Chapter 262 If You Can't Cure It, I'll Kill You
Olivia's teasing just made James more curious, but he didn't let it get to him.
Life had taught him that it was better to rely on yourself than to depend on others.
People could let you down, but you could always count on yourself.
He grabbed breakfast with Olivia at a restaurant, then she rushed off to wrap up the final details as Sky Peak Club took over The Bennett's assets.
James, meanwhile, headed back to Bright Heart Hall Clinic for his consultations.
No matter how much the world changed or how much money he had, for James, practicing medicine and saving lives was non-negotiable.
As soon as he opened the door, he saw Joel hobbling in with a cane.
James was a bit surprised but then smiled, "Mr. Thompson."
"Mr. Williams, hello," Joel said, almost apologetically. "I came uninvited, please forgive me."
"Not at all, you helped me out a lot yesterday. I still owe you one," James replied with a gentle smile. "Besides, I'm running a business here. Why would I turn you away?"
James didn't have much of a soft spot for Joel, but since he helped him out yesterday and was being so friendly today, he figured he should be polite.
Joel smiled back, "Mr. Williams, you're too kind. It was nothing, anyone else would have called the cops too."
Joel was not only respectful but also pretty scared of James. When James had broken his limbs, Joel was furious and wanted revenge.
Even though Andrew had later scolded him and made him drop the idea of revenge, Joel still thought James was just bluffing.
Sebastian and Nathaniel's actions seemed laughable to Joel.
Reporting Mary’s kidnapping to James yesterday was just to get on Andrew's good side.
But this morning, after hearing about the showdown at The Bennett's garden from Andrew, Joel was completely freaked out.
Neil, a notorious gangster, was easily taken down by James. As a Thompson family nephew, how could he still look down on James?
So he rushed to JZL Medical Clinic first thing in the morning.
"Mr. Williams, I came today for a couple of things," Joel said, cutting to the chase. "First, I want to ask the doctors at JZL Medical Clinic to check my limbs and see if there's any medicine to speed up the healing."
He didn't ask James to treat him directly, showing he knew he wasn't in a position to make such a request.
"Second, I found Mary's bag yesterday and wanted to ask you to pass it on to her." He pulled out a bag, opened it, and handed Mary’s Floral Elegance bag to James.
James took the bag and glanced at Joel. After adjusting his attitude, Joel was acting pretty decently.
James waved him over, "Come, sit down, let me check your broken bones."
Joel was a bit taken aback but then overjoyed, "Thank you, Mr. Williams."
James waved it off, "Don't call me Mr. Williams, just call me James or Dr. Williams."
Joel tried to get closer, "Alright, if you don't mind, I'll call you James."
James nodded and got to work. After some acupuncture, he prescribed a few medicines to help Joel recover faster.
When Joel stood up from the chair, he looked like a new man, full of energy and confidence.
Even his broken limbs felt way more flexible, and what should've taken three months to heal would now take, at most, a month.
Feeling the changes, Joel was over the moon. "Amazing, James, you're truly incredible."
He was completely sold on James's skills.
James handed him the prescription. "Take the meds as prescribed, three times a day, and come back for a follow-up in two weeks."
"Thanks, James," Joel said, full of gratitude, and left a check for James as he headed out.
Fourteen million dollars!
A huge sum.
James just smiled, glanced at the check, and noticed the signature.
Cool Entertainment.
He didn't expect Joel to be in the entertainment business.
James tossed the check to Nathaniel. "Deposit it."
Nathaniel glanced at the check, muttered something about Joel being a suck-up, and then wondered if he should get injured just to have James treat him.
Just as Joel left, an off-road vehicle sped into the clinic entrance, the driver looking aggressive and arrogant, making Nathaniel and Sebastian furious.
Sebastian threw down his cigarette and stomped it out. "Who’s being so cocky?"
Nathaniel was also filled with rage. "Another one from The Howard family? Let's take her down!"
Stephen grabbed a stool, ready for action.
The car door opened, and a tall, tough-looking woman in a dark green outfit stepped out, playing with a knife.
It was Riley.
As soon as they saw Riley, the aggressive Sebastian, and the others instantly scattered, rolling and crawling away as fast as they could.
Nathaniel even ditched his cane and hopped away.
They all knew Riley, no doubt about it.
James was surprised to see her, not knowing why she was here, but he still smiled and said, "Miss Walker, long time no see."
Riley glanced at James. "Well, did you miss me?"
James captured her glance and sensed her lofty attitude, which stumped him for a second.
But he still smiled. "What brings you here today? Is Mr. Miller unwell?"
"I'm here for treatment." Riley walked straight to James, took off her coat with a swift motion, revealing a black tank top and her enticing tanned skin.
Then she pointed to an arrow wound on her waist.
The wound was triangular, festering, and blackened, with signs of spreading.
It looked painful, but Riley remained calm, making James secretly admire her toughness.
James squinted slightly. "Is there black mamba venom on the arrow?"
The black mamba was the fastest and most dangerous snake in Joyville, also the deadliest snake in the world.
"You're right." Riley asked directly, "Can you detoxify it?"
"This wound is easy to treat," James said calmly. "But you have a more serious problem."
Riley's eyes narrowed. "What do you mean?"
James asked, "Have you been having insomnia, nightmares, and everything going wrong lately? Don't you find it strange?"
Riley's eyes turned cold. "Are you investigating me?"
"I have no reason to investigate you," James smiled. "If my diagnosis is correct, your bad luck started when someone stabbed you in the back."
Hearing this, Riley was stunned, looking at James in disbelief. "How do you know?"
James smiled. "I'm a doctor."
Riley's eyes lit up. "Can you treat it?"
"Not difficult," James teased. "But my consultation fee is very high."
Riley slashed the consultation table in half with her knife. "If you cure me, I'll marry you. If you don't, I'll kill you."
