Chapter 283 Unexpected Happenings

Willow didn't think about why Mitchell suddenly accepted the roadside stall and took her there. She happily took the menu, the smell of barbecue in the air making her hungry again. She lowered her head to make her selection, then looked up at Mitchell, asking, "Mitchell, is there anything you'd like? Take a look and add something for yourself." She handed the menu to Mitchell.

Mitchell replied, "Order what you like. I'm fine with anything." Willow agreed and added a few more items before calling the waiter. She sat there, looking content, while Mitchell, in a good mood, couldn't take his eyes off her.

Willow felt a bit embarrassed under his gaze and asked, "Mitchell, is there something on my face?" Mitchell pretended to be serious, then leaned in, gently brushing something off her face, saying, "There, it's gone." Willow, taken aback by his sudden proximity, remained frozen. She watched as Mitchell's features, highlighted by the light, moved closer, his breath mingling with the scent of their coffee. Mitchell's hand gently brushed her face, and Willow felt her cheeks flush. "Thank you, Mitchell," she said, feeling a bit awkward. Just then, their food arrived, breaking the tension.

Willow had ordered some skewers, oysters, and shrimp. She ate heartily, not worrying about her image in front of Mitchell. He sat beside her, silently watching her enjoy the meal, feeling content himself. He now understood that love is about sharing many delicious moments together.

After a satisfying barbecue, Mitchell accompanied Willow back to her apartment. She tried calling Hannah via video, but there was no answer. She had already taken a day off to pick them up at the airport the next morning, but Madison hadn't provided the flight details.

Willow called Madison, but there was no response, which made her worry. It wasn't until 10 p.m. that Madison called back. Willow answered immediately, asking, "Madison, what time is your flight tomorrow? I'll pick you up at the airport. I didn't get any messages or calls all day. Is everything okay?"

Madison sounded tired as she explained, "We had a little accident. Our flight was canceled, and we're unsure when we can return." Willow became more anxious and asked, "What happened? Is it Quentin and Hannah?" Her first thought was that something might have happened to the two kids at the beach.

"They're fine. It's Matthew," Madison replied, still shaken by the day's events. "Matthew? What happened to Matthew?" Willow asked, her voice filled with concern. It turned out that today was their last day at the beach. Quentin had been learning to surf, and the family planned to surf again in the morning. Unfortunately, the wind was strong, and a wave swept away Quentin. Matthew jumped in to rescue him but got caught in the strong current. He accidentally hit his head on a surfboard and lost consciousness. Fortunately, the nearby rescue team spotted them and brought them ashore. Madison was terrified, holding Hannah close, feeling guilty for letting Quentin go into the water when it was windy and regretting not holding onto Matthew, knowing that he had previously had an accident in the sea. The beach was filled with hotel rescue team members, and they should have sought help from them directly. After being rescued, they were taken to the nearby hospital. Quentin woke up quickly, but Matthew, who had previously injured his head, needed to be closely monitored. Madison waited anxiously outside the emergency room with Hannah until the doctor came out and said that there was no life-threatening situation. Then she called Willow.

Willow listened to Madison's brief account of the incident and felt that Madison must have been very helpless on her own during the day. "Madison, it's been tough. I'll book my ticket for tomorrow and come over. It's too much for you to take care of the two kids alone, and my brother hasn't woken up yet." Willow insisted on going to help them. "Okay, I'll send you the address later." Madison no longer objected. Although the doctor said that Matthew should wake up early tomorrow, he would need to undergo another examination. Quentin also needed to be observed. Madison couldn't handle it all by herself. After hanging up the phone, Willow immediately started looking for flights. After buying the ticket, she applied for a week's leave. After thinking about it, she sent a message to Mitchell on Facebook, "Mitchell, I'm taking a week off. There was a little accident with Matthew and the kids at the beach, and Madison can't handle it alone. I'm going to help."

Mitchell replied instantly, "I'll go with you." Before Willow could react, Mitchell was already calling her. "Mitchell," Willow answered. "What's the situation with Matthew?" Mitchell asked, his tone serious. "Madison said Matthew hit his head, but the doctor found nothing wrong. He should wake up tomorrow morning," Willow explained what Madison had told her. "You've already bought your ticket, right? Send me the flight information," Mitchell guessed that Willow had bought the ticket and was rushing over. "Yes, the one at 9 a.m. tomorrow," Willow reported her newly booked ticket information to Mitchell. "Okay, I'll come to pick you up tomorrow morning," Mitchell arranged everything directly, not giving Willow a chance to refuse. Willow swallowed back the words, 'I can go alone.'
