Chapter 83 Bryan

A fatal stone.

James walked up to Barbie, who was still breathing. She stared at James, her gaze fixed.

Barbie asked, "What kind of person are you?"

She never expected James to be this powerful.

James picked up her dagger and asked, "Do you have any last words?"

Barbie coughed up blood and died.

Her eyes never closed.

Upon her death, a black Dark Magic creature quickly emerged from her nostrils. James, with a swift backhand, sliced it in half.

"James, you killed Barbie! How dare you? Are you intending to defy the Aurora Alliance?" Not far away, three enemies glared at James with fierce expressions.

"Our Aurora Alliance will definitely..." Before they could finish, James snapped the dagger into three pieces.

In the next second, the dagger shot out.

The three instinctively tried to block it, but they were a moment too late. They watched helplessly as the dagger killed them.

Blood splattered everywhere.

James didn't even glance at them. He walked over to Jacob to tend to his wounds.

Lying on the ground, Jacob was in a daze, unable to believe what he had just witnessed.

Although he was aware of James's strength, he still couldn't believe how easily James had killed Barbie, as if chopping vegetables.

After all, Barbie was one of the three girls trained by Bryan. She was a top-notch agent.

James ignored Jacob's thoughts, dug out the poisoned bullet from his body, and used a silver needle to prick a few points.

A stream of black blood flowed out.

James then reset Jacob's dislocated arm and casually patted his shoulder.

James said, "The bleeding has stopped, and the poison has been expelled. I'll give you a prescription later. Rest and recuperate for a few days, and you'll be fine."

What?

Jacob was somewhat taken aback. He thought, "Has my bleeding really stopped? Has the poison truly been expelled? This can't be real."

With his years of experience in the underworld, he knew his injuries would take at least three to five months to heal.

But as he watched his wound slowly close and his bullet-ridden arm regain mobility, he realized James was telling the truth.

He was astounded.

Such skills were beyond human capability!

This was ten times more impressive than when James treated Jared.

James wasn't just a great doctor. He was practically a god.

Jacob's eyes sparkled. He had always respected James, but now he genuinely wanted to befriend him.

James's dual expertise in medicine and combat saved Jacob's life and made him see his immense future value.

Struggling to his feet, Jacob stated, "James, I'm appreciated. If there's a time when you need assistance, just let me know."

"It's no big deal." In a casual tone, James asked, "It was just a simple act of kindness. Now, do you want to have someone fetch you, or are you coming with me?"

"I'll come with you. I'll come with you." Jacob cast a wary look around. "This is no ordinary place. It's the Top Hazardous Ground of Rosewood City, the Cloud Top Mountain."

Jacob would have never chosen to come here if he hadn't backed into a corner.

James exhibited a hint of curiosity and asked, "Top Hazardous Ground? What does that mean?"

"Cloud Top Mountain is a cursed place. And the western side of Cloud Top Mountain is even more dangerous. The Smith family once started construction here, building thirty-six villas. When they were about to sell them, they discovered corpses in the basements. Each of the thirty-six villas had a coffin in the basement, and each coffin contained a red-dress woman." Jacob whispered to James, then shivered. "James, let's go. Let's go. It's getting dark."

Before he could finish, he noticed James had already bolted like a rabbit.

Jacob hurriedly endured the pain and followed.

The night quickly enveloped Cloud Top Mountain.

On the way back, James disinfected Jacob's wounds and then asked, "What exactly happened tonight?"

His gaze held a hint of bewilderment as he questioned, "Who was Barbie working for?"

"Nine years ago, a man named Bryan came to Rosewood City to expand his influence." Jacob didn't hide anything from James. "He was highly skilled, well-funded, and had a number of desperados under his command. At first, he played by the rules and sought help in his business dealings, but once he gained a foothold, he began to act recklessly. He seized properties by force, fully developed gambling and black markets, bribed officials without scruples, and even incited his subordinates to establish a drug empire."

Jacob added, "During those three years, countless families in Rosewood City were ruined, and both the legal and underground orders were in chaos. Many wealthy individuals and companies moved to other cities. Christopher, Raymond, and Olivia couldn't tolerate it any longer, so they united to take down the Bennett Group. Bryan went from being a Mighty Leader to a prisoner overnight, with only a dozen of his five thousand followers remaining."

Jacob continued, "But on the day of his trial, Bryan's prison van was hijacked, and he disappeared without a trace. For six years, there was no sign of him in all of Rosewood City."

"We were almost ready to forget him, but then he announced his return." Jacob let out a bitter laugh. "Rumor has it that this time, he wants to settle old scores with interest. He's also recruited ruthless individuals like the Bell siblings."

James asked, clearly intrigued. "Given your usual style, isn't a trial superfluous? Just finish him off with a single stroke."

"James, if Christopher and Raymond could kill him outright, they wouldn't have let him wreak havoc for two years." Jacob exhaled deeply. "Bryan has someone powerful backing him, which is why he was able to make such a dramatic entrance."

"We didn't want a trial either, but we had no choice. Someone was protecting him, and we needed solid evidence to convict him. We couldn't just take the law into our own hands."

James pondered. "For you to be so cautious, the person behind him must be quite formidable."

"Definitely, but that's not important because we don't have the power to take down the mastermind."

Jacob leaned back in his seat. "The urgent task is to find Bryan and eliminate him quickly, or we'll never have peace. Attacking Olivia and I were is just his way of playing cat and mouse, wanting to see us live in constant fear."

Jacob understood Bryan to some extent. Rather than killing them outright, Bryan preferred to see Rosewood City descend into chaos.

James sighed at his words. "Being a doctor is still the best choice for me."

Society was too vast and too dangerous.

Jacob laughed heartily. "The problem is, in that environment, you might not be able to act according to your wishes."

James didn't argue. If Olivia were in trouble, he probably wouldn't be able to stand by and do nothing.

He rubbed his head, deciding not to think about it anymore. "Jacob, do you want to go back to SH Corporation or the hospital?"

"Take me to Imperial Tower." Jacob sat up straight; he needed to see someone.

Half an hour later, the car arrived at Imperial Tower, an old landmark in Rosewood City that combined dining, lodging, and office spaces.

Seeing Jacob's exhaustion, James helped him into the elevator on the first floor.

He didn't go in with him. After pressing the elevator button for Jacob, he took Samuel to the Apollo Restaurant on the first floor.

James ordered two plates of steak and was about to order a bottle of wine when his eyes suddenly twitched.

His gaze locked onto a group of people.

Brian, Jennifer, and Donna.
