Chapter 63 Not a Penny More
James and Olivia looked up to see an old man with a goatee emerging. His face was covered in whiskers, his expression weary, and he exuded a sense of desolation though his eyes still sparkled with a glimmer of light.
"This is Mr. Bradley," Olivia introduced to James, then turned to Bradley with a smile, "Mr. Bradley, this is my brother, James."
Bradley didn't even lift an eyelid. "This JZL Medical Hall, 15.5 million dollars."
James squinted his eyes. He thought, '15.5 million dollars?'
A cold edge appeared on Olivia's pretty face. "Mr. Bradley, didn't you say 6.2 million dollars yesterday? Why is it 15.5 million dollars now? This JZL Medical Hall is worth only 7.75 million dollars and would take three to five months to sell. But if you need money urgently, 6.2 million dollars is already a good price. Raising the price like this is really evil."
She had a strong dislike for greedy people.
"6.2 million dollars was yesterday's price. 15.5 million dollars is today's price. JZL Medical Hall is mine. I can sell it for whatever price I want. It's none of your business." Bradley remained cold. "If you don't want to pay, fine. If you can cure Kelsey, I'll give you JZL Medical Hall for free."
As he retorted to Olivia, he took Avery's pulse. Avery coughed occasionally, breathing with her mouth open, looking very uncomfortable.
Olivia's voice took on a cold edge. "Even the hospital said there's no cure. Expecting James to heal your granddaughter is an overreach. It's rediculous."
Avery also looked at Bradley in surprise, feeling as if he had suddenly become a different person.
"Stop talking nonsense. Either pay up or cure her." Bradley was very impatient. "Or get out."
Olivia was almost furious. "You!"
"Olivia, don't be angry," James said, a gentle smile on his face. "Mr. Bradley perceives me as youthful and perhaps doubts my medical competence. He worries that if I take over this place, I might end up doing more harm than good. So he sets a high price, $15.5 million, to deter me. But if I can cure his granddaughter, it would demonstrate the quality of my medical skills, and he won't worry about handing over JZL Medical Hall to me. On the surface, Mr. Bradley appears to be driven by money, but deep down, he has a benevolent heart."
Olivia was taken aback by his words, then seemed thoughtful. A dozen patients also nodded in sudden realization.
"James, you have a knack for reading people, but unfortunately, being invincible with words means nothing without real skills," Bradley snorted at James. "You'd better leave quickly and stop hindering me from treating patients."
He removed his fingers from Avery's pulse and then picked up a pen to prescribe medicine.
"If I'm not mistaken," James suddenly said. "You diagnosed her with typhoid fever."
Bradley's actions stopped instantly, looking at James in disbelief. This young man hadn't even examined the patient, yet he could speak so accurately. He stroked his goatee. "You have some skill. No wonder you dare to manage JZL Medical Hall. But it's still not enough."
Olivia's eyes lit up. Bradley's words indicated that James's guess was correct.
James looked at Bradley and said, "You prescribed medicine to be taken three times a day for seven days, right?"
As soon as these words were spoken, Bradley was somewhat surprised. James was right about everything. A dozen patients, seeing Bradley's expression, understood that James's guess was correct and became curious about James's identity. Who was this young man with such high medical skills?
Bradley nodded. "I misjudged you."
He then handed the prescription to Avery and took the pulse of another patient, Darrell. Darrell, who appeared to be in his eighties, had disheveled white hair, gaunt features, and sunken eyes. He was sweating and clutched his abdomen tightly with his left hand.
Three minutes later, Bradley looked up and said to James, "Come, see what's wrong with Darrell."
He also prescribed one go.
James smiled faintly and also diagnosed the condition.
James replied, "He has damp heat in the spleen. The medicine you prescribed is just for treating the spleen."
James recited Bradley's diagnosis in one breath, even detailing the dosage of his prescription.
Olivia and several patients leaned in to examine the prescription, and they found that James's words were spot on.
