Chapter 87 The Unseeing Ones
After Jacob and his group left, James approached Raymond with a smile and said, "Raymond, thank you for tonight."
He expressed his gratitude to Raymond. "If it were not for you, I would have had quite a bit of trouble."
"What are you thanking me for?" Raymond burst into laughter. "You once saved my life. Besides, you wouldn't have been the one in trouble even if I hadn't shown up tonight. I just added a touch of flair to the situation."
His ability to read people was exceptional. If James couldn't handled the situation earlier, Jacob wouldn't have shown him such deep respect.
Taylor lifted her pretty face and tugged at James's clothes. "Me, me, me, you should thank me. I saved you with my dart just now."
"Alright, thank you," James smiled. "I'll give you an extra half-month off."
"Jerk," Taylor muttered, "I thought you'd cancel our bet."
"Keep dreaming." James then looked at Raymond and smiled. "Mr. Clark, have you been feeling any different lately?"
Raymond replied, "Thanks to your miraculous hands, my health is improving day by day and is almost back to normal."
At the mention of his health condition, Raymond's expression brightened. "Even my old rheumatism and kidney stones are gone. Taylor's chronic illness is also cured. I've always wanted to invite you for a drink to thank you for your kindness properly. But Olivia said you were busy renovating the clinic, so I didn't want to disturb you. I planned to support you when you settle down. I didn't expect to run into you tonight. Regardless of how I feel, I wanted you to take a look."
As he spoke, Raymond extended his hand to James. "I want to make sure I've fully recovered."
Taylor's gaze softened a bit. Although she was still annoyed about the bet, she had to admit that James's medical skills were exceptional.
"Okay, let me check," James said, smiling. Soon, a flicker of surprise crossed his eyes.
James said, "Overall, you are in good condition, but you're dealing with slightly high blood pressure, throat inflammation, and an upset stomach. But it's nothing to worry about. I'll send over a prescription for you later. After taking the medication for about two weeks, you should be back to normal."
Raymond's blood pressure was notably higher than average. Given that he had just recovered from a severe illness, he should have been feeling more at ease, so this wasn't the expected outcome. Nonetheless, James didn't view it as a significant issue.
Raymond smiled at his words. "Then I can be assured."
"What about me? What about me?" Taylor eagerly extended his hand. "Quick, help me check my health."
James smiled and began to frown slightly. "Odd, your leg seems fine, but there's inflammation in your tonsils, and excessive heat in your liver."
James asked, "Have you been consuming too much spicy food? Or perhaps burning the midnight oil too often?"
Taylor was slightly taken aback and replied, "No, we eat very bland food and don't stay up late."
James frowned, feeling that something was off.
Raymond asked, "James, is there something wrong with our bodies?"
James chuckled lightly. "It's nothing serious. A bit of medication should resolve it."
Just as Raymond was about to say something more, Taylor's phone vibrated. After a brief conversation, she turned to Raymond. "Grandpa, they're here."
Raymond nodded and then clasped James's hands. "James, are you free tonight?"
James was taken aback and asked, "Mr. Clark, was something off?"
"I'm meeting a friend tonight, and it might be a bit risky." Raymond laughed. "I want you to stay by my side. Of course, I won't let anyone harm you."
Having the miraculous James around was like having an extra half-life. Experienced people always knew how to minimize risks.
James nodded. "I happen to be free. I can go with you, Mr. Clark, to see what's going on."
Raymond had helped him a lot, and it wouldn't be right not to assist him now.
"Sorry for the trouble, James. Whether or not we need your medical skills tonight, I'll still pay you a consultation fee," Raymond said, patting James on the shoulder before leading him toward the elevator.
Taylor playfully slapped James on the back and then ran off with a mischievous grin.
At the elevator, a team was already standing guard. At the forefront were three women in green attire, with graceful figures and pretty faces, but their expressions were haughty.
The woman with long hair in the middle was especially arrogant. Standing among the group, she looked disdainfully at the guards, as if none of them were worthy of her attention.
Only when she saw Raymond and Taylor did she slightly temper her superior attitude.
"Come on, James, let me introduce you. This is Claire Moore, Taylor's senior," Raymond said enthusiastically, introducing the women in green to James. "A martial arts expert of the younger generation from the Mystic Alliance."
With a swing of her fist, Taylor added, "My senior sister is formidable."
"Miss Moore, this is James," Raymond introduced, turning towards James. "He has a deep understanding of both medicine and occultism. If you're ever feeling unwell, he'd be the one to consult."
James politely nodded to Claire. Although he didn't like Claire's arrogance, he couldn't show a sour face when Raymond was promoting his business. After all, he couldn't afford to turn down potential income. Moreover, he was a bit surprised to encounter a member of the Mystic Alliance here, a disciple of Richard.
"A doctor?" Claire sneered, "Mr. Clark, you must be joking. He's so young. What could he possibly know about medicine?"
Raymond smiled wryly and quickly tried to ease the tension. "Miss Madelyn, don't underestimate James. Recently, Taylor and I fell seriously ill, and no hospital could help us. It was James who treated us, and we recovered without any danger."
He didn't have much feeling for Claire, but since Taylor had hired them as bodyguards, Raymond had to show some respect.
Upon seeing Raymond's high regard for James, Claire raised an eyebrow. "Even if he's the most skilled doctor, what good will he be tonight?"
Raymond laughed heartily. "It's always good to have a doctor nearby, just in case."
At the same time, he shot James an apologetic look, signaling him not to take Claire's words to heart.
"With the three of us here and the Mystic Alliance's reputation, there won't be any danger," Claire said, clearly displeased with James's importance to Raymond. "I think he should leave so he doesn't become a burden if something happens."
James frowned and was about to lose his temper when Raymond waved his hand. "Alright, Miss Madelyn, it's about time. Let's go up."
To Raymond, James's importance outweighed Claire's.
James held back the kick he was about to deliver.
Seeing Raymond's attitude, Claire had no choice but to restrain herself, though she still snorted at James.
"We'll handle this matter. It's best if you don't act impulsively later on. Follow our arrangements," Claire said. "Don't worry. Mr. Clark and Miss. Clark will be fine with us here. You can just watch from the side."
James responded with a light smile, "As long as Raymond and Taylor are safe, I will not intervene."
The three girls didn't get angry this time. Instead, their faces were filled with indifference and teasing.
A little doctor dared to meddle in settling scores? Nonsense.
