Chapter 358 Prodigal

Coralie really didn't want to help James find a job; she felt he would embarrass her at any moment.

But she didn't want to see Marigold and Bruce argue over it, so she stepped in to solve the problem.

"He'll start from the bottom, making three to five thousand dollars a month. But don't worry, with me looking out for him, he'll grow quickly and get plenty of support."

"I guarantee that within a year, he'll be making over ten thousand dollars a month."

Coralie looked at James with a proud expression. "Come with me to Wish Group on Monday."

James chuckled to himself. If Coralie knew he was the largest shareholder of Wish Group, how would she react?

Bruce was slightly taken aback. "Wish Group? Coralie, can you manage that?"

Marigold quickly chimed in, "Coralie, you just got the job yourself. Can you handle bringing in someone else?"

Coralie was full of confidence. "I'm an assistant manager. Hiring a junior employee is a piece of cake, especially with Vance's support."

"This is a good plan." Seeing Coralie so confident and that James wouldn't be working at Bruce's company, Marigold finally agreed to the arrangement.

Marigold turned to James. "James, aren't you going to thank Coralie?"

"Wish Group is a big company. Getting in there could change your life and make your parents proud. It's something to brag about."

"But let me remind you, don't embarrass Coralie or cause her any trouble."

In Marigold's eyes, without Coralie's help, James would never get a job at such a prestigious company. Becoming an employee at Wish Group was nothing short of a miracle.

Bruce also nodded slightly. "James, this is a good opportunity. Why don't you give it a try?"

James hesitated for a moment, then stood up and smiled. "Alright, I'll give Wish Group a try."

He agreed not only to ease Bruce's worries but also to get a closer look at the internal issues of Wish Group, making it easier to address them in the future.

He smiled at Coralie. "Thanks, Coralie."

Coralie's lips curled into a mocking smile. Seeing James so happy, it was clear he had been waiting for Marigold and Bruce to find him a job. What a useless guy. How could she have ever thought of marrying him when they were kids?

"Alright, it's settled. Let's eat first." Bruce called James to the dining room. "We'll discuss the details after dinner."

"I made ribs, crab, and beef soup with the carrot you brought. All good stuff."

Marigold sneered at James. "You can open your eyes tonight and maybe post something on Facebook to show off."

James was startled. "What? Carrot? In the beef soup?"

He remembered the ginseng he had brought. He hadn't mentioned it because he thought Bruce's family would recognize it. Who knew they would actually cook it like a regular carrot?

"Why are you so surprised? What else would we cook it with?" Marigold scoffed at James' reaction. "That carrot was old and tough to cut. I didn't even want it."

"If it weren't for Bruce, I would have thrown it in the trash."

"Look at you, bringing such small grapes. They don't even look appetizing. Washing them is already giving you face."

Marigold tossed the grapes James had brought onto the table. Though they were plump, they were small, probably worth no more than ten dollars a pound.

Coralie had initially wanted to try them, but seeing Marigold's disdain, she flicked them into the trash can.

Ten-dollar-a-pound grapes weren't worthy of her taste.

"What are you doing?" Bruce couldn't hold back. "Let's eat!"

Just then, James' phone rang. He answered it, and Kaida's panicked voice came through, "James, come quickly! Something's happened. Help!"

The Rivera family was indeed in trouble.

James' eyes twitched, and he rushed to the door. "Bruce, I have an emergency. I'll treat you all to dinner another day."

With that, James left as quickly as possible.

"What kind of attitude is that?" Marigold fumed, watching James bolt out the door.

"We're helping him, giving him food and a job, and he can't even show some gratitude. No wonder he's poor."

Coralie was also disappointed. James was insecure and sensitive. A man like that would never succeed. Compared to the Little Doctor of Rosewood City, he was nothing.

Bruce texted James to ask what was going on. "Shut up. James probably has something urgent."

"Something urgent?" Marigold laughed angrily. "What could he possibly have that's urgent?"

"I'm telling you, don't try to set him up with Coralie again, and don't let him come to our house, or I'll be done with you."

"These grapes are annoying. Throw them out for the birds."

Marigold tossed the plate of grapes out the door, scattering them down the steps.

"Did you win the lottery or find some money? Why are you throwing grapes around?"

At that moment, an elderly couple in their sixties walked up. Their hair was white, but they were energetic and stood tall.

The woman scolded as she looked at the grapes on the ground. Suddenly, she froze, shocked.

"Agate grapes?"

The next second, she bent down, picked up a grape, and tasted it. She was ecstatic.

"These are agate grapes! They really are agate grapes!"

Coralie immediately called out, "Grandpa, Grandma."

It was Marigold's parents, Ian and Yara Walsh.

Yara ignored her, continuing to pick up the grapes.

Marigold rushed over, knocking the grapes out of Yara's hands and stomping on them.

"Mom, why are you eating these cheap grapes? I'll buy you thirty-dollar-a-pound grapes."

Seeing Marigold stomp on the grapes, Yara was furious. She slapped Marigold and shouted.

"Don't touch them!"

"These are agate grapes, also known as golden grapes. They come from abroad, taste amazing, and have anti-aging properties. They're three thousand dollars a pound."

"You threw them on the ground and stomped on them? What a waste!"

Marigold's family was stunned. "What? These grapes cost three thousand dollars a pound?"

Yara was livid. "I had them at Mr. Rivera's party. Do you think I'd lie to you?"

At three thousand dollars a pound, there were at least five pounds here. Nearly twenty thousand dollars wasted. Marigold felt a sudden pain in her heart.

"Did I smell Ginseng?" Ian sniffed the air, then rushed to the dining table, lifted the lid, and pulled out the carrot, shouting.

"Who did this? Who did this?"

"Five-hundred-year-old ginseng used to cook beef? Are you out of your mind?"

Ian was heartbroken. "It's worth ten million dollars! You just cooked it all?!"

That carrot was five-hundred-year-old ginseng?

Worth ten million dollars?

Marigold's family was stunned again. "How is that possible?"

Coralie couldn't believe it. "How could James afford such an expensive gift?"

"What's impossible?"

"I've worked in a museum for years. I can tell if an antique is real with one look. Do you think I can't recognize ginseng?"

"What a waste!"

Ian stomped his foot, looking at the pot of beef and ginseng. "It's ruined, ruined!"

Marigold took a bite, her body shook, and she fainted.
