Chapter 76 Give Me an Explanation
Harold and Kyle turned on the lights and sat down at the table to personally interrogate James.
"Name?"
"Gender?"
"Where did the money come from to operate JZL Medical Hall?"
"How many days have you been practicing medicine illegally? Who are the patients you have treated? How much money have you swindled from them?"
The two of them fired questions at James in rapid succession, hoping to gather evidence against him as quickly as possible. However, James kept his eyes closed, not bothering to say a word.
They had publicly torn up his three qualification certificates. No matter how much he cooperated, it would only be detrimental to him. He might as well save his breath.
"Don't think that by staying silent, I can't do anything to you." Kyle slammed the table in anger. "Your attitude will only add to your crimes."
"James, we've already got a clear understanding of you," Harold said, putting on an air of superiority. "Giving you the chance to speak now is an opportunity for you to lessen your punishment. You'd better cooperate honestly, or else when your accomplices confess, you won't have the chance to get a lighter sentence. Not only will you, but also your family will suffer. Don't forget that you're a son-in-law who lives in your wife's family. If you cause this kind of trouble, you won't be able to explain it to them."
He used a combination of persuasion and intimidation to expose James's wrongdoings and mitigate the potential fallout from the public destruction of his three professional certificates.
James still did not respond.
"Bastard, what kind of attitude is this?" Kyle was furious."Do you believe I'll hit you?"
Just as Kyle grabbed a belt, the door was suddenly urgently knocked on, and then a subordinate pushed the door open and ran in.
Kyle frowned slightly. "Did his accomplices confess?"
The subordinate nodded quickly. "Mr. Kyle, we have identified the identities of James's accomplices."
"Good, tell us the situation. He seemed oblivious to the seriousness of the matter." Kyle's spirits lifted. "Now let him see clearly."
"Mr. Kyle," the subordinate interrupted Kyle's report. "The one digging the cesspool is named Troy, an idler from Crystal Avenue, with over thirty people under him."
Kyle squinted his eyes. "An idler? I didn't expect an idler to do hard labor. Interesting."
Despite his surprise, he didn't take it to heart, as an idler could still be controlled.
Kyle asked, "Does he have a criminal record? Has he committed any crimes?"
He tried to steer the conversation back to James. "What's his relationship with James?"
But the subordinate's next words shocked Kyle. "Troy has many criminal records, no recent crimes. But Troy is a third-level executive of SH Corporation and will enter the headquarters of the Chamber of Commerce in the second half of the year."
SH Corporation? Jacob?
Harold sat up straight.
Kyle's face also grew more serious."What about the identities of the other subordinates?"
"Subordinates?" The subordinate's scalp tingled. "The one fetching medicine is named Daniel, the grandson of HC TCM ClinicMark. The one laying bricks is named Stephen, the first young master of The Greens Group. The one delivering the food is named Jonathan, the general manager of WH GroupRosewood City. The one demolishing walls are named Jared, the chairman of The Sullivan Family Engineering Group."
Harold and Kyle's calm demeanor slowly shattered with the subordinate's report, their expressions becoming stiff and ugly.
At this moment, even a fool would know that James was extraordinary. The names mentioned were almost all prominent figures, at least wealthier than them.
However, these people were working as laborers at JZL Medical Clinic, which shocked Harold and Kyle.
"After they arrived here, their lawyers also gathered, demanding an explanation from us, Mr. Kyle, what should we do?" The subordinate who came to report asked anxiously, knowing that James was no ordinary person. Bringing him here so casually might lead to trouble.
"We haven't touched them, and we're just following the law. What are you afraid of?" Kyle feigned calmness and scolded the subordinate. The unexpected situations left him unsure of who James really was. He looked towards Harold, his sworn brother, and the instigator.
Harold frowned, thinking to himself, 'Isn't he supposed to be a live-in son-in-law? Which live-in son-in-law could afford to hire a billion-dollar-worth individual to do manual labor?'
"Are you starting to regret bringing me here now?" James sneered, staring at Harold and Kyle with a mocking tone. For him, the show was beginning.
"Don't think that knowing a few rich people will let you leave here safely. You've been practicing medicine illegally, and now that you're in our hands, no one can save you." Kyle couldn't stand James's contempt and taunts, slamming the table and shouting at him, "You'd better confess your crimes honestly."
Kyle was confident that with his status and position, as long as he didn't make a major mistake, a few rich people couldn't do anything to him.
James smiled faintly. "I haven't been practicing medicine illegally, and you know it."
Harold and Kyle were shocked to their core when they realized that James had all the necessary documents. They had brought him here entirely due to their own distortion of the facts.
"Mr. Kyle." As their eyelids twitched, another uniformed woman rushed in. "Just now, someone named David called, wanting to inquire about James. I refused, and he threatened to tear this place down if we touched James. I checked, and it seems this David's call came from the Department of Medicine."
Kyle frowned. "Who is this David?"
"What? David?" Harold first felt it sounded familiar, then he was startled and exclaimed, "Mr. Miller?"
Kyle was taken aback. "Which, Mr. Miller?"
Harold's face turned ashen. "The one who ranks third in Rosewood City official ranking and first in the medical department, Mr. Miller."
Kyle was greatly shocked. "What!"
David was not only the decision-maker of the Department of Medicine but also the third-ranking official in Rosewood City. His brother, Scott Miller, was the top police officer, and his father, Brandon Miller, was the mayor.
Offending Mr. David essentially meant the end of their official careers.
"It's impossible." Harold stared at James and shouted, "How could a small doctor have such connections?"
At that moment, the door was kicked open.
Harold and Kyle's hearts pounded as they hurriedly looked up to see a group of men and women with grim faces walking in.
The imposing David, accompanied by Scott, walked in with a murderous aura.
"Mr. Miller." Kyle and Harold quickly went to greet them. "Why are you here?"
David didn't even look at them, pushing them aside to grasp James's hand.
David said, "Mr. Williams, we meet again. Thank you for saving my life."
"Can you take a look at me today?" He nervously took out his Audi keys.
"Mr. Miller, I'm sorry, but the certificates issued by the Department of Medicine are invalid." James smiled lightly. "Treating you would be practicing medicine illegally, and I'd go to jail for that."
"Bastard!" Hearing this, David turned abruptly and kicked Harold and Kyle away. "No one gave you the power to act lawlessly."
David's voice was stern, filled with rage.
David said, "If you don't give me an explanation today, I'll give you a piece of my mind."
Harold and Kyle instantly crumbled.
