Chapter 379 Six Gunshots, One Hole
James frowned as he saw the eight Smith Corporation bodyguards sprawled on the ground, white smoke spreading fast.
They hadn't even seen their enemy, and already eight of their own were down. This was killing without a trace.
"Cover your mouths and noses, fall back, quick!" James shouted to Mary and the others. "Try not to breathe in the smoke."
The white smoke was intense, and without the Toxiclear Elixir, Mary and the others had no way to fight it. James could only tell them to retreat as far as possible.
"James, come with us!" Mary instinctively yelled.
"You go first, I'll catch up," James said, helping Clarence to his feet. "Go!"
"I want to kill her!" Clarence's face was full of grief and anger. "She took my daughter, killed my wife, son, and my men. I want to kill her!"
"Kill who?" James dragged Clarence back with all his might. "If you could kill her, you wouldn't be in this mess. Revenge can wait."
"Rushing in now is just suicide. She's hunting you down to wipe you out. Don't be foolish."
James scolded Clarence while pulling him away. Clarence, though filled with sorrow, knew James was right. If he died, he wouldn't even have a chance for revenge.
Gritting his teeth, Clarence followed James in retreat. But they had only moved a few dozen feet when the white smoke suddenly thinned out and sped up tenfold.
The smoke shot forward like arrows, passing over and through James and Mary, carrying a sweet scent.
Two bodyguards accidentally inhaled the smoke while catching their breath and immediately collapsed, their faces turning green, foaming at the mouth, and bodies trembling.
"Open fire!" Mary, feeling dizzy, knew they couldn't escape the smoke and decisively ordered the remaining four bodyguards to shoot into the mist.
Bullets flew, but there were no screams. They either hit tree trunks, pierced stone slabs, or missed entirely. Nearly fifty bullets were fired, but the enemy remained unscathed, not even a shadow in sight.
"Trying to shoot me?" A strange laugh echoed. "Ignorant mortals, you will suffer a fate worse than death."
James squinted, scanning the area. All he could see was white smoke, the voice shifting from behind different trees. The enemy was using the smoke to hide.
"Come out if you dare," Mary said, her consciousness fading. "Stop playing tricks."
The laugh grew more playful. "Once you all fall, I'll come out to deal with you."
As James pondered a strategy, one by one, the Smith Corporation bodyguards fell, unable to resist. Clarence wobbled, trying to speak but collapsing instead.
A gust of wind blew, scattering the smoke and reducing visibility. James and Mary caught a glimpse of a shadowy figure in a black robe behind a sycamore tree.
Mary's eyes turned cold. She drew her gun and fired a series of shots at the tree. The black-robed figure initially dismissed the bullets, thinking they couldn't penetrate the tree. But after five shots, her expression grew serious.
At the sixth shot, she dodged, but a bullet grazed her cheek, leaving a one-inch cut. She screamed in pain and fury.
"Damn mortals, you dare harm me, Dark Shadow? I'll make you suffer!" Dark Shadow raised her hands, releasing a cloud of black smoke aimed at Mary.
James lunged, grabbing Mary and rolling several feet away. The smoke hit a trash can behind them, turning it yellow and releasing a swarm of mutated ants that chewed through it.
James cursed under his breath. No wonder even the wealthy Trevor feared Molly. These methods were truly insidious.
James tried to move away but saw Mary faint. He carried her a few feet before collapsing himself, foaming at the mouth.
"Mortals, defy me, Dark Shadow, and face death!" Five minutes later, the smoke cleared, and Dark Shadow emerged, leaning on a snake-headed cane. She was in her fifties, with a hideous, wrinkled face resembling a snake.
Dark Shadow inspected her victims, satisfied with their pale faces. "All down, good. I'll deal with you one by one," she said, her voice dripping with malice.
"Especially that wretched woman," she muttered, filled with hatred for Mary, touching the injury on her face. "I'll ruin your face, cut off your limbs, and let Gu Sorcery tear your organs apart."
Dark Shadow kicked Clarence aside and approached Mary, her cane revealing a sharp blade. She bent down, grinning, ready to cut Mary's face.
"Enjoy this," she grinned.
At that moment, James, foaming at the mouth, flipped over and clamped Dark Shadow's leg with his own, breaking it with a snap. She screamed and fell, dropping her cane.
"You didn't get poisoned?" Dark Shadow roared. "You dare trick me?" She raised her hands to cast a spell.
James leaped up, slashing down with a sword, severing her hands. Blood gushed out.
"Bastard! I'll kill you!" Dark Shadow screamed as James kicked her in the head, knocking her out.
James, sweating, knew he had to use cunning and a decisive strike against someone like Dark Shadow. Even unconscious, he didn't trust her, breaking her other leg and knocking out her teeth.
He called Nathaniel for help and performed acupuncture on Clarence and the others to keep them alive. Then he carried Mary to the Lucky Hotel. Passing the sycamore tree, he noticed only one bullet hole.
Six shots, one hole!
