Chapter 405 You Were My Joy 4

That night, Mitchell took the two to a Mexican restaurant nearby A University. While eating, Willow kept sneaking glances at Mitchell. She was shocked when she had accidentally witnessed someone confessing to Mitchell. It made her suddenly realize that Mitchell had grown so tall, and his face had matured a lot. He was no longer the older brother she used to follow around.

She kept replaying the scene of the pretty girl confessing to Mitchell, wondering why Mitchell didn't like that girl. She pondered, 'That girl is so cute and has such a good temperament, yet Mitchell doesn't seem interested. How high are Mitchell's standards?'

So, she was distracted the whole time during the meal, even it was her favorite Mexican food. Mitchell, sitting across from her, noticed several times and finally couldn't help but tap her plate which made her focus on eating.

That night, Mitchell took them back. Danielle insisted that Willow stay over at her house and even called Patricia to inform her. The two sisters often did this, so Patricia didn't object.

Danielle happily took Willow home with her. Since the concert was on Saturday night, they could have a good chat that night and then go to the concert together the next day.

When they got back, Richard and Jessica were not home. There was a note on the table saying they had gone on a trip.

That night, after taking a bath, Willow and Danielle lay in bed, chatting about their secrets.

"Willow, what kind of girl do you think my brother likes? That girl today was pretty," Danielle asked while lying in bed.

"I don't know, but she was indeed pretty," Willow replied softly.

"But she is assertive. It's a good thing my brother rejected her; otherwise, my mom would have been furious," Danielle continued, seemingly dissatisfied with the girl.

"Yes," Willow replied. She thought, 'Jessica indeed wouldn't like such a strong-willed girl, but Richard and Jessica are quite open-minded and would definitely prioritize Mitchell's opinion.'

"Willow, do you have a boy you like?" Danielle suddenly turned to face Willow and asked quietly.

Willow blushed at the question, but she answered truthfully, "No."

"Are there any couples in your class? Have you seen boys and girls holding hands?" Danielle asked eagerly, her eyes sparkling.

Teenage girls seemed to love gossiping about such things, whether or not they knew the people involved.

Willow thought for a moment before answering, "I'm not sure."

"Willow, don't get so absorbed in your studies that you miss out on everything. Hasn't any boy in your class confessed to you?" Danielle couldn't help but raise her voice. When she was in middle school, there were quite a few boys and girls secretly holding hands, let alone now that they were in high school.

"Really, no one. Just in sixth grade, there was a very naughty boy who suddenly started giving me snacks every day and said he liked me. Later, for some reason, he started avoiding me." Willow recalled seriously. Those little notes with just her name on them didn't really count as confessions.

"Sixth grade doesn't count. That's just playing together," Danielle said with a laugh.

"Has any boy confessed to you?" Willow asked Danielle.

"Of course not," Danielle replied with a laugh, not minding at all.

Although she didn't know why she only had Cheryl around her all the time, she didn't have those kinds of thoughts. Among the boys in her class, she had to admit that Cheryl was the only one who looked decent. Unfortunately, they were always at odds, bickering whenever they met. None of the other boys were as good-looking as Mitchell, so she felt it was better not to have any confessions, saving her a lot of trouble.

After she finished speaking, the two of them exchanged a smile. Willow's mind, however, kept replaying Danielle's first question about a crush. She wondered why Mitchell's face always popped into her head when she heard that question. She thought she must be under too much study pressure and she kept thinking of him because Mitchell always tutored her.

In the middle of the night, she woke up feeling thirsty. Groggily, she got up to find some water. Since it wasn't her first time sleeping over at Danielle's house, she didn't turn on the lights. She opened the door and headed to the kitchen, half-awake. Just as she stepped out of the room, she bumped into Mitchell, who was coming out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around his waist. It was the first time she had seen Mitchell's bare body, and she was so shocked that she froze in place.

Mitchell had been working late because his company had taken on a big project, and everyone was working overtime. He had just finished his work and was about to take a shower when he realized the showerhead in his room was broken. Thinking it was already late, he wrapped a towel around himself and went to the bathroom in the living room. After showering, he came out with just the towel.

In his early twenties, Mitchell had a perfectly toned body with eight-pack abs. He looked better than those of the celebrities in magazines because of regular exercises.

When he opened the door and saw Willow, he was equally stunned. They both stood in silence for a while.

Trying to act calm, he asked, "Why are you up?"

Willow, still a teenager, realized what she had seen and was instantly wide awake. Her face turned red with embarrassment, and she nervously twisted her fingers together, looking down as she stammered, "I... I wanted to get some water."

"Alright, go back to sleep early," Mitchell said, maintaining his composure as he walked past Willow and returned to his room.

It wasn't until she heard the door close that Willow let out a sigh of relief, feeling as if her whole body had gone soft. Her heart was racing. She rushed to open the fridge in the kitchen, drinking a whole bottle of cold water in one go. The icy sensation traveled from her mouth to her stomach and then to her entire body, finally calming her down.

That was the first time she felt her heart race uncontrollably in front of Mitchell as if it were about to leap out of her chest. She couldn't sleep for a long time afterward, marking the first time she had insomnia because of Mitchell.
