Chapter 43 A Call from Thousand Treasures Corporation
Alice was furious.
Why was James causing trouble here?
Addison also glanced at James, then waved him away. "Alright. Don't you have anything better to do? Don't mess around here. We're busy."
"Remember to cook something nice for dinner."
James had no choice but to keep silent.
Alice said, "Addison, Charles, you must help us."
"Among all our relatives, you two are the most capable. If you don't help, Lydia really has no way out."
Seeing Charles and his wife's troubled expressions, Alice's face turned sour. "Can you really bear to see Lydia jobless, idling away at home and depending on her parents?"
Lydia added sarcastically, "Aunt Addison, you can't drop the ball at a critical moment like this."
James shook his head; no wonder no hospital wanted Lydia.
At that moment, Mary came over. "Auntie Alice, does Lydia want to get into Thousand Treasures Corporation?"
"I almost forgot about Mary. Mary is a CEO, and she knows quite a few people." Alice smacked her forehead, her anger turning into a breezy smile, then stood up and pulled Mary to sit down. "Mary, come, do your cousin a small favor."
She briefly explained the situation, then pointed at Lydia, who was not very capable.
"If you don't help Lydia, her life is ruined." Alice's gaze was piercing. "Mary, you're not ruthless, right?"
After listening, Mary helplessly explained, "Auntie Alice, Lydia, I really can't help with this."
"Raymond is approachable, but we only have a nodding acquaintance with him, no close relationship."
"Moreover, every year, there are too many people trying to get into Thousand Treasures Corporation, many of whom have strong backgrounds. Raymond hasn't even made exceptions for them."
"What do we have to offer to pull strings?"
"Of course, I can try making a phone call later."
Mary didn't pretend to be more than she was, preparing Alice for disappointment.
However, Alice's face fell upon hearing this. They were here to solve problems, not to discuss difficulties.
She said, "What do you mean no close relationship?"
"You all boast all the time, but when it's crunch time, there's no relationship?"
Alice tore off the pretense. "You just don't want to help, right?"
Lydia stirred the pot. "Mom, I told you, don't come here. Without money or power, who would acknowledge you as a relative?"
Addison's face darkened. "Alice, Lydia, how can you talk like that? It's not that we don't want to help, but we really can't!"
Charles nodded in agreement. "Thousand Treasures Corporation is very strict. It's either strong capabilities or solid backgrounds."
"How can you not help? Have you ever tried? Have you begged anyone or given any gifts? You haven't done anything, and you say you can't help." Alice argued forcefully. "Is this how you help someone?"
"If not for seeing you as relatives, I wouldn't even want your help," she lashed out, "I've humbled myself to ask you, and I've even begged you, but this is what you do."
Addison was furious. "You are heartless."
"Actually..." Just as the argument was about to escalate, Mary suddenly looked towards James. "James could actually help."
She was reluctant to have James use Olivia's connection, but seeing Alice like this, she felt compelled to have James owe Olivia a favor.
"James?" Alice grew even angrier. "Mary, are you joking? Who doesn't know that your James is useless."
"If you don't want to help, just say it."
"At one moment, you say your words carry no weight, and the next, you use James as a shield. What's the point of this? We're not stupid!"
During this speech, Alice was thoroughly enraged.
In her view, the Smith family was just brushing them off.
Even she knew that James, the son-in-law, was a loser. If the Smith family said James could help, they were treating her and Lydia like fools.
At this moment, Addison also realized. "Mary didn't mean that..."
Alice, furious, shouted, "You have prospered, and you look down on us poor relatives. If you don't want to help, say it outright. What's the big deal?"
If James could help them, then pigs might fly.
"Lydia, you're right. No money, no power, no relatives," Alice snorted, "To get rid of us, even James is dragged into this."
Lydia tugged at her mother's sleeve. "Mom, let's go. They'll probably want to disinfect the sofa we sat on soon. Let's not bother them anymore."
Her sarcasm was sharper than Addison's, infuriating Charles and Addison.
Mary hurriedly clarified, "Auntie Alice, I'm not fooling you."
"It just dawned on me that James happens to know someone. He's on good terms with Olivia."
"Olivia is on good terms with Raymond. If she mediates, the issue will definitely be resolved."
Addison also suppressed her anger and nodded. "Yes, James knows Olivia."
She remembered James had once saved Olivia's daughter's life.
Olivia was willing to give James a ginseng fruit worth three million dollars; making a call to Raymond should not be difficult.
"Enough boasting! What's the point?" Alice laughed out of sheer anger. "James knows Olivia Lee? Well, then I know Aaron Collins."
"The Smith family has only recently prospered, but how could all of you become so cold-hearted?"
"Not only do you not help, but you also come up with a bunch of absurd excuses to brush us off. I'm really disappointed."
"If you really look down on us, just say it. From now on, we won't come anymore."
Alice gathered her things, preparing to leave with Lydia.
Addison was so angry that she felt like exploding.
Mary saw Addison's face turning red and hurried over to advise her not to get angry.
Addison grabbed James by the sleeve. "James, call Olivia and ask her to help."
She had to vent today's frustration, or she wouldn't be able to sleep tonight.
"This little matter doesn't need Olivia." James pulled out his phone with a calm smile. "I'll just have my maid... no, a friend help."
He then made a call to Taylor.
Before long, he hung up and addressed Alice and Lydia, "It's settled."
"Keep bragging. Let's see how long you can keep this up." Alice packed up noisily, still looking disdainfully at James and the others.
She added, "What worthless relatives. In today's society, kinship is so shallow."
"Lydia, let's go. This is not a place for us."
Alice, carrying her box, called Lydia to leave, "High society, we can't climb that high."
Just then, Lydia's phone vibrated.
She looked at it, astonished. "Mom, it's a call from Thousand Treasures Corporation..."
