Chapter 230 Go on a Blind Date
James was totally stunned. His brain just shut down. He'd been with the Smith family for a year, and Mary hadn't even let him touch her toes. Now she was kissing him? This change was way too drastic!
It felt like a different Mary, but the tenderness was real.
"If you're gonna be so hesitant, I'll take the lead," Mary said, breaking the kiss and pinning James on the hospital bed. Her hair fell over his face, her warm breath teasing him.
As James focused on her face, a cruel smile flickered in her eyes. Her right hand reached for the bedside table, grabbing a fruit knife.
"James, don't ever leave me again," she whispered, then screamed and stabbed at him.
James quickly grabbed her wrist, his mind snapping into focus. "You're not Mary. Who are you?"
"Men are all scum. They should all die!" Mary screamed, switching the knife to her other hand and aiming for his neck.
James, shocked, threw her off. She hit the wardrobe hard, the knife flying from her hand.
"You're asking for it!" Mary laughed maniacally, charging at him again like a leopard.
Just as James was about to get up, she pounced, pinning him down and gripping his neck with surprising strength.
Her strength was ten times that of a normal person, and the murderous intent was palpable. James felt like he was about to be strangled. He could fight back but didn't want to hurt Mary.
He pulled out the unfinished General Jade. With a loud bang, Mary screamed in agony and was flung away, hitting the wall and sliding down.
As James rolled off the bed, Mary stood up again, but now her eyes showed fear.
"I underestimated you," James said, rubbing his sore neck. "I thought the last lesson would stop you. I didn't expect you to possess Mary. Today, I won't let you go."
Before the divorce, James had dispelled bad auras around Mary and placed talismans in her car and bag to warn off evil spirits. He never thought the spirit would influence her mind in just half a month.
"You abandoned your wife; you deserve a terrible death," Mary shouted.
James was speechless. "Enough nonsense!" he said, staring coldly at her. "You have two choices: tell me who's targeting Mary and leave, or I'll destroy you."
An evil spirit amulet was valuable, and the mastermind must have a deep grudge to make Mary wear it.
"Mary must die, and so must you," Mary screamed, grabbing the fruit knife and charging at James again.
James didn't waste any words, displaying the General Jade. It didn't harm humans but was devastating to evil spirits.
Under its light, the General Jade glowed blood-red, casting a reddish hue over the room.
James saw a red light shoot from the General Jade, forming a blade that struck Mary. She screamed, and a ghostly bald woman separated from her body, turning into a dark aura that tried to retreat into Mary's amulet.
James stepped forward, pressing the General Jade against Mary's chest. The amulet shattered into powder, and the dark aura was absorbed by the General Jade, accompanied by a desperate scream.
"I'll tell you, it was Jane Smith who plotted against Mary," the ghostly spirit pleaded before being completely absorbed.
The General Jade grew bloodier, and James's hand felt hotter. This heat made Mary's chest feel like it was burning, waking her up in pain.
Mary groggily opened her eyes to see James's hand on her chest, his face serious. "Bastard!" she instinctively slapped him.
James's cheek stung, and seeing his hand on her chest, his mind went blank again.
"James, what are you doing?" Mary demanded, furious and embarrassed.
"Mary, calm down!" James kept his hand on her chest, explaining, "You were possessed by an evil spirit, and I was exorcising it. Would you believe me?"
'Possessed by an evil spirit? In the 21st century? Clearly, you were just groping me!' Mary thought, angry and ready to scold him.
Just then, the door opened, and Charles and Addison walked in, shocked by the scene. The room was a mess, Mary's clothes were disheveled, and James's hand was on her chest.
"James, you bastard, what are you doing to Mary?" Addison shouted, pulling James away. "Charles, call the police and arrest this bastard."
Charles, looking disappointed, said, "James, you've really let us down."
James just smiled, looking at Mary.
"Dad, Mom, it's not like that," Mary suddenly stood up, protecting James. "James didn't sneak in to assault me."
"I called him over; I asked him to check on me."
"Check on you?" Addison was stunned. She wanted to ask more but remembered the last embarrassing incident and sneered, "Do you think I'll believe that?"
"Believe it or not, he was checking on me," Mary said impatiently. "James is highly skilled in medicine. I asked Kaitlyn to call him to check on me. If you want to call the police, then arrest me too. James, let's go have dinner."
She grabbed a coat and quickly pulled James out the door.
Watching them leave, Addison was furious. "You unfilial daughter."
"Alright, alright, don't get mad," Charles said, patting Addison's back. "Mary is grown up; you can't control her anymore."
"What do you know?" Addison snapped. "If they get involved, how will she go on the blind date next week?"
