Chapter 52 Who Was More Arrogant

Without pausing, James delivered another kick, sending Douglas flying several feet away.

Douglas spat out a mouthful of blood.

Mary was stunned, then quickly grabbed James, pleading, "James, don't be rash!"

Douglas roared, "Who are you?"

"I should be asking you theb question." James landed another kick. "How dare you treat my wife like this?"

"Your wife?" Douglas was initially shocked, then furiously exclaimed, "You're that live-in loser? You dare hit me. I'll kill you."

"You can challenge me, but you're bullying my woman," James responded with a slap. "It's not acceptable!"

Douglas fell to the ground, writhing in pain.

"James, James, that's enough. Don't hit him anymore." Mary clung to James. "Stop, or you'll be in trouble."

Yet, deep down, she felt a sweet sense of satisfaction. Was this a rage for her honor?

Douglas shouted, "You're done, James!" Douglas jabbed a finger at James, his voice a low growl. "I'm calling the cops, and you'll be behind bars before you know it. And Mary? She'll pay dearly. I'll make sure she's blacklisted by every bank out there. She won't be able to borrow a dime. She's in for fifty million with those high-interest loans, and the payment is due next month. Without a bank loan, her company is going under, and she'll be at the mercy of those loan sharks. If you care about her safety and the survival of her company, get on your knees and beg. And Mary will have to stay with Keith and me for three."

Douglas screamed hysterically, "Otherwise, you will be done for."

James didn't waste words and delivered another heavy slap,

Douglas screamed as blood trickled from the corner of his mouth.

"You can try," James sneered coldly.

"Fine, you just wait." Douglas, holding his face, said, "I'll make you pay for this. I swear!"

Then, he picked up the phone and spoke a few words.

Soon after, a tall woman in uniform arrived with five or six men and women.

Her badge read Branch Manager, Piper Phillips.

Piper demanded, "What's going on?"

Douglas, still holding his face, played the victim to Piper. "Manager, Mary's loan conditions were inadequate. I refused the loan, and she and her husband caused a scene here. I tried to explain, and they slapped me and threatened to kill me if I dared to blacklist her."

He twisted the story completely.

Mary urgently cried out, "Manager, that's not how it happened..."

"You've been blacklisted." Piper completely ignored Mary's explanation and pointed at Mary and James. "Call the police, arrest them."

High and mighty.

Colluding in their villainy.

With those words, Mary's face turned deathly pale.

She hadn't expected things to escalate to this point.

TG Company was already struggling financially, and this was the final nail in the coffin. How would she explain this to her father?

"This is what it takes to offend me," Douglas sneered, wiping the blood off his face. He looked at James with a triumphant smirk. "You thought you were so tough, didn't you? Let's see how tough you are now."

James responded without hesitation, satisfying him with another slap.

Douglas screamed and staggered back, leaning on Piper to avoid falling.

"This is absolutely outrageous, a complete disregard for the law," Piper's expression hardened. "Call the police and send out a notice to all our colleagues. Mary is now on our blacklist."

Just then, James also coldly looked at Piper and Douglas.

"You're blacklisted by me too." James said calmly, "You won't last in the banking system anymore."

Douglas looked disdainful.

Mary was also stunned at this moment, unsure of what James was playing at.

Douglas said, "Blacklisted by you? Not fit for the banking system? What are you? Have you lost your mind?"

Several attractive staff members scoffed disdainfully.

Douglas sneered. "I've been in banking for years, and I've never seen anyone so full of hot air."

Piper's high heels clicked on the floor, her face mocking as she looked at James. "Are you saying you want to fire us?"

James replied, "That's right, you're fired."

James was firm, not sounding like he was joking at all.

Douglas and others looked at James as if he were a lunatic.

A live-in son-in-law, a nobody, claiming he could fire a branch manager and a director? Absurd.

Piper and others had never seen such arrogance in their years in the banking system.

Mary looked embarrassed.

"Go ahead then, fire me." Piper crossed her arms, her demeanor casual but her eyes challenging.

Just then, the bank doors were pushed open, and a group of elegantly dressed men and women entered.

Leading them was a middle-aged man in a business suit.

His presence was commanding.

He was none other than Patrick Sanders!

The junior owner of Hundred Flowers Bank.

Piper and others turned around, their faces lighting up with enthusiasm as they greeted him. "Mr. Sanders!"

Hundred Flowers Bank was a joint-stock bank, and the Sanders family owned eighty percent of the shares. A word from them could determine many fates.

Seeing Patrick Sanders at the branch, Phillips and others were both excited and somewhat panicked.

They never expected Patrick Sanders to visit this small branch.

Piper asked, "Mr. Sanders, how unexpected it was for you to be here!"

Piper and Douglas flashed their brightest smiles, extending their hands to shake hands with Patrick Sanders.

However, Patrick paid them no mind.

He walked straight up to James, grasping James's hand firmly. "James, I owe you an apology for yesterday."

The room fell into a deafening silence, so quiet that one could hear a pin drop.

Many turned their incredulous gazes towards James, who seemed completely at ease.

A few young women covered their mouths, their eyes wide in disbelief.

Piper stood there as if she had been petrified, completely stunned.

Douglas looked as if he had been struck dumb.

What on earth was happening?

Piper and Douglas had no idea that James knew Patrick Sanders.

Nor did they expect Patrick to show such respect to James.

Had they really offended someone untouchable?

James spoke calmly, "Good to see you, Mr. Sanders."

Patrick asked, "James, what's going on here?"

Patrick didn't immediately address the matter of seeking medical help but instead scanned the surroundings with a sharp eye, sensing something was amiss.

Piper and Douglas waved their hands frantically. "It's nothing."

"He insulted my woman, even tried to force her into prostitution, and she, she's blacklisting us without any hesitation!" James pointed at Douglas, summarizing the situation briefly. A year of living as a son-in-law with his wife's family's had taught James that any sign of compromise or retreat would only embolden his adversaries. As a result, he chose to take an uncompromising stance, ensuring that no offense went unanswered.

Douglas, gathering his courage, stepped forward and addressed Patrick, "Mr. Sanders, there's been a misunderstanding."

Patrick shouted, "Shut up!"

Before Douglas could finish his sentence, Patrick cut him off abruptly, turning to James rudely. "James, I apologize. I failed to manage my employees effectively. It's my fault, my mistake. It's entirely up to you how to deal with them. I won't object."

The bank staff, who had been gleefully anticipating James's downfall, were taken aback by this unexpected turn of events.

James's tone was mild as he responded, "Mr. Sanders, they're your people. You handle it."

His nonchalant statement, however, sealed a grim fate for Douglas.

Patrick's gaze hardened as he turned to look at Phillips and the others.

Piper and Douglas were so nervous they were on the verge of collapsing.

Patrick barked, "Stand up straight!"

Without wasting another word, Patrick stepped forward and, with a swift kick, broke both of their legs.

He then proceeded to slap them back and forth.

The final slap landed on Piper's face, drawing blood. Patrick roared, "Get out! You're fired!"
