Chapter 61 Made a Move
Under Jonathan's arrangement, James and Samuel sat down on the east side of Whispering Willow Retreat.
James ordered four dishes and a soup, along with two bottles of apple cider vinegar, and then began to eat.
"James, I think we should leave here first," Samuel said hesitantly. "It's not that I don't trust your strength, but there's no need to cause trouble for my sake."
Although making the arrogant Ella suffer gave Samuel unprecedented satisfaction, the thought of Stephen gave him a headache.
"What are you talking about?" James sat up straight. "You're my friend. Your humiliation is my humiliation. It's only right for me get revenge for you."
Samuel was slightly moved. "James, I know you consider me a friend, but..."
"Don't overthink it. You're my friend, and no matter how big the trouble, I won't be afraid," James said confidently. "I can tell you, if Stephen and Ella seek revenge, they'll find the outcome even more miserable. Come, let's eat."
At that moment, a chair was kicked aside, and a group of people stormed into the restaurant.
Leading the group, Ella walked in with disdain for everyone present, as if this place, filled with wealthy and influential people, was beneath her.
Under Ella's guidance, Stephen spotted James and Samuel, then sneered contemptuously and led his group straight over.
Samuel's expression instantly tensed.
James glanced at them casually and told Samuel not to get involved; he could handle it himself.
"Stephen, it's this bastard who messed with me. Samuel got involved, too" Ella said, stepping forward and pointing angrily at James. "They humiliated me. I want you to teach them a lesson."
"James, you've messed with my woman, and today, you're going to pay for it. State your background and family," Stephen said, swaggering up while playing with a butterfly knife. "Don't get me wrong. I'm not worried about provoking a big shot. But once you reveal your details, I'll take down your whole family, too."
His domineering words immediately made Ella and the others feel triumphant.
Not far away, Jonathan looked at them as if they were fools.
Ella sneered. "Let me tell you, this is Stephen from the Green family, someone you can't afford to offend."
James wiped his mouth with a napkin, completely unfazed by the situation.
Samuel quickly stood up, forcing a smile. "Mr. Stephen, this is a misunderstanding."
"No misunderstanding," Stephen said, grabbing Samuel's face and squeezing it without restraint. "You're nothing, not qualified to talk about misunderstandings."
He then looked at James with a sinister smile. "Don't worry, I won't lay a hand on you myself, nor will I let my people do it. Bullying with numbers and violence is too low for me. I'll make your family willingly cripple you, this blind fool. And then I'll make them pay the price."
"Samuel, sit down," James said, pulling Samuel back and then looking at Stephen with a faint smile. "Your name is Stephen? From The Greens pharmaceutical company?"
Stephen responded with a smirk, "Indeed, I am Stephen. Are you planning to take action against me now that you know who I am? Fascinating. I haven't laid a finger on you, and yet here you are, stirring up trouble. Your pretentious demeanor is rather entertaining."
Stephen even took out his driver's license and business card from his wallet, throwing them on the table with a sarcastic tone. "It has my name, home address, and company information, as well as my parents' address. If you have the guts, make a move on me."
Ella and her group laughed sarcastically, all thinking James was just putting on a show.
James pulled out his phone and glanced at Stephen. "You've asked for this; it would be impolite not to respond."
He dialed a number, and once the call was connected, he spoke in a detached tone.
James said, "Two things. First, dismiss Ella, the head of the procurement department. Second, cease all collaboration with The Greens herbs."
Having given his directives, James pocketed his phone, offered a slight smile, and said, "Stephen, as you wish."
Ella snorted at James. "You are just bluffing. Go ahead, fire me. A cab driver putting on airs as if he were the chairman of BH Pharmaceuticals."
Ella smirked. "You're just like Samuel, all show and no substance."
Stephen joined in the mockery. "James, if you can convince BH Pharmaceuticals to stop working with me, I will crawl from here to the door."
The attractive women around them all chuckled but said nothing, their eyes filled with scorn and skepticism. They clearly believed that James was simply posturing.
At that moment, Ella's phone rang. She took a quick look, picked it up, and answered. After a moment, her face turned deathly pale, and her hand began to tremble!
Stephen frowned slightly. "Ella, what's wrong?"
Ella looked mournful. "Hundred Flowers Board fired me, saying there's something fishy about my dealings with you. The police are also investigating all my transactions, and if they find any discrepancies, I'll be sent to jail. Stephen, you have to help me, help me!"
The women around them were all dumbfounded.
Ella shouted at James, "Why is this happening?"
Stephen's gaze turned sharp. He was a bit surprised that James could get Ella fired, but he didn't take it to heart, thinking James might just know some board member. Besides, even if James could fire Ella, it didn't mean James could do something to him given his connections with Skylar.
"James, I have to hand it to you. You do have some tricks up your sleeve," Stephen said, grinning at James with a hint of menace. "Now, if you're bold enough, let's see you make a move against me too."
As soon as he finished speaking, Stephen's phone rang. He answered four calls in a row.
After hanging up the last call, Stephen was completely stiff.
BH Pharmaceuticals had completely ceased cooperation.
Hundred Flowers Bank had terminated three loan approvals.
Someone had reported The Greens pharmaceutical company for selling substandard products.
Stephen told him to spare no expense to quell the crisis.
James slowly approached Stephen, pinched his cheek, and smiled. "What about it?"
Ella and her group were dumbfounded. They didn't expect James to dare insult Stephen like this and were even more surprised that Stephen didn't resist.
Ella panicked. "Mr. Stephen, this bastard is malicious. Kill him!"
Stephen slapped Ella, knocking her down. "Get lost. Who do you think you are, talking to Mr. Williams like that?"
He kicked her again. If it weren't for this woman, he wouldn't have offended James and jeopardized his position as heir.
Mr. Williams?
Ella, with blood at the corner of her mouth, looked at James in panic and disbelief, not knowing who this mysterious figure was.
"Mr. Williams, I was wrong," Stephen said, forcing a smile and having someone bring a bottle of Champagne. He poured three full glasses. "Please forgive me."
Ella and the other women were completely stunned.
Was Stephen really bowing to James?
Could James have really moved against the Greens family?
James didn't spare Stephen any dignity, swiping away three cups with a single gesture.
"You've repeatedly pushed Samuel around. Three cups of wine won't wash it all away. I'm not some divine judge," James retorted. "But here's what you can do. Kneel and apologize to Samuel. I won't hold you accountable today. How's that sound?"
Stephen's eyelids twitched in anger, but in the end, he lowered his proud head, clenched his teeth, and his fists trembled slightly.
Finally, he made his choice, took two steps forward, and, with a thud, knelt before Samuel.
Stephen said, "I'm sorry."
