Chapter 354 Clifford
Gerald's wife, Marcella Shaw, was in trouble.
Kaida rushed to the Rivera Estate, and after a moment of thought, James decided to follow her.
After all, he had received a villa from them, so it was only right to go and see if he could help.
He left his Bugatti Veyron at the hotel and rode in Kaida's Audi.
Half an hour later, the Audi arrived at a mountain peak.
The Rivera Estate was situated on a mountain, surrounded by sycamore trees. The autumn wind rustled through the leaves, creating a soothing sound.
James immediately noticed that these sycamore trees were not native to the mountain but had been transplanted from elsewhere, indicating a significant effort.
"Mr. Rivera loves Mrs. Shaw deeply. Mrs. Shaw likes sycamore trees, so he planted an entire mountain of them for her."
"Mrs. Shaw also likes koi fish, so Mr. Rivera raised eight thousand koi fish."
"If you look from above with a drone, the sycamore trees form a heart, and the eight thousand koi fish form Cupid's arrow, embracing the entire Rivera Estate."
Seeing James scrutinize the sycamore trees, Kaida's face showed a hint of envy. "Mr. Rivera loves Mrs. Shaw to the core."
She didn't mention Gerald's deeper love, which was that despite Marcella being unable to have children, Mr. Rivera remained devoted to her.
James sighed sincerely, "That's quite romantic."
His wife liked sycamore trees, so Gerald planted an entire mountain of them. His wife liked koi fish, so he raised eight thousand of them. Gerald was truly a romantic.
James felt a growing fondness for him.
Then, he thought of Mary and the peach blossoms in their yard, feeling a pang of melancholy.
Kaida changed the subject, "The two of them are very much in love, and their days are warm and happy. But in the past six months, their health has been deteriorating."
"First, Mr. Rivera was accidentally affected by Gu Sorcery and sought medical help everywhere without improvement. If he hadn't met you on the high-speed train, he might not have made it."
"Mrs. Shaw, my adoptive mother, became lethargic a month ago, occasionally paranoid and screaming."
"Despite hospital treatment, her condition hasn't improved. She needs constant supervision, or she might get into trouble."
"She usually just has occasional mental lapses without harming anyone, but today she went berserk."
"She not only smashed half the hall but also chopped up two poodles with a kitchen knife."
Kaida's eyes showed worry. "I don't know what's causing this."
James didn't speak, just squinted at the mountain peak, noticing a dark aura enveloping the Rivera Estate.
Five minutes later, the Audi drove into the Rivera Estate and stopped in front of the main building. James followed Kaida out of the car.
He noticed that the lawn had seven or eight cars parked on it, along with two helicopters, indicating Gerald's wealth.
"Mr. Rivera is back?" Seeing the helicopters, Kaida was slightly surprised.
"He went to Stardust City yesterday. I thought he wouldn't be back for a couple of days, but he returned this morning."
She then led James into the hall, through several checkpoints, and into the backyard, where they quickly saw a small living room crowded with a dozen people.
The lampshades, antiques, coffee tables, and chairs were all shattered, with bloodstains on the floor and a kitchen knife in the corner.
Several bodyguards were bandaging wounds on their shoulders or wrists. It was clear that Mrs. Shaw had indeed gone mad.
"Mrs. Shaw, what's wrong?" Kaida pushed through the crowd. "What happened?"
"Keep your voice down, Marcella just fell asleep," snapped a pretty woman in her forties who had maintained her charm. "If you wake her up, you'll be responsible."
She was accompanied by several similarly elegant women, all adorned with jewelry.
"I'm just concerned about her condition," Kaida retorted. "Ingrid, don't make trouble."
From their conversation, James quickly deduced that this pretty woman was Marcella's sister and Gerald's sister-in-law, but Kaida didn't like her.
"Kaida, watch your tone," Gerald said as he came out with a few people. "Ingrid is your elder; you should be respectful."
Kaida lowered her head. "I understand."
Though she said she understood, she still resisted inwardly. She disliked Ingrid intensely.
Not only did Ingrid use her status as Gerald's sister-in-law to mingle with the elite, but she also had an unusual interest in Gerald, wanting to become the lady of the house.
If Gerald weren't so deeply in love with Marcella, Ingrid might have succeeded. So Kaida always opposed her.
Gerald then spoke to Ingrid. "You too, Kaida is just worried. You didn't need to scold her."
Ingrid's eyelids twitched, but she eventually nodded. "Understood, brother-in-law." She emphasized "brother-in-law," seemingly to remind everyone of her status.
"Gerald, how is Marcella?" Kaida didn't argue further, her eyes anxious. "By the way, Mr. Williams came with me."
"She's stable for now, no immediate danger. Oh, Mr. Williams is here?" Seeing James, Gerald's eyes lit up, and he stepped forward to shake James's hand firmly. "Thank you, thank you."
The handshake was strong, showing Gerald's appreciation for James.
James smiled. "Mr. Rivera, you're too kind. I'm just here to see if I can help."
"Mr. Williams? At his age, claiming to be a miracle doctor? More like a quack," Ingrid sneered. "He can't compare to Clifford."
"Shut up!" Gerald's face fell. "Mr. Williams cured my venom."
"Sorry, I didn't mean that," Ingrid quickly smiled apologetically. "I just thought he looked too young to be a miracle doctor. Besides, Marcella's condition isn't something an ordinary doctor can treat. Clifford said she was cursed. Only a demon hunter like him can handle it. This young man shouldn't be specialized in that."
Ingrid glanced disdainfully at James. Even if he was indeed a miracle doctor, could he exorcise demons? Her companions shared similar contempt, doubting James's ability to deal with curses.
"The patient is asleep, don't worry, she'll be fine," said a voice as the door suddenly opened, and an elderly man in a red suit stepped out. He had a goatee, held a rune stone, and carried a holy sword, looking every bit the demon hunter.
Compared to the empty-handed James, Clifford seemed more reliable.
As the door opened, Gerald and the others greeted Clifford, while James stepped forward, glanced at Marcella.
The moment he touched her forehead, his expression changed.
