Chapter 377 You Jump In

Seeing the familiar, aloof Mary, James felt a wave of dizziness wash over him.

Mary? When did she get here?

Could it be that Kaitlyn was asking about his whereabouts earlier on Mary's behalf?

But wasn't she supposed to be in Stardust City? How did she end up here at Glowing Oasis?

Seeing Mary standing right in front of him, James had a million questions, but more than anything, his heart skipped a beat.

One of the reasons he hadn't shown up at the courthouse to finalize the divorce was to rescue Olivia. He had even assured Mary of their innocence back then.

But now, with Olivia in his arms, James felt a sudden pang of guilt.

"Mary!" James's grip on Olivia loosened involuntarily.

Olivia's body went limp, and she started to fall to the ground.

James snapped out of it and quickly caught her again, his expression awkward.

Olivia lifted her pretty face, beaming at Mary as she called out, "Ms. Smith, long time no see. How are you?"

Mary didn't respond at all, not even a flicker of emotion. She just walked towards James, her gaze sharp and icy, exuding an unapproachable coldness.

"Mary," James said softly, "What are you doing here?"

Even if he was clueless, it was obvious Mary was here for him, though he had no idea why.

Mary didn't say a word, didn't explode in anger, just stared coldly at James before walking past him and Olivia as if they didn't exist.

"Mary," James called out, reaching to grab her as she walked by.

Mary moved her arm, avoiding his touch, and continued walking away, expressionless.

Watching her silhouette fade into the night, James felt a pang in his heart, as if something was slipping away, creating a distance between them.

"You still have feelings for her," Olivia whispered into James's ear before he could react. "Go, go after Mary. Otherwise, you'll regret it."

James looked down at Olivia.

"It's okay, I can take care of myself. I understand how you feel," Olivia smiled. "For me, your happiness is my happiness. If you're not happy, what's the point of having you?"

"I don't like Mary, but I don't want you to suffer. If it makes you feel better, I can endure it."

"Go now, before she gets too far and you lose her forever."

Olivia was jealous, of course, but she knew that if she didn't let James go, his heart would only be more focused on Mary.

"Olivia, thank you," James said, feeling a pang of guilt as he gently placed her on the sofa. "Kevin, Briar, take Olivia upstairs."

He instructed the hotel staff to take good care of Olivia, then rushed out of the hotel as fast as he could.

Watching James's retreating figure, Olivia pressed her hand against her injured knee, feeling inexplicably weak.

James was hers, or so she had thought since he came to Glowing Oasis to save her. But with Mary's appearance, it felt like James was slipping through her fingers like sand.

James stood on the steps, looking around but not seeing any sign of Mary. He ran to the parking lot security office and checked the surveillance footage.

Finally, he saw Mary walking alone towards the riverside boardwalk.

James quickly crossed the street to the riverbank and soon spotted Mary's lonely figure.

Mary no longer had the sharpness she had at the hotel. Her pace had slowed, but she looked even more desolate and fragile.

"Mary!" James ran over and grabbed her. "Let me explain!"

"Get lost!" Mary shouted, pushing James's hand away. "Don't touch me."

James grabbed her again. "Olivia just escaped. I took her to the Lucky Hotel to rest. I didn't—"

"Get lost!" Mary struggled with all her might, but James held her firmly. "I don't want your explanations!"

"Your business has nothing to do with me. Nothing to do with me," Mary pushed James angrily. "Let go of me!"

"No, I won't" James said, holding onto her arm tightly. "If you didn't care about me, you wouldn't have come looking for me."

No matter why Mary had come, the fact that she, with her pride, had shown up meant she still had feelings for him.

"I came looking for you, but that was a moment of impulse. I regret it now. I want my dignity back, okay?" Mary vented her anger at James. "Let go of me and go back to your room with Olivia."

The morning after Kaitlyn's call, Mary had flown to Glowing Oasis in a hurry, secretly watching James's every move.

Today, she had swallowed her pride and asked Kaitlyn to get James's address, coming to see him herself.

Mary had tried to take the initiative to mend their relationship.

But she hadn't expected her hopes and dreams to be crushed by James, just like the last time they tried to reconcile.

She had wanted to surprise James, but he had given her a shock instead.

She had waited at the hotel, hoping for sweetness, but found James and Olivia in an embrace.

At that moment, Mary felt as insignificant as dust.

James didn't let go. "Can't you just listen to my explanation?"

Mary instinctively kneed him.

James felt a sharp pain in his abdomen. Mary didn't hold back. If he hadn't tightened his abs in time, his groin would have been in trouble.

Seeing the pain on James's face, Mary's expression softened for a moment before she hardened again. "Let go of me."

James decided to hold on no matter what. "No."

Mary tugged and pulled at James, but when he wouldn't let go, she bit his arm.

James grunted in pain and let go. "Are you a dog?"

Mary regretted biting him immediately but couldn't turn back now. She hit James with her purse a few times before turning and walking away.

"Mary," James called, rubbing his arm as he chased after her. "I didn't sleep with Olivia tonight. I was just helping her because she was hurt."

"You called me a dog, but you're the one clinging to me like one," Mary shouted. "Go away. I don't want to hear your explanations."

"Stop torturing me. Go back to your gentle woman."

"Do whatever you want. Sleep with whoever you want. It has nothing to do with me."

Though Mary kept yelling at James, she couldn't help but glance at the red mark on his arm where she had bitten him.

She had bitten him pretty hard, almost breaking the skin.

"No, I have a clear conscience. I can't let this misunderstanding deepen," James said, reacting quickly. He stepped in front of Mary and wrapped his arms around her waist.

No matter how much Mary scratched and pushed, he didn't let go.

"Fine, you want me to listen to your explanation?" Mary pointed to the river outside the railing, laughing angrily. "Jump in, and I'll listen."

Without a second thought, James turned and jumped.

Splash!

"Idiot," Mary muttered, stunned, before jumping in after him.
