Chapter 432 Did I Let You Go?
Byron didn't waste any time and pointed with his hand. "Dr. Williams, please."
James had barely taken two steps when the attending physician deliberately blocked his path. "Mr. Reyes, who is this?"
"This is the doctor my niece Olivia recommended to take a look at Matilda. His name is James." Byron introduced the two. "Dr. Williams, this is Matilda's attending physician, Dr. Dean Palmer, PhD from Eastern Medical School."
"If you need to know anything, you can ask him directly." He added, "He knows Matilda's condition inside and out."
James greeted politely, "Hello, Dr. Palmer."
Hearing that Byron had found another doctor for Matilda, Dean's expression changed instantly.
"Excuse me, may I ask where you graduated from?" He didn't shake James' hand.
"I didn't study abroad. In fact, I didn't even go to medical school." James spoke nonchalantly, "I'm self-taught and run my own clinic."
"Self-taught? Ridiculous!" Dean's face hardened. "Medicine is such a precise field. Being self-taught is as good as endangering lives. No wonder doctors in Celestia have such a bad reputation."
He turned back to Byron. "Mr. Reyes, Matilda's condition is stable and not life-threatening, but the chances of her waking up are slim."
"If you want her to wake up, you'll have to hope for a miracle or wait for my mentor from Lumaria to treat her. Otherwise, it's unlikely."
Dean gave James a disdainful glance. "Frankly, Mr. Reyes, this Dr. Williams you brought in today is completely unnecessary."
"Since Olivia recommended him, I have to give it a try." Byron looked at James. "Dr. Williams, please."
Dean's face darkened.
James nodded and stepped forward to examine Matilda. As he passed Dean, he sniffed the air, catching a familiar scent.
James glanced at Dean before sitting down beside Matilda to conduct a serious examination.
In less than a minute, he withdrew his hand.
Seeing James finish so quickly, Byron sighed, thinking James was also powerless.
Dean sneered, "I told you, there's no way he could wake Matilda up."
"Who said she can't wake up?" James looked at Byron and spoke calmly, "Mr. Reyes, I'm confident I can wake her up."
"What? You can wake her up?" Byron trembled with excitement, grabbing James' hand and shouting, "You can really wake Matilda up?"
James nodded. "Yes, but it will take some time."
"You're just boasting. Matilda has been asleep for over six months. To put it bluntly, she's in a vegetative state." Dean scoffed at James. "A problem that the whole world can't solve, and you say you can cure it?"
James spoke firmly, "I'm also a doctor, and I stand by my words."
"A doctor? Self-taught, what kind of doctor is that?" Dean sneered, "You're just deceiving the public and unable to cure anything."
James ignored him and asked Byron, "Mr. Reyes, may I ask, did you take Matilda to an altar or cemetery six months ago?"
Byron was taken aback. "Six months ago?"
James reminded him, "Just a few days before Matilda fell ill."
"Yes, yes, I took her to visit the graves." Byron pointed out the window. "I was born in Glowing Oasis, and our family graves are there. Six months ago, I returned to Celestia and took Matilda with me."
James pressed on, "Could you tell me the location of the family graves?"
Byron was stunned. "The location of the graves? What does that have to do with Matilda's illness?"
"Absurd, utterly absurd, linking a vegetative state to family graves." Dean couldn't help but shout, "You're just a charlatan, a fraud."
"Mr. Reyes, you should get rid of this fraud immediately." He instinctively reached out to push James. "Get out, get out of here."
James blocked him. "You seem very reluctant for Matilda to recover, don't you?"
Byron's gaze sharpened instantly.
"You—" Dean's eyelid twitched. "Don't slander me. Of course, I want Matilda to get better. I just don't want Mr. Reyes to be deceived by you."
"Even if I'm a fraud, given Matilda's current situation, shouldn't we at least try?" James' voice turned cold. "Is there a worse outcome than this?"
"Enough of this nonsense." Dean changed the subject. "Mr. Reyes, Matilda needs to rest and recuperate. Don't let any random people interfere, or her condition will worsen."
"I've done my best to stabilize Matilda's condition. If you let this fraud take over, I won't be responsible for any problems."
He issued a warning. "I don't want my efforts to go to waste."
James suddenly asked, "Are you from the Blood Medical Sect?"
Byron and Olivia both looked at Dean upon hearing his words.
Dean's body stiffened. "What Blood Medical Sect? I don't know what you're talking about. Stop trying to create a scene. It's pointless."
James' gaze turned cold. "If you're not from the Blood Medical Sect, why do you have their scent?"
Rowan and Delilah's cherry blossom scent had made James sensitive to such smells. When he passed Dean, he caught a whiff.
Now that Dean was angry, the scent became stronger.
Delilah had mentioned that this scent was unique to their tattoo patterns.
It not only helped the Blood Medical Sect manage their members but also allowed them to recognize each other easily, avoiding internal conflicts.
Of course, the scent was faint, only detectable by those specially trained. James being able to smell it was a miracle.
"I don't know what you're talking about." Hearing James mention the scent, Dean became more defensive. "Exposed as a fraud, you resort to spouting nonsense?"
"Nonsense?" Olivia laughed. "Didn't you graduate from Eastern Medical School? The Blood Medical Sect is so famous in Lumaria, and you don't know about it?"
Byron's face turned completely cold.
James crossed his arms. "Members of the Blood Medical Sect usually have a black cherry blossom tattoo. Why don't you take off your shirt and show us?"
"Absurd! Ridiculous! Childish!" Dean was furious, pointing at James and cursing before turning to Byron. "Mr. Reyes, if you allow them to slander me like this, I'm sorry, but I can't treat Matilda anymore. Goodbye!"
With that, he stormed out, slamming the door behind him.
He had barely taken a few steps when he heard a loud crash, and the wall burst open.
Amidst the flying debris, a large hand grabbed his collar.
Byron's voice was cold. "Did I say you could leave?"
