Chapter 449 Remarry
James didn't let Dane's words get to him.
No matter who tried to scare him off, Aurelia had to go. If she didn't, someone close to him would end up dead because of her.
After taking care of Aurelia, James had Clarence clean up the mess while he headed back to Leo Villa alone to recover.
Sitting in the backyard of Leo Villa, staring across the lake at Swan Villa, James felt a bit down, lost in thought.
"Hey, I made this remedy. It's good for gunshot wounds."
James was brought back to reality by Samantha, who approached with a steaming bowl of medicine. She wore her usual ponytail and jeans.
James rubbed his head. "I don't want it. I'm fine."
Samantha didn't budge, still holding the porcelain bowl stubbornly.
James lightly tapped her head. "I can take care of myself. I don't need medicine. Besides, it's hot and bitter, tastes awful."
"It's not hot at all. I tested it before I brought it."
Samantha pursed her lips and then opened her left palm, revealing a piece of candy.
"Drink the medicine, then have a candy. It won't be bitter." She coaxed James like a child. "Come on, while it's just the right temperature, drink it up."
James spread his hands. "Can't I skip it?"
Samantha blinked. "Just one bowl today, okay?"
Knowing Samantha's stubbornness, James could only shake his head helplessly and then took the bowl and gulped it down.
Samantha didn't speak, just watched James with a gentle expression, her eyes reflecting only his image.
Soon, James finished the medicine and placed the bowl on the table. "Done."
Samantha snapped out of her daze, smiled softly, and carefully unwrapped the candy, then held it up to James's mouth.
James looked at Samantha's pampering expression and said, "You really treat me like a kid, huh?"
Though his words resisted, he ate the candy, making Samantha's smile even sweeter.
"Although you're stubborn, I must say, you'll definitely be a great wife and mother someday." James affirmed, "I wonder who'll be lucky enough to marry you."
Samantha muttered, "I don't want to get married."
"Hold still, just like this. I'll take a picture."
James picked up Samantha's phone and adjusted the angle to take a few photos of her.
Though a bit shy, Samantha didn't stop James, letting him take her pictures.
"Not bad, you look adorably silly." James teased Samantha while flipping through the photos on the phone. Suddenly, his gaze paused slightly on a photo taken that morning.
It was a casual shot by Samantha, showing a balcony he instantly recognized as Swan Villa.
On the balcony, a middle-aged man was tightly hugging Marigold.
Marigold's face showed no sadness; instead, she had a charming smile, looking more like a delicate woman than ever.
The middle-aged man wasn't Bruce's father-in-law, Ian, but someone completely unfamiliar to James.
Bruce had just been sent to the funeral home last night, his body not yet buried, and Marigold was already entangled with another man.
James's eyes grew sharper.
He knew Marigold and Bruce's relationship wasn't great, and they'd argued several times in the past half month because of him. But he never expected her to betray Bruce.
From the embrace, it was clear they weren't meeting for the first time, nor was it their first intimate moment.
James shook the phone and asked Samantha, "Did you take this photo?"
"Yeah, I knew you were hurt, so I went to the wetland park this morning to gather herbs."
Samantha blinked and replied, "I saw a lot of herbs good for treating wounds there, so I took Dax and dug some up."
"After gathering them, I thought the scenery was nice, so I took a bunch of photos."
She asked curiously, "What's up? Is there something wrong with the photo?"
"No, the photo is great." James sent the photo of Marigold to his phone, then smiled at Samantha, "Alright, go rest."
Samantha nodded. "Okay, I'll go prepare dinner."
She ran off with the porcelain bowl, her face radiant and bright.
"Quite bold, getting involved with such a stubborn girl."
As James watched Samantha leave with a smile, another lazy, intoxicating voice sounded.
Then, Olivia walked over.
She wore sunglasses that covered half her face, leaving only her rosy lips visible. Her black hair was tucked into her trench coat, giving her a carefree, effortless beauty.
James's gaze softened.
Noticing his look, Olivia raised her delicate eyebrows. "How do I look? Am I pretty?"
James smiled and flattered, "You're always pretty"
"Even though I know you're just humoring me, I still love hearing it." Olivia giggled and walked up to James. "How's it going? Feeling better?"
"You really are something, going to the Royal Court Hotel alone to avoid involving others."
"Aren't you worried you might not come back?"
She reached out and gently touched James's wound, her eyes filled with pity and concern. "If something happened to you, I'd probably follow you in death."
"The Gonzalez Family isn't some small clan. Taking down Micah will surely bring retaliation." James smiled calmly, "No need to involve the Lee family, the Rivera family, or the Mystic Alliance. No need to drag friends into this."
James could have brought a bunch of people to the Royal Court Hotel conflict, but he knew the consequences of taking down Micah, so he didn't want to trouble Gerald and the others.
Olivia's fingers slid across James's chest, "But what about me? If you die, what will I do? What will Mary do?"
"I'm fine, aren't I?" James smiled and patted his chest, then changed the subject, "By the way, why are you here?"
"You got hurt. Shouldn't I come to check on you?" Olivia rolled her eyes at James, "Or is Mary the only one allowed to visit you?"
"That's not what I meant." James smiled helplessly, "I just thought the Gonzalez Family suffered quite a loss this time. With your grandfather's temperament, there must be big moves."
Olivia's eyes widened slightly, surprised by James's sharpness, then she giggled, "I came today not just to visit you but also to ask for your decision on something."
She looked at James tenderly, "Ulysses approached my grandfather last night, hoping he'd ask Mr. Reyes to release Micah and Lavinia."
"My grandfather played dumb and set three conditions: three hundred million dollars in cash, the Royal Court Hotel, and the eight-billion-dollar plot in Stardust City."
"Ulysses agreed immediately, but my grandfather didn't respond right away. He sent me to ask for your opinion."
"If you give Micah a chance, he'll ask Mr. Reyes to intervene. If you want to fight to the end, he'll pretend Ulysses never came."
She held James's hand. "Whether Micah and his sister get released is entirely up to you."
"Let them go." James smiled. "Mr. Reyes only detained them to warn the other side, not intending to destroy Micah and his sister."
"Besides, Micah and Aurelia are close, but not to the extent of international connections. The Dragon's Breath can't exploit this easily."
"Even without your grandfather's intervention, the Gonzalez Family would eventually rescue them."
"Since we can't hold Micah and Lavinia, it's better to let your grandfather earn some extra and gain some favor."
He rubbed Olivia's hand. "So, let them go."
James wanted to kill Micah but knew he wasn't yet capable of doing so, so he had to let Micah live for now.
"My grandfather was right. He said you'd let them go." Olivia smiled, "Alright, I'll call my grandfather later and have him ask Mr. Reyes to release Micah and his sister."
James added, "You can also earn Gerald's favor by sending Isla back to Stardust City."
Olivia's eyes lit up, then she kissed James. "Got it."
At that moment, a tall figure appeared at the entrance, accompanied by a fragrant breeze.
"James, we have guests. Why not invite them to the living room instead of hiding here in the wind?" Mary's cold gaze fell on Olivia, "Ms. Lee, long time no see."
"James's ex-wife... No, Ms. Smith, it's you. Long time no see." Olivia greeted with a smile, then softly said to James, "James, your ex-wife is here. Treat her well. I'll go handle my business."
"Remember, an ex-wife is also a guest. Treat her well."
With that, she waved to Mary and left.
Mary was almost furious, grabbing James's ear and shouting, "We need to remarry, right now."
