Chapter 189 Worlds Apart from Joseph

Mary knew this scene all too well. Last time at Vocal Vista, James had kicked the door open just like this.

She thought, 'How does he find me? How does he know what is happening?

'Well, it doesn'tmatter. I've got my hope'

"James," Mary whispered, barely audible.

"Get the hell out!" Joseph jumped off the bed, blood blurring his vision, not recognizing James right away.

James, without sparing Joseph a glance, fixed his gaze on Mary, who was trembling on the bed.

The once poised Mary now cowered like a frightened lamb, her face swollen, her forehead bruised, and her body smeared with blood. She looked completely dazed, like a zombie.

James' eyes widened in horror, a surge of rage and pain flooding his mind. Despite being divorced from Mary, he couldn't stand seeing her mistreated like this.

Just then, three men in black stormed in—Joseph's bodyguards.

Joseph wiped the blood from his face and yelled, "Get him out of here!"

The three bodyguards charged straight at James.

Without hesitation, James sprang into action. He landed a powerful kick to one bodyguard's midsection, followed by a sharp right hook to another's jaw. A moment later, he delivered another brutal kick.

The three bodyguards were hurled through the air like ragdolls, crashing into the wall with a sickening thud. Blood spurted from their mouths as they collapsed, unconscious.

James paid no attention to their fate. His sole focus was locked on Joseph.

At that moment, Joseph recognized his attacker was James, and a shiver ran through him.

When he saw the three bodyguards unable to get up and fight, Joseph's face turned ashen. He stammered, "James, the Garcia family is powerful and influential. You don't want to cross them. If you hurt me…"

He swallowed hard, desperation creeping into his voice. "Not only will you ruin yourself, but you'll also drag Mary, the Smith family, and even your own family into it.

"The Garcias can easily pay to have you all killed!

"James, tonight's a misunderstanding. I didn't touch Mary.

"Let me go, and I promise never to bother her again. I'll even give you money.

"Fourteen million dollars, plus the fourteen million for the porcelain, that's twenty-eight million. How about it?

"If that's not enough, take these too.

Joseph picked up his wallet, threw it over, then placed his jade ring, Rolex, and car keys in front of James.

He wasn't sure how skilled James was, but the beastly aura from James made Joseph uneasy.

He hoped to leave with minimal cost and deal with James later.

But James stayed silent.

"James, let me go," Joseph shouted, looking at his unconscious bodyguards. "We'll never bother each other again."

James gave no response, his expression cold and defiant as he continued his relentless advance towards Joseph.

James harbored no pity or sympathy for someone who used such ruthless, immoral methods to bully others. He was certain that, given Joseph's nature, Joseph would seek revenge when the opportunity arose.

Meanwhile, Mary, huddled in a shivering ball, was a tangle of emotions, her tear-filled eyes betraying her inner turmoil. She was consumed by a deep desire for vengeance against Joseph, wishing she could see him torn to pieces for the terror he had inflicted. But she didn't want James to end up in prison on her account; after all, Joseph's wealth and influence made him a formidable adversary.

She struggled to say, "James, don't kill him."

James still didn't respond.

Joseph kept retreating.

When his back hit the window, with no way out, he grabbed a vase and charged at James.

Though immoral, Joseph wasn't a weakling. He was good at business and kept fit.

But compared to James, he was nothing.

Joseph barely made it halfway when James kicked him like a meteor into the sofa.

As Joseph crashed into the sofa, his body in pain, he saw James approaching, grabbing his hair and yanking it down.

James' knee came crashing up.

Blood burst out, the impact sound filling Joseph's world.

Joseph screamed like a dying dog, but James didn't care.

He bent down, grabbed Joseph by the neck, turned, and pressed him onto the tempered glass coffee table.

The thick glass table cracked into countless fractures centered on Joseph's forehead.

Amid Joseph's screams, James kept pressing his neck, again and again.

Cold and merciless.

"James, don't kill him," Mary managed to shout in Joseph's moment of despair. "He's a beast, not worth dragging you into this. Let the police handle him.

"I'll make sure he can't escape. He'll rot in jail," she promised, struggling to get up. But she lost her balance, rolled off the bed, and hit the floor with a muffled groan before passing out.

James finally set Joseph aside with a dismissive gesture and swiftly moved to Mary's side.

He examined Mary's hand and quickly determined that she was unconscious but otherwise unharmed. A wave of relief washed over him as he wrapped her in a bed sheet. Then, he pulled out his phone and made a call.

Soon, Troy and a few others arrived, hauling Joseph and his men away with speed and efficiency. James wasn't about to leave any room for retaliation from someone like Joseph

James didn't leave immediately. He realized Mary had been drugged, and it would soon take effect when she woke up. He took out silver needles to detoxify her.

Five minutes later, James had expelled the drug from her system. Just then, the door was kicked open with a loud bang.

Five or six people stormed in—Charles, Addison, and their group.

Seeing the mess, Addison rushed to James and slapped him. "Bastard, using despicable means on Mary? You scum!" She slapped him again, but this time, James grabbed her hand and threw her aside.

"Bastard, you dare to fight back?" Addison was furious. "Can't get Mary, so you force her? Are you even a man?

"If Kaitlyn hadn't noticed something was wrong and called us, Mary's innocence would have been ruined by you.

"I'm calling the police to arrest you," she threatened, as aggressive as ever.

Charles frowned and said, "James, you must explain yourself."

Christopher and his wife were also angry, treating James like a criminal.

"No explanation needed, and none will be given," James said. He knew the Smith family wouldn't believe him anyway. He just wanted a clear conscience.

After speaking, James pulled out the needles from Mary and walked straight through the crowd to leave.

"Leave? Who said you could leave? Christopher, stop him. I'm calling the police," Addison yelled, furious at being ignored.

Christopher tried to stop him but was pushed aside by James.

"Mom, it's a misunderstanding, a misunderstanding," Kaitlyn said, running into the room and grabbing her angry mother.

"James isn't a bad person. He sent the message for me to come and save her. He was probably worried about my sister's safety and came here first to save her." She showed Addison the phone and messages.

"What? He asked you to come?" Addison's eyelids twitched, but she remained stubborn. "Who knows if these calls and messages were deliberate? I don't believe him. When we came in, it was just him and Mary. He was clearly up to no good. I'm definitely calling the police."

Charles hesitated and said, "Let's figure things out first. Mom, there's a camera here."

Suddenly, Abigail pointed to a corner and shouted, "It must be James' sick idea."

"Great, that bastard even set up a camera. And he says he wasn't up to no good with Mary," Addison said, picking up the camera and opening it in front of everyone, hoping to find evidence against James.

"Mom, don't worry. We have so many witnesses and this physical evidence. James won't get away," Christopher said, pointing at the camera. "Hand it over to the police, and James is done for."

Kaitlyn felt helpless. "Mom, James isn't like that."

"You don't understand anything, kid. James is a greedy and lustful scoundrel, worlds apart from Joseph. I've seen through him long ago," Addison cursed as she opened the playback.

But the moment they saw the playback, Addison and the others were suddenly stunned as if they had been electrocuted.
