Chapter 228 Three Pointers
"Kill me with one hand?" James smirked at Ruby. "I seriously doubt it."
The girls around Ruby rolled their eyes, clearly unimpressed. They thought, 'This James guy has no idea who he's messing with. Just because he took down Larry with a stick, he thinks he's invincible. He doesn't realize Ruby's on a whole different level.'
Ruby was the top dog among the younger crowd in the Los Angeles Mystic Alliance, ranking first in combat and tenth out of 300,000 members. She was even tougher than Mia. James's cockiness was a death wish.
"You've really pissed me off," Ruby said coldly, her eyes full of disdain. "You're gonna regret this."
She stepped forward, ready to throw down.
"Ruby, don't be reckless," Mia shouted. "Larry's death isn't clear yet, and it has nothing to do with James."
"Shut up, loser!" Ruby snapped. "No one can save James today. I'm set on crippling him."
She had given James a chance to break his own hands, but since he refused, she had to make an example of him.
"Don't push it!" Mia's face darkened with anger. "This is Rosewood City, not Los Angeles. You can't just do whatever you want here."
Even though Mia lost to Ruby in last year's Mystic Alliance competition, being humiliated in public still stung.
"Richard can say that, but you can't, and neither can your father," Ruby sneered. "You're the best in Rosewood City, and I'm the best in Los Angeles, but your level is way below mine. Everyone knows the skills of Stardust City and Rosewood City disciples are mostly bought with money and pills, unlike us in Los Angeles."
This jab not only made Mia's face sour but also angered Bruce, as it discredited the efforts of the Rosewood City Mystic Alliance.
James ignored the trash talk and Ruby's taunts. He was more interested in the weapon used to kill Larry. He thought about heading to Harmony Care Hospital later to see if he could find the murder weapon.
Mia's face was dark with determination. "We're not letting you hurt James."
Ruby sneered at James. "Hiding behind a woman, huh?"
James shrugged. "Idiot."
"You're asking for it!" Ruby roared, spreading her arms wide.
Her aura shifted dramatically—her hair flared up, her energy surged, and even the air seemed to buzz as her nails grew longer. She looked fierce.
Scott was taken aback by Ruby's power. Bruce silently acknowledged her strength, thinking she might be at an intermediate level. Even he might not be able to beat her.
"Ruby's aura is intense."
"She might hit the advanced level in six months."
Her companions were in disbelief.
Seeing Ruby's intent to kill, Mia's face grew serious, but she stood her ground. As a Mystic Alliance member, she couldn't back down, even if outmatched.
Bruce shouted, "Don't fight!"
"Die!" Ruby ignored him and lunged forward, throwing a punch that whistled through the air.
Mia gritted her teeth and blocked James, determined to protect him as Richard had instructed. She crossed her arms to shield herself.
James snapped out of his thoughts, pulling Bruce back to watch the fight.
Ruby's fist collided with Mia's arms, creating a muffled explosion. Mia groaned, her limbs shaking as she was thrown back, twisting mid-air before landing. She was breathing heavily, blood spurting from her mouth and nose. With only half her strength recovered, she couldn't block Ruby.
Ruby, on the other hand, was unscathed and even fiercer.
"Mia, move, or I'll cripple you too," Ruby shouted. "Don't try to use the Mystic Alliance against me. We've left it."
Mia coughed. "President Green's death has nothing to do with James. Someone's trying to stir up trouble."
"Die!" Ruby ignored her, launching another attack at James, her momentum unstoppable.
Mia gritted her teeth and blocked again. Another collision sent her flying, but Bruce caught her just in time to prevent a fall.
Even so, Mia spat out a mouthful of thick blood. But she was stubborn. She wiped it away and stood up again.
"Mia, you're even more useless now. You used to take a few of my hits, but now you can't even handle one," Ruby taunted. "This is your last warning. Move, or I'll kill you."
The girls around looked at James with even more contempt, thinking he was a coward for hiding behind Mia.
Mia took a deep breath. "Bring it on."
"Alright, you're done for," Ruby sneered. "One move, I'll break your hand. Two moves, I'll break your leg. Three moves, I'll shatter your Energy Core. After that, you'll be a cripple. If your father intervenes, I'll cripple him too."
Bruce's face turned pale.
Just as he was about to step in, James walked up, patted Mia on the shoulder, and said, "Alright, do as she says. One move to break her hand. Two moves to break her leg. Three moves to shatter her Energy Core."
With James's pat, a surge of power flowed into Mia.
Everyone was stunned, unable to react.
James looked at Ruby with a playful grin. "Mia, three moves, cripple her!"
Ruby, Scott, and Bruce were in disbelief.
They wondered, 'Cripple Ruby in three moves? What a joke!'
Mia had been powerless against Ruby. How could she possibly turn the tables?
Ruby could easily cripple Mia, but Mia defeating Ruby in three moves seemed impossible.
Ruby and her companions smirked, thinking James was an idiot.
Even Mia was a bit stunned. But seeing James's calm eyes, she suddenly felt a surge of confidence. It was as if she really could defeat Ruby in three moves. Her fighting spirit ignited.
"Haha, you really don't know your limits!" Ruby's right hand shook, filled with eighty percent of her strength. A cruel smile appeared on her lips. "Courting death? Then go die."
Ruby didn't waste any more words. She flashed forward and punched toward Mia's head.
The force was immense! If that punch landed, it would definitely cause a head injury.
Mia's expression changed, her scalp tingling as she tried to dodge.
Just then, James's voice rang out. "Divine Buddha Salutation!"
Without thinking, Mia shifted her feet, clasped her hands together, and pressed down as if in prayer.
A sharp bone-cracking sound erupted.
Everyone's scalp tingled, and they were all stunned.
Ruby's fist was just a hair's breadth from Mia's forehead. But that tiny distance seemed like a chasm, impossible to close! Her wrist was caught in Mia's hand, twisted unnaturally.
Ruby's whole body trembled, staring in shock at her fair wrist. Her hand was broken!
Mia had dodged her charge, clasped her wrist, and pressed down, breaking it. It was fast, precise, and ruthless! Using the shortest distance and the shortest time, she countered and broke Ruby's wrist.
"How is this possible?" Ruby was in disbelief. Bruce and Scott were also shocked. They never expected Mia to actually break Ruby's hand. It was simply unbelievable!
Even Mia was stunned. She had just instinctively reacted to James's command, never dreaming she would actually succeed. One move, breaking a hand! Instantly, Mia was extremely excited.
"Die!" Ruby, furious beyond measure, broke free and kicked toward Mia's chest. It was fast and fierce.
"Eight Consecutive Strikes!" James casually called out another move.
Mia instantly reacted, pushing off the ground with her left foot, retreating eight steps, then lifting her right leg to counter Ruby's kick. As Ruby's attack ended, Mia suddenly lunged three steps forward and then swung her right leg to the side! A press. This move was extremely fast.
Ruby's toe was pinned by Mia's left foot, and just as she was about to pull back, Mia's right foot pressed down. Another cracking sound. Ruby's calf was forcibly broken. Ruby couldn't help but let out another scream.
Before anyone could react, James's third command rang out. "Celestial Dragon Strike."
Upon hearing this, Mia instantly retracted her leg, then her toe shot upwards. This kick was both fierce and swift, hitting Ruby's Energy Core directly.
"No!" Ruby's scalp exploded! She wanted to dodge, but it was too late! Her Energy Core shattered. All her strength dissipated instantly. The terror and horror in Ruby's eyes were frozen in an instant. Her face was full of despair.
