Chapter 39

Although James only asked Taylor to be a maid for a year, Raymond still gave James a hundred million dollars as a reward.

Raymond had at least an eighty percent contribution to the success of Thousand Treasures Corporation.

He not only prevented the influx of counterfeit goods but also enhanced the group's reputation. His life and death were crucial to Thousand Treasures Corporation.

By saving him, James essentially saved Thousand Treasures Corporation, so Raymond felt compelled to reward James no matter what.

James couldn't refuse and had to accept the check.

Then, Mark also gave fifty million dollars, claiming it was a tuition fee.

James refused to accept it, but Mark insisted, even threatening to kneel if James didn't take it.

James, with a mixed feeling, accepted the money and then left with Olivia.

James asked Olivia to take him to the BH Bank to cash the checks and pay off the high-interest loans he owed.

On the way, James looked at Olivia in the driver's seat with gratitude and said, "Olivia, thank you for today."

"In half a day, I've made a hundred and fifty million dollars. If I hadn't slapped myself twice, I'd think I was dreaming."

"I'll split half the consultation fee with you as a referral fee for today."

James took out a check for fifty million dollars.

"What are you talking about?" Olivia slapped James's hand away and said, "I should be thanking you for helping out. Uncle Raymond's survival is very important to me."

"I can't take this fifty million dollars, and I owe you another favor."

Her smile was bright, she said with a hint of teasing, "You can ask for anything, including offering yourself."

"We're friends; forget about the check and the favor." James felt a warmth rush over him but quickly changed the subject. "Anyway, if there's anything you need in the future, just let me know, and I'll help as much as I can."

Olivia's finger traced James's chin. She said, "That's good."

"By the way, Olivia, I'm thinking of looking for a job. What do you think I should do?" James quickly shifted the topic. "Give me some advice."

"A job?" Olivia was slightly surprised.

She added, "You're worth over a hundred million dollars now; you could be at clubs finding models every day. Why bother working?"

"Besides, with your medical skills, just treat a few people a year, and you can make others' several lifetimes."

"Isn't looking for a job a waste of your time?"

James coughed and said, "I want to feel more fulfilled."

"Is it Ms. Smith who's asking you to find a job to be less of a burden?"

Olivia realized and scolded, "You really are henpecked."

James didn't dare to answer.

Taking advantage of a red light, Olivia leaned over James's neck, her breath like orchids, and whispered in his ear, "How about you become my doctor? You can set your salary. How about it?"

James held his forehead and said, "It's for my mother's sake. I've graduated for a year without a proper job, and she's worried."

Olivia didn't press on James's flimsy excuse and said, "It's easy to get a job. The WH Group has dozens of companies; you can join any time. But I think you shouldn't waste your time."

"Your medical skills are even better than Mark's. You should focus on practicing medicine."

"I suggest you open a clinic directly."

"That way, you can have a proper career, utilize your strengths, accumulate medical experience, and earn a substantial amount of money."

"Four birds with one stone."

James was first stunned, then slapped his thigh, saying, "Right, I could open a clinic. That's a proper job."

"But... no, Mary doesn't like me practicing medicine. She would be unhappy if she knew."

James murmured, "And I don't have a medical license."

Olivia tapped James's forehead lightly, speaking irritably, "With your skills and connections, getting a medical license is a piece of cake."

"As for Mary... please, it's your life; why do you care what Mary thinks?"

"Why muat you obey her every word? If she tells you to die, will you comply?"

"Let me decide for you. Your job is to open a clinic. I'll help you get the medical license and set up the clinic."

Olivia made a decision for James.

She added, "If Mary has a problem with it and it causes a rift, just divorce her."

"Worst case, I'll support you."

After speaking, she slammed on the brakes and stopped in front of the BH Bank.

She said, "Here's the bank. Get out."

After dropping off James, she left with a stern face.

James watched Olivia's retreating figure with a helpless smile, feeling for the first time the authoritative care of a woman, which warmed his heart.

It was a pity that the one he liked was Mary.

Then he turned his gaze back and took out the checks from his pocket.

He now had three checks totaling a hundred and sixty million dollars. James felt it wasn't safe to carry them around, fearing they might accidentally get washed with his laundry.

James also planned to pay off his debts, buy a house for his mother, keep some cash on hand, and then use the remaining money to start a small business.

With these thoughts in mind, James entered the bank and asked an attendant, "Hello, where can I cash a check?"

"Isn't that James?" Just then, a wave of perfume hit him, and a tall, beautiful woman appeared in front of James.

It was Mary's cousin, the woman from last night's video call, Emily.

"Are you coming to the bank to cash checks? So pompously. But has a freeloader like you ever seen a check?" Emily's face was full of sarcasm, openly revealing James's status in front of everyone.

She regarded Mary as a sister-in-law and thus felt a strong distaste for James, thinking he had tainted Mary's purity and ruined her life.

Emily's voice was loud, attracting many onlookers. Once they knew James was a live-in son-in-law, they started whispering among themselves.

"Ms. Garcia, please mind your words," James spoke calmly, "I'm a bank customer here to cash a check, not to be humiliated by you."

"You are a freeloader; How could you be a customer?" Emily crossed her arms with a disdainful look and said, "The check must be Mary's pocket money for you, right?"

"How shameful."

"The Smith family provides you with food and shelter, and still, you squander Mary's hard-earned money. Are you even a man?"

Her face was full of contempt, thinking James was worse than a beggar.

The bank staff and customers shook their heads; what James was doing was crossing the line of decency.

"Are you done?" James's gaze turned cold. "If you're done, move aside, and don't block my way to cash the check."

If it were a man, James would have already slapped him.

"I warn you, you'd better leave Mary soon. You are not good enough for her,," Emily commanded, "And Joseph will be back soon. If he sees you getting cozy with Mary, be careful with your life."

James didn't even look at her and handed the check to a window, saying, "Hello, help me cash this check."

Emily snatched it away and said, "I'm the lobby manager; let me see your check first."

"Ten million dollars?" Emily was shocked when she saw the amount.

She added, "Did Mary give you so much money? Impossible, she wouldn't give you that much."

"This check is fake."
