Chapter 429 Thunder Strike
After James saw Bruce and the others off, he was ready to take a shower and hit the sack. Just as he was about to lie down, Ruby's call came through.
"Hey, James, did Mr. Murphy call you?" she asked. "Did he mention the party?"
James chuckled, "Yeah, he just called. Said there's a meet-and-greet next Friday, and he wants me to be there."
Milo had informed James that the Glowing Oasis Mystic Alliance had gone through a lot and was finally coming together. The core members and important allies of the Mystic Alliance should gather for a good time.
This would not only strengthen their bonds but also help those with conflicts to reconcile, showcasing the thriving state of Mystic Alliance.
James thought it made sense but declined to attend. These social events were just too draining for him.
Ruby's voice was clear, "Are you going? The Mystic Alliance members are really looking forward to seeing you."
James leaned against the window, drying his hair. "You heard I turned down Mr. Murphy, so you're calling to twist my arm, right?"
"We really want you to come." Ruby got straight to the point. "Without you, the party won't be the same, and the members will be disappointed. After all, you're the key figure."
"This party is less about bonding and more about using your presence to boost everyone's morale."
"Both Milo and I are too familiar to the members. They know our capabilities inside out. In other words, they see their future in us."
"But we believe you can make them more motivated and reignite their passion. We really hope you can be there." She poured her heart out.
James felt a headache coming on. He didn't like attending such events or interacting with too many people, but he understood Ruby's point.
After a moment of thought, James laughed. "Are you trying to make me feel guilty? Alright, I'll be there on Friday, but I'll just make an appearance. Don't plan too many activities."
Ruby was overjoyed. "Thank you, President Williams. Don't worry, I'll handle everything."
After hanging up, James lay on the bed, thinking about finding Lancelot after the party to see if he could get a more relaxed position.
As he pondered, James yawned and gradually fell asleep.
In his dream, James had another argument with Mary. In a fit of anger, he slapped her, causing Mary to turn and jump out the window.
In deep regret, he rushed to pull her back.
He used all his strength to pull Mary halfway back, just as he was about to save her, a flash of a knife suddenly slashed at James's arm.
James's hair stood on end. "No—"
He woke up in fright, and at that moment, he felt a sense of danger from behind.
James's face changed dramatically. He tried to push himself off the mattress but felt weak.
The room was filled with a faint floral scent.
Poison! James quickly diagnosed his condition.
He growled and used all his strength to turn his body.
Almost simultaneously, a knife stabbed out from under the mattress, grazing his body and piercing three inches deep.
If James hadn't dodged the vital spot, this knife would have gone right through him. Even so, a deep gash appeared on his back, blood pouring out.
"An assassin!" James was stunned. He never expected an assassin to be hiding under his bed.
He didn't have time to think thoroughly. It was a matter of life and death. He shouted and activated the Life Gem.
The poison was instantly neutralized, and James regained his strength.
Just then, a masked woman slid out from under the bed, then leaped to the ceiling, flipping agilely.
She then dove down, her knife slashing down, targeting James's weakest spot—the top of his head. She wanted James's life.
James didn't even lift his head, his steps shifted, his figure moving like a phantom.
The knife missed, slashing the mattress with a loud crash, splitting the bed in half, the springs breaking and scattering.
The masked woman was shocked. "You're not poisoned?"
"I was. But I neutralized it." James exhaled. Then he observed her and smiled. "Your clothes, shoes, and hairstyle haven't changed. What's the point of wearing a mask, Ms. Price?"
The masked woman's eyelids twitched, then she removed the mask, revealing the charming Ivy.
"James, you're truly extraordinary." She swept away the disdain from the party, becoming more fierce. "Not only did you dodge my killing blow, but you also neutralized my special poison."
She thought killing James would be easy, given her unbeatable poison, but James neutralized it.
"Thanks for the compliment." James smiled. "But you should have expected it. I'm a doctor, and I know a bit about detoxification."
Ivy narrowed her eyes. "I underestimated you."
"And I did you." James laughed. "You're quite something, not killing me openly but using Marigold to get close to me. I have to say, you're very cunning."
He had figured it all out. Ivy wanted to kill him but couldn't find an opportunity, so she used Marigold as an excuse.
She pretended to care for Coralie, constantly mocking and scolding James, making him think she was a shrew, lowering his guard.
Then, she acted like she wanted to see James embarrassed, teaming up with Vance to send James back to Leo Villa.
Finally, Ivy hid under James's bed during the chaos, waiting for him to fall asleep, then released the poison for a lethal strike.
Unfortunately, she didn't expect James to neutralize the poison, ultimately failing.
"Enough talk." Ivy shook her knife, staring at James with killing intent. "Tonight, no matter what, I will kill you."
James smiled again. "Really? Well, since I'm going to die, why don't you show your true self?"
Ivy's pupils contracted, "What true self?"
James looked at her curiously. "You're not Delilah?"
Ivy's body trembled.
In the next second, she leaped and slashed at James. "Die!"
