Chapter 454 The Night Before the Wedding
Days passed quickly, and soon it was December 11th, the day before their wedding. Lloyd and Patricia had already arrived in Horizon City ahead of time and were staying in Willow's apartment.
After they left last time, Mitchell had arranged for someone to clean the apartment, partly so Lloyd and Patricia could stay there this time, and also because of the Horizon City custom that the bride should leave from her home.
Previously, Madison was also picked up from the hotel.
Moreover, the day before the wedding, the bride and groom are not supposed to stay together in the Horizon City. So tonight, Willow was staying with her parents in her apartment.
There was a small room in the apartment that Willow used as a storage room when she used to live alone.
This time, it was cleaned out and it was just big enough to fit a bed.
Willow initially suggested she sleep in the small room and let her parents sleep in her original room, but Lloyd and Patricia insisted that the bride shouldn't sleep in the small room. She couldn't argue with them and just went along with it.
At night, she lay on her big bed. The room was still arranged as it always had been, but she found it hard to fall asleep, even though she had lived alone and slept in this bed for several years.
She wondered if Mitchell was asleep.
In the darkness, she lay on the bed, staring at the ceiling and thinking silently. After lying there for another ten minutes, she turned over and, by the light from outside the window, saw her phone on the bedside table. She couldn't resist reaching for it.
It was already past eleven at night. She had gone to bed at nine-thirty and had been lying there for almost two hours without feeling sleepy at all. She couldn't help but open Mitchell's Facebook profile.
The last message was from earlier in the day when she said she was going to have dinner with her parents and would see him tomorrow. Mitchell had replied with a 'see you tomorrow.'
Willow turned over and lay on her stomach, tapping on the screen with her fingers. She typed and deleted several lines of text before finally sending a message.
Willow: [Are you asleep yet, Mitchell?]
Mitchell's profile picture lit up immediately.
Mitchell: [Not yet. Why aren't you asleep? Missing me?]
Willow looked at those words and honestly replied.
Willow: [Yes.]
She really did miss him. She was used to Mitchell's warm embrace at night, used to the scent of him around her as she slept, used to the big bed in his apartment. On this tense night before the wedding, she found it really hard to be alone.
Just after she sent the Facebook message, her phone rang. Seeing the familiar name on the screen, Willow smiled and answered, "Mitchell."
Her sweet, soft voice tugged at someone's heartstrings in the night.
"Why aren't you asleep yet?" Mitchell asked softly on the other line.
"I went to bed before ten, but I couldn't fall asleep," Willow said.
After thinking about it all night, hearing Mitchell's voice finally calmed her heart. They hadn't seen each other since the night before last when their families had dinner together, and Willow went back to her apartment with her parents. They hadn't met since then, and it had been over 48 hours.
She was definitely missing him.
Mitchell didn't say anything, and it was very quiet on his end.
Willow asked, "Mitchell, are you in bed too?"
"No." Mitchell's voice came through.
Willow thought he would be in bed by now.
Was he still busy this late?
She asked, "Are you still busy?"
"No, I'm done," Mitchell replied.
He was staying at the Nelson Mansion tonight. Their apartment was the new home, but the bride was to be picked up from the Nelson Mansion, so both places had been decorated. Their wedding photos were hung in the rooms, looking very traditional and festive.
"Then why aren't you asleep?" Willow asked, puzzled.
There was a pause on the other line, and then Mitchell said, "Look out the window."
She could almost picture Mitchell's smiling face just from his voice.
Mitchell's request made her even more curious.
She quickly got out of bed, ran to the window barefoot, and pulled back the curtain.
Her apartment wasn't on a high floor, and it was close to the street. Usually, she could see the street from her window.
As if she had a premonition, she looked down and saw Mitchell's car. He was standing by the car, holding his phone and looking up at her, dressed in a black coat and leaning casually against the car.
Willow's eyes widened in surprise. She didn't even bother to change her shoes, running out in her slippers, rushing to the elevator and down to meet Mitchell. She had forgotten to hang up, holding it as she ran.
Mitchell listened to her running sounds through the phone, smiling as he saw her appear in front of him. He then put down his phone and hung up, smiling at Willow.
Willow stood in front of him, catching her breath for a few seconds before throwing herself into his arms, hugging his neck tightly. Her voice trembled with happiness as she asked, "Mitchell, why are you here? When did you get here?"
She was so surprised, excited, and happy.
"I've been here for a while," Mitchell replied softly with a smile.
He had been busy all day and was physically tired. After taking a shower, he looked at the empty bed without Willow and decided to get dressed and drive to her apartment.
Seeing her apartment lights off, he thought she had gone to bed early and didn't call her. He planned to stay for a while and then leave, but then he received her Facebook message.
Mitchell held Willow as they got into the back seat of the car. It was a bit chilly outside, and she had come down in her pajamas and slippers. She would catch a cold if she stayed outside any longer.
Once inside the car, Willow immediately felt the warmth. The car's heater was on, making it very comfortable. Her eyes sparkled as she looked at Mitchell, as if she couldn't get enough of him. She seemed a bit worn out, probably from being busy the past two days.
Mitchell gently tapped her nose and said, "Silly girl."
Willow hugged his waist tightly, burying her face in his chest.
