Chapter 132 Poison Duel
"You bastard, it really is you." James curled his lips into a teasing smile. "I thought it was just someone with the same name, but it turns out it's really you, you old bastard."
"It's one thing to be greedy, but to repeatedly provoke JZL Medical Hall? Looks like you really don't want to stay in this business."
"If I had known, I would have had Mr. Thompson arrest you, saving me all this trouble today."
Alexander had some medical skills, but his character was far worse than Bradley and the others, so James didn't give Alexander any face.
"Stop making a fuss." Alexander's face darkened. "Let's cut the crap today. Just one thing: a medical duel."
"If you win, I'll give you Bright Heart Hall Clinic and leave Rosewood City."
"If I win, JZL Medical Hall is mine, and you leave Rosewood City."
Thinking about the one billion dollars slipping through his fingers and Alex and John being seriously injured, Alexander hated James to the core.
If it hadn't been for him ruining his plans, he would have taken one billion dollars to some overseas club to find young, beautiful models. Why would he need to sit in a clinic every day to make money?
"Fine, suits me perfectly." James waved his hand grandly. "I respect the elderly. How do you want to duel? You decide."
Hearing that the two were going to have a medical duel, Daniel and the others got excited, their curiosity drawing them closer.
"Comparing prescriptions, acupuncture, and saving lives is too conventional and boring." Alexander's old face lit up, just waiting for this moment. "Let's duel with poison directly."
"I happen to have two dogs here. We each pick one and then prepare a poison and an antidote on the spot."
"We'll each feed our poison to the other's dog. Whoever can save their dog wins. If both can neutralize the poison, we'll move on to the second round. How about that?"
Alexander looked at James provocatively and brought out two dogs brought out, looking confident.
James must have some medical skills. Otherwise, he wouldn't have recognized the Heaven-Defying Eighteen Needles at a glance. But Alexander believed James didn't understand poisons.
Daniel's expression changed. "Master, you mustn't. Alexander is likely a poison expert."
The pretty female doctor became smug. "What? Weren't you so tough just now? Why are you scared before the duel even starts?"
"Yeah, you came to cause trouble, and now you're afraid to compete in anything."
"Go back to JZL Medical Hall and stop embarrassing yourself."
Several of Alexander's disciples jeered.
"Let's do it!" James agreed readily, "But using dogs for a poison duel is too cruel and boring. Let's just take it ourselves."
"We'll each prepare a poison, exchange and drink it. Whoever can detoxify themselves wins."
He looked at Alexander with a smile. "Do you dare to accept the challenge?"
"What? Testing the poison on ourselves?"
"Oh my God, that's insane!"
"Yeah, what if the poison is deadly? Someone could die."
The onlookers were instantly in an uproar. Testing poison on themselves was shocking.
But no one stepped forward to stop them. Instead, they all took out their phones, hoping to capture a headline-worthy moment.
Daniel instinctively shouted, "Master."
James signaled him to stay calm, then looked at Alexander and asked, "Do you dare to fight?"
Alexander and his people looked grim. Although they were confident, the risk to their lives made them hesitate.
James added, "If you're afraid of dying, let's add a condition: no fatal poisons."
"The one who prepares the poison must also prepare the antidote. If the opponent surrenders, they must immediately administer the antidote. If anyone's poison kills the other, they go to jail."
James gave Alexander a chance to make up his mind.
"Fine, let's fight." Alexander slapped the table in agreement. "Today, in front of everyone, we'll prepare the poisons. It's either you or me."
Then, without further ado, he invited James behind the counter and pointed to a large row of cabinets, saying, "There are 360 types of common herbs here. Go ahead and use them."
His voice was cold. "If you don't know where to start, I'll give you half an hour to familiarize yourself and even assign you a pharmacist."
James waved his left hand. "I respect the elderly. You go first."
"Childish!" Alexander snorted, "Once I start, you won't even have a chance to act."
With that, he began moving around the cabinets, which were labeled with the names of the herbs. There were also dozens of low tables with dried herbs on them.
Poison-making and detoxification required speed, so there was no need to boil the herbs. Just crush them and mix them with warm water to make a bowl of poison.
The same went for the antidote.
This method is not only fast but also controls the potency, making it less likely to be fatal.
Alexander glanced at James, then quickly selected over a dozen herbs, turning his back to James to pick a few more.
Several of his disciples deliberately blocked James' view, preventing him from seeing what herbs Alexander was using.
Fifteen minutes later, Alexander had a bowl of powdered herbs. He mixed it with warm water, creating a strong-smelling, pitch-black concoction.
He proudly placed it in front of James and said, "Drink it."
James walked around the cabinets, casually naming herbs. "Alexander, your poison is really vicious."
"What?"
Everyone present was shocked.
"Mr. Williams can identify the poison just by smelling it?"
"That's incredible! Better than a dog's nose."
"That can't be true. Mr. Williams is just bluffing, playing mind games with Alexander."
"Don't listen to his nonsense. If he's right, I'll eat dirt on live stream."
Alexander's disciples were also skeptical, convinced that James was talking nonsense.
"How is that possible?" To everyone's surprise, Alexander's hand trembled, and he looked at James in disbelief. "How could you tell?"
Even after decades of making medicine, he couldn't identify herbs by smell alone, yet James had easily identified over a dozen.
The blow was too much.
Hearing Alexander's exclamation, everyone was even more shocked, their eyes nearly popping out.
They thought James was just bluffing, but he had actually identified all the herbs correctly. They stared at James in amazement.
Alexander's disciples exchanged worried glances, realizing they were up against a formidable opponent.
"I told you, I came to cause trouble. If I weren't better than you, wouldn't you just humiliate me?" James replied nonchalantly, then selected seven or eight herbs, slowly preparing them into a bowl of red poison.
He discreetly took a sip to taste it.
Then, James placed the bowl in front of Alexander with a smile. "I'm ready too."
"Let's do it." Alexander steeled himself. "After we each drink the other's poison, we'll turn around and prepare the antidote."
"Alright." Without hesitation, James picked up Alexander's black concoction and drank it down, leaving only the dregs.
Alexander also drank James' red concoction in one go.
The duel had everyone on edge.
