Chapter 295 Bashful Flower Endorsement
Upon hearing Mary's words, Benjamin looked very displeased, "We are the ones involved, not public figures. If people find out we have money and are still crowdfunding, it's easy for netizens to scold us. Our reputation will be damaged, and we might even lose our jobs."
He looked disgusted, "The cyberbullying nowadays is terrifying."
Mary let out a bitter laugh, "If the crowdfunding is found to be false, I'll get scolded too."
"How are you the same as us?" Sierra sneered, "You're just an ordinary person. If you get scolded, so what?"
Mary shook her head and refused, "Sorry, I can't help."
"Mary, you've really disappointed me." Benjamin's face completely changed. "Are you going to ignore us?"
Mary's face turned pale. This was turning into her fault. How could they be so shameless?
Sierra impatiently shouted, "Mary, are you helping or not? If not, get out. Plenty of kind people will help us."
"Sorry, I can't help with this." Mary stood up and handed over a black bag, "This is the donation from everyone, a total of $20,000. There's a list and donation record inside. You can check it when you have time."
She added, "Benjamin, the $300 shows something of my cocern."
Benjamin looked disdainful, "How could you even bring that out? A bunch of classmates gave $500 each."
"I don't have much cash on hand." Mary instinctively explained. "I just used cash to buy something for my dad this afternoon."
"You're such a good classmate, using my medical money to buy things for your dad?" Benjamin was furious. "I really misjudged you."
"I treated you as an old classmate and even had Sierra invite Philadelphia actress Mandy Foster to collaborate with your company to help you out. Now it seems all of that was unnecessary." He impatiently shouted at Mary. "Get out, get out of my sight! Don't contact me again."
He thought Mary would unconditionally cooperate with the crowdfunding or give him tens of thousands of dollars to curry favor. Who knew she would refuse and only give $300?
Benjamin was really angry.
Sierra also cursed, then rudely pushed Mary and James out the door and closed it.
Of course, they snatched the $300.
"She is just a family outcast, can't even come up with $500. Don't bother with her. We won't associate with such stingy classmates in the future. Let's quickly find other classmates to crowdfund. Our son's kindergarten tuition is due, and I have to host Mandy tomorrow."Inside, Benjamin and Sierra counted the money while cursing, treating Mary as someone blocking their financial path.
Outside, Mary tightly gripped the door handle, her face was pale.
She never expected Benjamin and his wife to be so shameless.
Seeing Mary sulking, James stepped forward to comfort her.
Seeing that Mary had no appetite for dinner, James took her to Katherine's office for a while and had some desserts.
Half an hour later, James and Mary came out of the office and happened to see a group of people entering the conference room at the end of the hall.
There were media, volunteers, caregivers, Benjamin and his wife.
Obviously, Benjamin had gathered a group of people to put on a show.
Mary's face changed slightly, "It seems they still want to crowdfund. They really have no bottom line."
"Indeed shameless." James looked at the conference room and smiled."Come on, let's go take a look."
Seeing Mary was unhappy, James decided to teach Benjamin and his wife a lesson.
"Forget it, let him do what he wants. I can only manage myself, not him." Mary rubbed her head and replied. "After all, he does have cancer and a broken leg."
James smiled without saying anything, just pulling Mary to the conference room.
The conference room had already gathered more than twenty people. Besides Benjamin and his wife, there were a few tabloid reporters, live-streaming media, and friends.
Benjamin and his wife cooperated seamlessly.
Benjamin tearfully complained about his severe illness, saying that if he fell, the family would fall.
Sierra didn't speak, just showing medical records and diagnosis papers, and even brought out other people's late-stage symptoms to gain sympathy.
For a moment, a sad atmosphere filled the room.
"Even more unfortunate, besides having nasopharyngeal cancer, I also broke my right leg. If my leg wasn't broken, I could still work hard and earn more money to support my family before cancer takes my life." Benjamin cried.. "In this state, I can't do anything."
Not only were the uninformed onlookers and media moved, but even Mary, who knew their income, felt more sympathy after hearing this.
Sierra also wiped her tears, "Yes, his leg broke at the worst time."
"Benjamin." At this moment, James stepped forward and shouted.
Benjamin instinctively looked up.
James grabbed a hot water kettle from the conference room and threw it.
The kettle flew towards Benjamin.
Benjamin shivered and reflexively pushed the wheelchair away, jumping out.
He was crisp and decisive, without hesitation.
The kettle hit the ground and exploded, hot water splashing everywhere. Benjamin jumped a few more feet away.
"Bastard, how dare you throw water kettle at me?" Benjamin was furious, stepping forward and pointing at James, cursing, "Do you believe I'll kick you to death…"
Before he could finish, he stopped. He realized he had exposed himself.
Everyone in the room stared at Benjamin, their eyes sharp.
"Liar, you're a liar." Mary suddenly shouted at Benjamin. "You're a heartless liar."
Everyone else also realized and became indignant.
"Everyone, listen to me. I really have nasopharyngeal cancer, and my leg was broken…" Benjamin frantically explained, but halfway through, he was interrupted by the angry crowd.
More than twenty people rushed forward, punching and kicking the couple. They hated people who exploited others' goodwill.
"Mary, Mary, I won't let you off." Benjamin and his wife ran around with their heads covered, shouting threats at Mary and the others, but it was useless. They were soon knocked down and beaten.
No one believed them anymore.
James pulled Mary away with a smile.
Outside, as James got into the car, he heard his phone vibrating.
He put on his headset to answer, and soon Kelsey's sweet voice came through, "James, are you free tomorrow? We've hired Mandy to shoot the Bashful Flower endorsement. Come to the company to oversee it."
