Chapter107

When he spoke, his voice was firm and cheerful. "Yeah, Quentin and Hannah will make the perfect flower kids."
The delight was evident on the two munchkins' faces as they celebrated the news.
After dinner, the family of four watched TV in the living room. With school approaching, Quentin bathed on his own before bed, while Hannah wanted Madison's help with her bath. Madison directed Matthew to assist Quentin with his bedtime routine, "Just lock up when you leave later, okay?"
"Mom, can Dad stay over tonight?" Hannah asked Madison, her eyes filled with innocent hope.
Behind Madison, Matthew gave his daughter a conspiratorial wink.
"But we don't have an extra bed," Madison replied, trying to navigate the unexpected proposition.
Hannah asserted seriously, "Dad can sleep with Mom. That's what other parents do."
Madison's cheeks flushed with embarrassment at her daughter's candid suggestion.
The troublemaker himself lingered in the background, suppressing his laughter at Madison's unease.
Seeing her genuinely flustered, Matthew managed to contain his smirk and turned to his little princess, "Dad will stay some other time. Can you be a good girl and sleep with your brother tonight?"
Madison felt that the man's audacity knew no limits. With her daughter in tow, she headed to the bathroom, pointedly ignoring him.
After the bath, Madison settled both children into bed. She emerged from their room, expecting Matthew to have left.
She had casually thrown on her pajamas after her shower, not bothering with underwear. She could feel Matthew's eyes unintentionally brushing over her, and she was flooded with vexation.
Matthew watched Madison from the living room sofa. Her hair was slightly damp, and the pajamas she wore hinted at her figure beneath. Just seeing her made him feel thirsty.
And yet, the woman before him seemed as innocent as a rabbit. His body reacted with a heat that surged through him, his blood rushing, his control teetering on the edge.
If he didn't know this unassuming woman better, he'd think she was toying with him intentionally.
His throat felt parched, and there was an unusual heat on his face as he stood up and headed for the kitchen, his voice rough with unnatural hoarseness, "I'm going to grab a drink."
After saying that, he dashed toward the kitchen.
Madison spotted him vanishing into the kitchen and quickly slipped on a coat before joining him.
Matthew guzzled down two big glasses of ice water in the kitchen, trying to quell the inner heat before stepping out.
"It's getting late. Aren't you heading back?" Madison called out as Matthew emerged from the kitchen. She noticed the coat she had donned hastily.
Matthew, unfazed, strolled to the sofa and settled in, stretching his legs comfortably and leaning back with an air of ease. Despite sitting, his demeanor exuded authority.
"Honey, do you really have the heart to make me drive back alone this late?" he asked her.
Madison cast him a sharp glance. His persistence was growing tiresome. She had already asked him to leave an hour ago, and his excuse of it being too late wasn't going to sway her. She wasn't about to give in to his attempts at manipulation.
"Why don't you call your driver to pick you up?" she retorted.
Matthew noticed Madison's annoyance and decided to step back. They hadn't even gotten their marriage license yet, so there was no need to add unnecessary drama.
"Fine, I'm really leaving then. I'll come by tomorrow morning," Matthew said as he picked up his car keys and coat, preparing to leave.
Madison, thinking about his irresponsible demeanor lately, couldn't help but say, "Don't you have to be at the office?"
"Of course I do. I'll come over to have breakfast with the kids, drop them off at school, then we can go get our marriage license before heading to the office..." he listed his plans meticulously.
At the mention of getting a marriage license, Madison couldn't help but coyly protest, "Who said I'd get a license with you?"
Matthew panicked at her words, urgently responding, "You promised. As long as the kids are okay with it, we will get it. And I've already won them over."
Feeling anxious, Matthew abandoned his teasing. He had been prepared to leave, but now he hesitated, fearing her rejection. There was a hint of pleading in his tone, hoping she would agree.
Madison found his reaction somewhat amusing.
"Just teasing, we can talk about it tomorrow," she said playfully.
"What do you mean to talk about it tomorrow? We have to get it tomorrow. I don't care; I'm not leaving. I'll just sleep on the couch and wait here." With that, he put down his keys and coat, ready to stake out in the living room.
Madison saw the earnestness in his eyes and hurried to halt his pleas.
"All right, all right, let's head back. We'll take care of it tomorrow. Let's not wake up Quentin and Hannah."
Hearing Madison's concession, Matthew relaxed, tilting his head and leaning in closer.
"Then how about a kiss to seal the deal?"
Madison looked at him with amusement. How could a kiss seal anything? So childish.
Noticing Madison's hesitation, Matthew kept his hopeful expression, waiting for her response. Unable to resist his puppy-dog eyes, Madison tiptoed over and planted a soft peck on his cheek.
Satisfied, he finally left.
About half an hour later, as Madison was lying in bed, she received a message from him on Facebook.
Matthew : [Honey made it home. Goodnight.]
"Goodnight." After sending those two words, Madison truly settled down to sleep.

The next day, Matthew arrived exceptionally early. Even before Madison had risen from bed, she heard the doorbell ring.
Madison yawned and stumbled to the door, feeling disoriented. There stood Matthew, brimming with energy and holding something in his hands.
"I think I came over too early. Go back to sleep for a bit. I brought breakfast; we can heat it up and eat later." He said as he gently pushed Madison back to her room to sleep, then took the breakfast to the kitchen.
Madison went back to her room, feeling like she was being controlled like a puppet. She checked the time on her watch, surprised that he was already there after leaving so late the night before. She pinched her cheek unconsciously, questioning if this was really happening.
Matthew worked quietly on his laptop in the living room until it was time to wake them up. Meanwhile, Madison stood by the breakfast spread on the table, feeling like everything was surreal.
Matthew and Madison returned home after dropping Quentin and Hannah off at school to retrieve their documents.
