Chapter 410 She Was Once His Sunshine
Willow slept deeply, dreaming of her college days.
After getting into the architecture department at A University, Willow seemed to step into a new world. There were various club activities, and no one needed to wear oversized school uniforms anymore. All the girls dressed beautifully, and even the cafeteria food seemed better than in high school. The first lesson upon entering college was military training. At the beginning of the semester, Danielle, as an upperclassman, brought her a lot of skincare products and sunscreen, teaching her how to use them. Her roommates were extremely envious. Gradually, in this environment, Willow also began to learn how to choose clothes that suited her, joined many clubs, and became more confident and outgoing.
It was only after getting into A University that she realized how legendary Mitchell was at the school. Even the old, traditional professors in their professional courses spoke highly of him and mentioned him often. Willow silently noted down every word of praise from the professors. One of her roommates had a boyfriend from another school; they were high school classmates. Another roommate was tall and beautiful, and after entering the school, she was pursued by many boys. Their dormitory received invitations to social events or meals almost every day.
At night, the four of them would lie in bed discussing which of the beautiful girl's many suitors was the most competitive. When talking about the roommate's boyfriend, Willow would lie in bed listening silently. Especially when the roommate mentioned having kissed her boyfriend, Willow's face would turn red, her heart would race, and her mind would be filled with thoughts of Mitchell.
Her roommates asked if she had ever liked anyone before. She was so flustered that she hastily said no. Such a secret seemed like something only she could know and keep quietly in her heart.
Actually, Willow, being cute, well-behaved, and with a good personality, was quite attractive. Although she wasn't the type to stun at first glance, she still had many admirers after entering college. Dating no longer needed to be done secretly, and boys were much more proactive, inviting her to dates, meals, movies, and dancing. There were many activities. However, Willow never went out with anyone because she always had reasonable excuses to refuse. During her school days, she was almost entirely focused on her studies.
Once, Danielle invited her to dinner, and they happened to run into a boy from the same club as Willow, who asked her out for a meal to eat.
After Willow refused, Danielle jokingly asked, "Willow, who was that guy? He looked pretty decent."
"He's from the drama club. I think he's a computer science major. I don't really remember," Willow said, as she hadn't paid much attention to his appearance and only remembered his name from his self-introduction.
"Willow, do you like Mitchell?" Danielle suddenly asked.
Willow wasn't particularly good at some subjects, yet she chose a major she wasn't good at in high school and set her sights on the architecture department at A University. Most importantly, Danielle had accidentally seen a small card Willow had written, which fell out of her book. The content clearly showed she liked someone. Analyzing further, there were no other possible boys around her, so Danielle guessed that Willow liked Mitchell. Although Mitchell was a bit older, he was still quite a catch in many ways.
Willow heard Danielle's words and immediately spat out the water from her mouth, choking and coughing.
Danielle quickly patted her back, saying, "Take it easy. I was just guessing. Don't get so worked up."
Willow coughed for a while before she could catch her breath, her face flushed red, not knowing if it was from choking or from embarrassment. With her head down, Danielle stared at her for a long time and finally realized that her blush was from shyness.
She widened her eyes and exclaimed, "Really? Did I guess right? The person you like is really Mitchell!"
Although Danielle felt her guess was well-founded, hearing Willow admit it was still shocking.
She excitedly grabbed Willow's hand and jumped up. "Come on. Did I guess right?"
Willow, dizzy from being shaken, blushed and nodded lightly. "How did you guess?"
Since Danielle was asking, she didn't want to lie to her.
"Since we grew up together, I can guess your thoughts, but I couldn't believe you'd fall for Mitchell. He is so controlling and much older," Danielle said, sneaking a laugh, "But aside from being older, he's quite a catch. Mitchell doesn't know yet. When are you planning to confess?"
Danielle thought, 'If Willow likes Mitchell, confess, why not confess? Since they aren't strangers and are in college, they could date.'
But Willow felt a bit inferior, especially after entering college and realizing Mitchell was even more outstanding than she had imagined. So, she didn't dare to confess.
"I want to wait until I can stand side by side with Mitchell," Willow said softly.
"Wait? Mitchell is already in his twenties. I'm afraid if you wait, you'll see him with a wife. What will you do then?" Danielle thought this was something that needed immediate action and there was no such thing as waiting.
"I just got into college. I really feel I'm not good enough for Mitchell," Willow said with a determined look in her eyes. She wanted to work harder so that one day, she could stand beside Mitchell.
"Alright, just keep an eye on things. I'll help you keep an eye out, too. If anything happens, we'll act," Danielle said, hugging Willow's shoulders with a smile. She was extremely happy. If Mitchell and Willow ended up together, she would be the first to cheer and applaud.
Later, during their college days, Willow often went to Mitchell's company, using various excuses to appear frequently in front of him. At that time, Mitchell was the busiest with their startup, but he would still make time for Willow whenever she said she was coming, teaching her about architecture and professional courses. During those busiest days of the startup, waiting for Willow became the thing he looked forward to the most. Unknowingly, Willow accompanied him through the toughest times.
Willow once thought Mitchell was the sunshine she pursued. She always followed in his footsteps, not realizing that she was also Mitchell's sunshine. Even without knowing it, she illuminated his life.
