Chapter 108 Moving the Car Was Not Allowed
James smiled, and his annoyance instantly vanished.
The Smith family always managed to irritate him, but Olivia was the complete opposite. Her gentleness could make James forget all his worries.
James got in and asked, "What brings you here?"
Today, Olivia was wearing a black silk romper. Her neck was long and fair, and she had a great figure.
The romper's hem barely reached mid-thigh, revealing a section of smooth, white legs, alluring one to see more.
Olivia exuded a lazy, seductive aura that made James involuntarily take a deep breath. She was truly captivating!
"A lot of people wanted to come pick you up." Olivia smiled, "SH Corporation, Hundred Flowers Bank, Thousand Treasures Corporation, the Miller brothers, but they were worried that so many people showing up together might be conspicuous. So they finally sent me to clear away the bad luck for you."
James gave a wry smile. "Thank them for me, and sorry for the trouble."
He was a smart man and knew that the TranquilTea Haven case this morning could have gone either way for him. If it went badly, he could end up in jail for a long time. If it went well, he could walk away unscathed.
Now, he walked out of the police station safe and sound, with Brian taking all the blame, it was clear that Raymond and Scott had worked things out.
"You know you're causing trouble, right?" Olivia reached out and stroked James's face. "Is it worth risking jail for a woman who doesn't care about you, taking down two families in the process?"
James tilted his head slightly. "I don't know if it's worth it. It's just that Mary and I aren't divorced yet. If something happens to her, I can't just sit by and do nothing."
Olivia pressed further. "The Smith family is so unfriendly to you, and your wife has no feelings for you. Don't you plan to get a divorce?"
James said, "I want a divorce, but unfortunately, being a live-in son-in-law is worse than being a dog."
James didn't hide anything, "I signed an agreement back then. I get $1500 a month for three years, but I don't have the right to initiate a divorce. Only if Mary asks for a divorce can I get one unconditionally. I don't have the right to end the agreement. To leave the Smith family, I have to meet Mary's conditions."
Olivia asked curiously, "Hasn't Mary asked for a divorce this year?"
"She has. She and the Smith family ask for a divorce almost every month." James smiled awkwardly. "But I shamelessly stayed. At that time, my mom was seriously ill, and I needed the $1500 every month."
"I thought about leaving with some dignity, but I had to take time every day to care for my mom, so I couldn't work to pay for her medical bills. And I had to deal with loan sharks." Thinking about those dark days, James felt like it was a lifetime ago. The suffering seemed distant, but the memories were still painful.
Olivia said, "I'm sorry."
Sensing James's emotions, Olivia's pretty face dimmed slightly. She reached out and held James's hand. "I shouldn't have brought it up."
Olivia's hand was warm, soft, and smooth.
James felt a wave of emotion, then smiled. "It's okay. It's all in the past."
He tried to pull his hand back, but Olivia interlocked her fingers with his, refusing to let go.
Olivia held James's hand tightly. "Is Mary not asking for a divorce now?"
"She will eventually." James squinted his eyes. "Mary and I are from two different worlds." Charles and Addison's disappointment and Mary's deep-seated contempt made James realize they would eventually part ways.
Mary hadn't asked for a divorce yet, but she was just holding back her dissatisfaction.
"Did Mary set any conditions?" Olivia stepped on the gas and changed lanes to the fast lane. She hoped James would regain his freedom soon.
"Yes, she did." James smiled. "But it's too difficult for me right now."
Olivia laughed. "Difficult? Does she want you to pluck stars from the sky for her?"
James stretched and leaned back in the seat. "She wants me to restart Summit Villa and restore the Smith family's glory."
Olivia's foot slipped on the gas pedal, slowing the car down for a moment before returning to normal speed.
Her pretty face had turned cold at some point.
Olivia said, "Restart Summit Villa? What a big demand. Even Aaron and the others don't dare to take on that project. How can she expect you to restore the Smith family's glory? She's sending you to your death!"
She poked James's chest with her finger. "Don't listen to her and get involved in this. Don't even think about restarting Summit Villa. Otherwise, you'll die a miserable death." Olivia glared at James, her anger mixed with concern and affection.
James was taken aback, then asked, "I don't know much about Summit Villa. I only know it's an unfinished project. Is there more to it?"
"I'm not gonna tell you." Olivia snorted. "Just don't mess with it. The situation is very complicated. No one in Rosewood City dares to get involved."
Just as James's curiosity grew, there was a loud crash ahead.
A car had collided with a large RV coming from a side road.
The glass shattered, sparks flying, and the vehicles behind collided in succession. The continuous thud of impact filled the air, instantly throwing the road into chaos.
Several cars were heading straight for Olivia and James.
James shouted, "Watch out."
James turned Olivia's steering wheel, helping her avoid several out-of-control cars, then stepped on the brake.
The Ferrari stopped in the emergency lane, unscathed, but Olivia's face was flushed.
James's left leg not only pinned down the brake and her skirt but also brought her a surge of intense heat.
James said, "Something's happened. I'll go check it out."
James didn't notice the awkwardness and quickly pulled his leg back before getting out of the car.
Olivia hurriedly followed him.
Soon, James and Olivia reached the most severely damaged area.
The front of a car was almost crushed, half of it stuck under the RV. A young woman lay in the driver's seat, bleeding and unconscious.
Amid the wreckage, gasoline was still leaking, and the smell was getting stronger.
Beside the RV, several elegantly dressed men and women were standing. Among them, a man named Nathaniel, who, with his distinguished nose, was calmly engaged in a phone conversation, appearing utterly relaxed and at ease.
His companions were also chatting and laughing, not taking the accident seriously at all. "Hey, gasoline is leaking, and there's an injured person in the car." James shouted at them, "Move the RV quickly, or someone could die."
"Get lost, mind your own business." Nathaniel hung up the phone and pointed at James, shouting, "Wait for the police to handle it."
His companions also looked at James mockingly.
"Quick, move the RV. Otherwise, if the car catches fire, the injured person will be in danger." James ran to the car, smelling the increasingly strong gasoline. He tried to pull the deformed door open, but failed.
Only by moving the RV to expose the windshield could James get in and rescue the person. James shouted again, "Move it quickly, it's going to catch fire, and people will die."
"Why should I care if they die?" Nathaniel pointed at James and cursed, "You tampered with the scene and disrupted the responsibility division. I'll kill you."
Before he could finish, James stepped forward and slapped him, sending him flying.