Seeing the shocked expressions on Bradley and Olivia's faces, the other patients knew that James was right again.
"This young man is truly impressive. He saw through Doctor Knoll's diagnosis completely."
"Yes, he even knows the medication. It's really amazing."
Hearing the discussions, Bradley wasn't angry; instead, he showed a hint of admiration. "James, I must admit, you are indeed remarkable."
James maintained his calm smile. "Your prescription is on point, but it won't be enough to cure Darrell's condition," he said gently.
Bradley was taken aback, then snorted. "Then tell me, what prescription would cure his illness?"
He acknowledged James's skill but didn't accept being questioned. Though his reputation wasn't as high as Mark's, he was still one of the top doctors in Rosewood City.
James smiled faintly. "Your prescription can indeed treat Darrell's damp-heat in the spleen, but you overlooked his constipation issue."
"The residues from the medication, if not expelled, will just accumulate in the abdomen, treating the symptoms but not the root cause. So, you should add a laxative to the prescription!"
Bradley's body shook, and then he sighed deeply. "I concede."
"Young doctor, could you treat my cervical spine issue?" Before Bradley could express his admiration, Scarlett Anderson interjected, stepping forward with an earnest expression on her face. "I've been troubled by it for years, almost needing to visit every week."
James responded with confidence, "That's easy."
James walked directly behind Scarlett and used a massage technique to treat her cervical spine on the spot. There was a series of cracking sounds, and Scarlett kept screaming, but after three minutes, she was overjoyed.
She felt a warm flow in her previously painful cervical spine.
When James stopped, she exclaimed, "I'm relieved. I haven't felt this free in years."
"It's only half cured. Your cervical spine has been damaged for years and still needs some medication." James prescribed Scarlett. "In a month, it will be completely fine."
Scarlett was overjoyed. "Thank you, doctor. Thank you."
"Young doctor, can you treat my earache?"
"My stomach cramps every few days. Can you take a look?"
"Doctor, I've been having nosebleeds that won't stop. Can you help?"
A dozen patients surrounded James, pulling him towards them. Bradley was momentarily left aside.
James diagnosed quickly and saw all the patients in no time. He accurately identified the causes and symptoms for each one, using needles, massage, or medication, leaving every patient satisfied.
Word spread quickly, and soon, dozens more patients came to JZL Medical Hall. James handled them with ease.
During this time, Bradley watched and listened, his expression growing more solemn and shocked.
These were all old neighbors whose conditions he was well aware of, so he was genuinely amazed by James's confident diagnoses.
When James cured several stubborn illnesses and used similar methods to treat patients, Bradley was completely convinced of James's skills.
Moreover, the bustling scene was something Bradley had only seen in his childhood memories.
It had lingered in his dreams for many years, and seeing it again today made Bradley want to cry.
He trembled with his goatee, voluntarily acting as James's assistant, reopening the pharmacy to prepare and dispense medicine and serving tea and water.
"You are truly amazing. Please accept my bow." After all the patients were seen, Bradley stood up and bowed respectfully to James. "Your talent far surpasses mine. It is a blessing for people that JZL Medical Hall will be in your charge."
Bradley's greatest regret in life was his youthful arrogance and the missed opportunity to learn medicine thoroughly from his grandfather and father, leading to his current lack of mastery. As he faced patients and his granddaughter, whom he couldn't help, waves of guilt washed over him time and again. Now, witnessing the skill and confidence of a doctor like James, he couldn't help but feel a deep, sincere admiration.
Bradley said, "This building, you can have it for 2.33 million dollars."
2.17 million dollars for curing Kelsy, 155,000 dollars for living expenses.
Olivia was overjoyed, not expecting to save 13.2 million dollars in an instant.
James helped Bradley up and said, "I don't want to pay a single penny."
The room fell silent instantly.
James then smiled. "I want to see Kelsey."
