Chapter 187 Something Happened to Mary

After Nathaniel and the others were taken away by the ambulance, James performed acupuncture on Bruce.

After the session, Bruce felt a lot better, but he wasn't fully healed yet. There were still some lingering issues.

James told him he needed to visit JZL Medical Clinic once a month. After twelve months of acupuncture, Bruce would be completely cured.

Bruce didn't doubt him at all and was super grateful. As long as he didn't have to spend his life in a wheelchair, monthly treatments were no big deal.

He even gave James $14 million as a consultation fee, hoping the money would ensure James' genuine care.

James understood Bruce's intentions but didn't refuse. Bruce's life was worth $14 million.

James also prepared ten doses of medicine for Bruce to take back for Mia. After taking them, Mia's body would have a chance to recover.

This made Bruce ecstatic, and he let go of his last bit of resentment, feeling only gratitude towards James.

Jared and Stephen watched in awe. Not only had he resolved the conflict and extracted a hefty $14 million from Bruce, but he had also managed to put the father and daughter in his debt for a significant favor.

Unfazed by the spectators, James calmly enjoyed a pack of instant noodles before resuming his duties with patients. As dusk approached, he also took time to check on Virgil.

Virgil's body was slowly recovering, and his wounds were almost invisible, but he still couldn't wake up.

James infused his Life Gem with white light several times, which only improved Virgil's coma but couldn't wake him up immediately.

This consumed more white light than directly saving a person. James silently marveled at Virgil's strong self-protective consciousness.

With no other choice, James continued to treat his patients, hoping to gather enough white energy to awaken his father as soon as possible.

While James was busy, Mary walked into Glory Bar.

The bar was bustling, and on stage, a bunny girl was dancing passionately, making a group of customers dance wildly.

Mary scanned the crowd, feeling a vague sense of familiarity with someone, but couldn't quite place them. Then, she headed toward a corner booth on the east side.

Today's Mary was as cold and beautiful as ever, but there was a hint of sadness and slight annoyance in her eyes.

Her strong aura kept many admirers at bay and even made the bunny girl on stage hesitate for a moment.

"Mary, Mary."

Emily, dressed in black, stood up from the east corner and waved at Mary with a big smile. "I'm over here."

Mary walked over and sat down in the booth. "Emily, what do you want?"

After divorcing James, she had cut off contact with the Garcia siblings and even blocked Joseph, severing ties with all the clients he had introduced.

Thinking about how Joseph had taken credit for Vocal Vista and rescuing her mother, Mary was completely disappointed in him and vowed never to associate with him again.

Addison tried to explain that it was because of deep love, but Mary scoffed at this. To her, Joseph had a terrible character.

He was also indirectly responsible for her and James' breakup, so Mary was almost completely estranged from Joseph.

If it weren't for Emily's persistent requests, Mary wouldn't have come to see her tonight.

"Can't I just want to see you?" Emily smiled sweetly and sat down next to Mary, "We're good friends. Do you have to be so distant?"

Mary's tone was cold. "If there's nothing important, I'll go home. I have a few clients to meet tomorrow."

"Mary, what's going on with you?" Emily looked helpless. "I know my brother has caused you a lot of trouble, making you not want to see him now.

"But he only did those foolish things because he loves you so much. I've already given him a good scolding, and he won't act out again.

"Please give him a chance. Don't hate him and avoid him anymore.

"Mary, I'm begging you."

"I don't hate him or avoid him; I just don't see the need to stay in touch." Mary let out a long sigh. "So he doesn't need to apologize or make amends."

Her pretty face showed a trace of sadness. She thought, 'If I had cut ties with Joseph earlier, would James not have divorced me?'

"You're still hating him," Emily said, looking helpless. "You not only dropped the clients he introduced, but you also kept refusing my invitations. I guess in your heart, you even hate me now."

As she spoke, she picked up a cup and slowly poured half a glass of wine.

"No, you are you, and your brother is your brother," Mary said, trying to be polite. "Alright, let's not talk about this anymore. Go back and tell Joseph that I don't hate him, and he doesn't need to make amends."

"Of course, he should also stop bothering me in the future."

She added a reminder, "And don't go to the Smith Family to find my parents."

"Mary, you're really heartless. Fine, I'll pass on the message," Emily said, her pretty face conflicted. She then pushed the half glass of wine toward Mary.

Mary frowned and, out of politeness, declined, "I don't drink."

After the Vocal Vista incident, she tried not to drink outside. If she had to drink, it would be with a few trusted friends or acquaintances.

"This is quite the insult," Emily snapped, glaring at Mary. "And you're telling me you're not mad?"

She raised her own glass.

Mary's eyes dimmed, and she struggled internally before finally picking up the glass, lightly clinking it with Emily's, and taking a small sip before putting it down.

Emily smiled and downed her glass in one go.

Mary exchanged a few more pleasantries, then picked up her handbag and walked outside, wanting to go home early.

But as soon as she reached her car, her body couldn't help but sway, her mind dizzy, and she felt drowsy.

'Oh no!'

Panic surged through Mary as she fumbled with her phone, instinctively searching for "James" in her contacts.

The sight of his name made her catch her breath—she had forgotten that she was divorced from him.

Just as Mary was about to call Addison, a hand suddenly reached over and snatched her phone away.

"Focus on driving, why are you playing with your phone?"

Mary spun around, only to find Emily had mysteriously appeared behind her, wearing a knowing smile.

Mary staggered and tried to grab her phone. "Give me my phone; give it to me."

Emily turned halfway around, keeping the phone out of Mary's reach.

Mary anxiously shouted, "Give me back my phone."

Emily twirled away, keeping the phone just out of reach. "I'm not giving it back," she said, enjoying Mary's mounting frustration. Her goal was to let the drug's effects take full hold.

"You can't play with your phone while driving."

Emily shook the phone teasingly before tossing it into the darkness. It vanished from sight, and Mary's heart sank.

Mary instinctively moved forward to search.

"If you're drunk, you shouldn't be driving. Let me call a car for you," Emily said, guiding Mary forward with a forceful grip that allowed no room for resistance.

A Mercedes quietly stopped beside them, the window rolled down, and Joseph, wearing a baseball cap, sat in the driver's seat.

"Brother, this is the last move. Just have sex with her.

"You must succeed tonight, or Mary will never be my sister-in-law.

"She hates you now," Emily said and pushed Mary into the back seat.

Joseph looked at the panting Mary and smiled wickedly. "Don't worry, I'll conquer her well."

"The room is ready, Lotus Hotel, 808, booked under someone else's name. Even if Mary dares to call the police, we can handle it," Emily said, tossing in a room card. "Have fun."

Joseph laughed loudly. "Emily, you're so thoughtful."

"Let me out," Mary said, her last bit of sanity making her struggle to get out of the car.

"It's a beautiful night; why get out? Just enjoy it."

Emily laughed and pushed Mary back in, then closed the car door.

Joseph stepped on the gas and drove away.

Emily watched her brother and Mary leave, a hint of pride on her pretty face, and then she got into her own car and left.

Just as she disappeared, the bunny girl ran out from the entrance, quickly searched around, and soon picked up Mary's phone.

Seeing the screen flashing with James' name, she hesitated for a moment before pressing it.

"James, this is Ava Miller. We've met before. Mary is in trouble."
