate really is on our side." Olivia smiled at James. "We were worried about his life just a few days ago, and now he's here in front of us."
James looked a bit embarrassed and then nodded to Mary. "It's all thanks to Mary finding my dad, or the consequences would have been unimaginable."
Olivia said, "Oh, Mrs. Smith, I'm sorry. I was so focused on my husband's father that I didn't notice you. My apologies."
Olivia handed her sunglasses to James and then extended her hand to Mary. "Thank you for bringing my husband's father to the hospital. We will definitely repay your great kindness."
Olivia was very generous. "If you need anything, just tell me. We'll do our best to fulfill it."
Mary's pretty face turned cold instantly. "Miss Lee, please behave yourself," she said. "Being a mistress is uncivilized, and it's not appropriate to make assumptions."
James suddenly felt helpless.
"Mistress?"
Olivia chuckled softly. "Aren't you planning to divorce James?"
Mary felt a pang of discomfort. "Whether we divorce or not is none of your business, but as long as we haven't signed the papers, you'd better stay away."
Olivia's smile was playful. "Mrs. Smith, why hold on out of spite? If you don't like him, just let go. It's better for both you and James."
Mary retorted, "I don't need your advice on how to handle my affairs, and you have no right to interfere in my and James' matters."
Seeing Olivia's confident attitude towards James, Mary felt a deep bitterness.
It wasn't just the resentment of having her relationship intruded upon but also an indescribable disappointment in James.
She kept wondering how James could intimidate Thomas, how he knew Andrew, and why he dared to be so arrogant about divorcing her.
Seeing Olivia's attitude towards James, all her questions were answered.
It turned out that the photos Joseph had taken were not baseless.
They did have an ambiguous relationship.
James' current strength and success were all due to Olivia's support and influence.
Mary thought to herself, 'What on earth is happening? Is he living off a woman again? Before it was me, now it's Olivia?'
Mary looked at James with disappointment.
James knew what she was thinking and didn't argue, just smiled faintly and accepted it calmly.
"Mrs. Smith, you're right." As Mary was lost in thought, Olivia smiled softly. "But I'm not an outsider. I'm James' family."
"Alright, stop arguing." James interrupted their confrontation. "Miss Lee, after you finish the check-up, take my dad to the clinic. It's easier for me to take care of him there."
James said, "Mary, it's getting late. I'll take you back to the Smith Family villa."
Mary had helped a lot today, so James had to show some courtesy.
"No need, I'll go back myself. You can continue relying on others." Mary refused James bluntly, gave Olivia a final glance, then got into her red BMW and drove off.
Watching the car disappear, Olivia smiled.
She thought to herself, 'Mary is so childish and ridiculous. Who does James need to rely on? A man like him, with unparalleled medical skills and powerful connections, will eventually stand at the top of the pyramid. He doesn't need to rely on anyone.'
Olivia called out, "Mary, you'll regret this sooner or later."
