Chapter 406 I Know Daryl
The sound of the payment notification abruptly cut off Marigold's furious rant.
Her mind went blank for a few seconds, thinking she must have misheard. She quickly pulled out her phone to check, and sure enough, there was a deposit of $200,000.
The sender was exactly James.
"Aunt Marigold, I transferred $200,000 to you," James said, handing the jewelry box to Samantha. "Let's call it settled."
The female store clerks were dumbfounded. They never expected James, who they thought was a freeloader, to casually hand over $200,000.
Marigold snapped out of her shock, initially thinking Bruce had given the money to James. But after checking Bruce's phone, she found no record of any transfer to James.
With a dark expression, she asked, "James, where did this money come from? How could a poor boy like you possibly have it?"
She was most worried that Bruce had given the money to James.
Bruce also looked stern. "James, what's the story with this money?"
Given his knowledge of James's family, Bruce knew there was no way they had $200,000 in savings. He was concerned James might have gotten the money through dubious means.
"Uncle Bruce, don't worry. The money is clean," James said with a smile. "I got an advance on my commission from Wish Group. I've been lucky and signed several big deals recently. If you don't believe me, you can ask Coralie."
James hadn't wanted to explain, but he knew that without an explanation, Bruce would worry and Marigold would assume Bruce had secretly helped him, leading to more chaos.
"Commission?" Marigold looked at James skeptically. "You've only been working there for less than a week, and you've signed several big deals? How could it be?"
Bruce turned to Coralie. "Is it true?"
"He did okay. He secured two renewals and collected a debt," Coralie said, knowing James was lying because Wish Group wouldn't advance commissions. But to keep the peace, she decided to cover for him. "A commission of several hundred thousand dollars is possible."
She looked at James, adding, "He probably got an advance on it."
Bruce was momentarily stunned, then delighted. He patted James on the shoulder. "Well done, James. Keep it up."
He thought about returning the $200,000 to James later, knowing it was hard-earned money.
"Several hundred thousand dollars in commission?" Marigold was shocked, then snorted at James. "You should thank Coralie. Without her, you wouldn't have done so well."
"Coralie, you too. It's fine to help out, but don't give all your hard-earned results to James. What about your performance reviews?"
She assumed Coralie had helped James and couldn't help but complain. "Our family is just too generous, always giving our all to others."
Coralie blushed. James's performance had nothing to do with her, but she knew her parents wouldn't believe her, so she didn't bother explaining.
"Uncle Bruce, is your headache really bad?" James asked, turning to Bruce. "How about I take a look?"
He had previously sensed Bruce had high blood pressure and was surprised Bruce now needed to see Daryl.
"You?" Marigold scoffed before Bruce could respond. "You just do odd jobs at the clinic. What are you pretending to be a doctor for? If you could treat him, why would we need Daryl?"
"Enough with the grandstanding," Marigold snapped.
She didn't believe James had any medical skills. Even if he knew a little, it wouldn't be much.
Coralie frowned, feeling a bit disappointed in James. Just when she was starting to see him in a better light, he began showing off again. How could he win her over like this? Did he still want to pursue her?
"Why are you always so sarcastic?" Bruce couldn't help but scold. "James is just concerned about me."
James quickly dropped the idea of treating Bruce, not wanting to cause more arguments.
He changed the subject. "Uncle Bruce, weren't you going to see Dr. Fields? Let's go. I know where he is."
James checked his watch and saw it was almost noon. Daryl should be at River View Tower, and he could take Bruce there to solve his problem.
If it were anyone else, James wouldn't be so abrupt, but Bruce was special to him.
Hearing this, Marigold, already annoyed, immediately said, "James, I know you can make some money now and have more confidence than before, but seeing Dr. Fields isn't just about money!"
"If it were about money, don't we have more than you? A million dollars, two million dollars, we could throw it around, but Dr. Fields doesn't care about that."
"We prepared a special gift. But your friend ruined it."
She glanced at Samantha. "You really messed things up."
Bruce's headache had been persistent, and knowing Daryl was in town, Marigold had tried everything to get him to see Bruce. But Daryl's secretary kept making excuses.
Today, they came to buy a gemstone cross because they heard that secretary liked gemstones. But Samantha accidentally broke it.
Now James claimed he could get Daryl to see Bruce, making Marigold think he was arrogant and boastful. Breaking the gemstone had already caused trouble, and now he was making things worse with his bragging.
With Coralie's help, he earned some money and thought he was somebody?
"James, I appreciate the thought, but let's not," Bruce said with a smile. "It's not that I don't believe you, but Dr. Fields is hard to pin down. Without an appointment, you won't even see him."
James smiled. "It's okay. He's waiting for me at River View Tower."
Marigold and Coralie laughed, their laughter filled with disdain.
Daryl, waiting for James at River View Tower? Ridiculous.
The female store clerks watching also looked at James with contempt. Just because he had some money, he thought he was invincible.
They despised men who were broke and liked to brag.
Bruce's smile froze. "James, stop. The more you say, the more absurd it sounds. Be practical. You don't have to ack like that in front of me."
He felt he shouldn't have praised James. A little praise, and he got carried away.
Marigold snorted. "If you can get Daryl to treat Bruce, I'll eat all these gemstone shards."
Just then, a black stretch Lincoln pulled up. The door opened, and a tall woman in a skirt suit stepped out.
Marigold instinctively gasped. "You are...?"
She recognized the woman as Daryl's secretary.
The secretary ignored Marigold, scanned the crowd, and respectfully addressed James.
"Mr. Williams, Dr. Fields sent me to pick you up."
Marigold and the others blushed with embarrassment.
