Chapter 267 Blind Date?

The river settled down quickly, with just a faint trace of blood spreading out.

The usually bustling bridge was eerily quiet, with hundreds of people staring at the now calm river.

Even the wind seemed to have taken a break.

Thirty seconds passed.

Then a minute.

Two minutes.

James had been underwater way too long, way past what any normal person could handle. The crowd's faces started to turn pale.

Another minute ticked by, and everything stayed still until a wistful sigh rippled through the crowd.

Despair started to creep onto many faces. Three minutes without air—no one, not even a god, could survive that long underwater.

James must've run into trouble, maybe got stuck in the car or caught in the rocks while trying to save Mya, and then drowned.

Thinking about James's selfless dive, a few women had raised their hands to wipe their teary eyes. They couldn't be heroes, but they sure knew one when they saw one.

The woman in the long dress leaned over the edge of the deck, her face pale, biting her lip to keep from crying out.

Her tears were a mix of sadness, pain, and endless regret.

Her selfishness had cost a good man his life.

In the distance, sirens wailed as police cars and fire trucks arrived.

A rescue boat was also making its way to the river.

Five minutes had passed.

James was surely gone.

The whole place was silent, everyone mourning for James.

"The unidentified man has been underwater for five minutes. This is his third dive to save someone. With such a strong current, such a deep river, and such a long time, he probably won't make it back," a social media reporter said, live-streaming with his phone, a hint of regret in his voice. "Let's pay tribute to this unnamed hero!"

Just then, there was a loud splash, and a figure broke through the water's surface.

Most of his body emerged, and his face came into view.

Though he was covered in wounds and his face was as pale as a ghost, everyone recognized him instantly.

It was the unnamed hero.

In his arms, he was holding a little girl tightly.

Mya's mouth was trembling, but she was alive.

"He's out!" The crowd erupted in a thunderous cheer.

People hugged each other, clapped, and celebrated!

The joy was so immense that the entire bridge seemed to tremble slightly.

"Thank you!" The woman in the long dress burst into tears, rushing over to hug Mya and James.

She couldn't control herself and kissed James hard on the forehead.

James, having used up all his strength and given all the white light of the Life Gem to Mya, immediately collapsed into the woman's arms.

It was soft, smooth, with a natural fragrance that felt familiar, like something from a distant memory.

Before James passed out, his last glimpse was of Scott personally leading the officers to the scene.

When James woke up, it was already the next morning.

The sky was dark, and it was drizzling. James sat up in bed, seeing his body covered in ointment and bandages, and checked himself over.

He found that aside from some external injuries and a cold, he was fine.

James stretched and got out of bed, realizing he was in an unfamiliar place.

This wasn't a hospital, nor the JZL Medical Clinic, but a club with the Red Maple logo.

"Sir, you're awake?" As James curiously looked around, there was a knock on the door, and Scott walked in with a smile. "I'll call the doctor to check on you."

"No need," James waved his hand. "I've checked myself over. I'm fine, just need some rest. Where is this place?"

"This is the Red Maple Club, a spot for the elite of Stardust City," Scott explained respectfully. "It's not a big place, but the security and privacy are top-notch."

"I was going to take you to the hospital, but Mrs. Garcia insisted you come here. She wanted to make sure you were safe and sound," Scott smiled. "She even had Bryan and the others treat you."

"Mrs. Garcia?" James recalled the woman in the long dress and asked curiously, "What's her story?"

Scott instinctively glanced at the door. "She's a significant figure from Stardust City. She came to Rosewood City to pay respects to her late family, but her car was hit and fell into the river. Luckily, you saved her, or it would have been three lives lost."

Then he changed the subject. "But if you want to know more, it's better to ask her yourself. She wanted to be here when you woke up, but she went to the church to pray and will be back by noon."

James squinted slightly, thinking that the woman in the long dress must have a significant background, making Scott hesitant to discuss it in front of him.

But James didn't push it further. He was just curious about her background and had no intention of making connections.

"Alright, I get it. Where are my clothes?" James touched his stomach. "I'm starving, I need to go out and eat."

Seeing James's nonchalant attitude, Scott stepped forward and grabbed James's hand. "Stay a bit longer, wait for Mrs. Garcia to return."

James was slightly taken aback. "No need, I didn't save people for a reward."

"Mrs. Garcia is someone many people dream of connecting with," Scott lowered his voice. "If you build a good relationship with her, you won't just be the president of Rosewood City, you could have influence across the entire country."

"Scott, I know she's not a nobody," James smiled. "But there's no need to deliberately make connections."

"I jumped in three times, but not even once I did for a reward." He patted Scott's arm. "Or rather, if I were that kind of person, would you still sincerely call me brother?"

Scott was stunned, then laughed heartily, convinced. "You've enlightened me, I was being shallow."

James had earned the respect of Aaron and the others and had become the president of Sky Peak Club not just because of his martial arts and medical skills, but because of his character.

He valued loyalty and a clear conscience; everything else was secondary.

Fifteen minutes later, James walked out of the room and found himself in a courtyard.

There was a five-bedroom, two-living-room setup, surrounded by bamboo, with misty rain and a cold wind, giving the place a poetic feel.

He didn't linger to admire it, grabbed an umbrella, and left the courtyard, walking through the club's lobby towards the exit.

He planned to go back to the JZL Medical Clinic for breakfast.

As he passed through the lobby, James glanced at the restaurant and saw several familiar faces.

They were Addison, Charles, Reese, Keith, and Mary.

Addison and the others were all smiles, Keith's eyes were shining, but Mary's face was cold.

James was slightly surprised to see them.

Then he remembered that Mary had mentioned Addison had arranged a blind date for her.

James turned and walked over!
