Chapter 318 The Cause of Dad and Mom's Death

Matthew and Victor boarded a plane to Rome on the third day after everyone gathered together. Madison stayed in Horizon City to take care of the two children and did not accompany them. Before leaving, Matthew contacted Hank in advance, asking him to help greet the Interpol and check all the information inside the USB drive that Victor had given to the police. He knew that there must be a reason for their parent's death in it.

Hank still had lingering fears about Matthew's previous injury. When he received the call, he decided to follow them to Rome. This time, he had to keep a close eye on Matthew to prevent any trouble, or he wouldn't be able to explain it to Madison. Matthew felt that there was no need for Hank to go to Rome with them. Just helping to greet the Interpol would be enough. When Madison learned that Hank was going to Rome, she immediately agreed. With Hank around, she felt much more at ease. After all, Hank was a policeman, and having an extra person meant extra care. When she thought of the incident that happened to Matthew, that feeling of despair, she couldn't bear to experience it a second time.

In the end, to reassure Madison, Matthew compromised. He and Victor departed from Horizon City, while Hank departed from Emerald Isle City. The three of them met in Rome.

When they arrived on the first day, it was already evening, and they checked into a hotel. Matthew stood in the suite on the hotel's top floor, overlooking the night view of this ancient city. The events that happened a few months ago seemed like they had just occurred yesterday. If it weren't for Madison's relentless search for him, he might not have the fulfilling and happy life he has now. Rome, the city that brought him disaster, was back again.

On the second day, the three of them went directly to the office of the Interpol Rome branch. Hank had informed them in advance, and someone was waiting for them at the entrance, leading them to a meeting room. Shortly after, a middle-aged man in uniform walked in and warmly greeted Hank.

"Hank, long time no see. How's your return to Emerald Isle City?" the middle-aged man asked.

"Not bad, much easier than being in Rome," Hank replied with a smile. Being able to sleep peacefully now was much easier than the years he spent undercover with the K group. He was selected to go undercover right after graduation, and it wasn't until the K group was dismantled and K was arrested and executed that he could truly rest easy. He had maintained a high level of vigilance all those years, never truly able to sleep.

"That's good. I'll make sure to visit Emerald Isle City when I have the chance," the middle-aged man said.

"Great, remember to contact me when the time comes." Hank exchanged a few pleasantries with him, then turned to Matthew and said, "This is my brother-in-law, Matthew. The contents of the USB drive related to the K group case, which involves the death of his parents, he wants to see." Hank explained.

"You mentioned it to me over the phone. I've prepared it for you. Follow me." The middle-aged man led them to the archives room and pulled out all the information on the old K case, including the contents of the USB drive. "It seems this gentleman handed it to us before." The middle-aged man pointed to Victor, as he had been involved in the scene during the arrest.

Victor nodded. It made sense why this person seemed familiar. He had handed over the USB drive to the Interpol at the scene.

"Without this USB drive, it might have been difficult to determine the crimes committed by K. Thank you very much. Although you can't take the items with you, all the relevant case information can be viewed here." After the middle-aged man finished speaking, he handed Matthew a file folder. "I'll leave you to it." After the middle-aged man left, Matthew tightly held the file folder without opening it. Hank and Victor exchanged a glance, and then both stepped out, closing the door to the archive room and standing guard outside.

Some things had to be faced alone, and he wanted to face them alone.

After Hank and Victor left, Matthew stared at the words in the file folder for a while, then hesitantly opened it. Inside were some documents related to the case. He quickly scanned through them and then continued looking through the folder's contents. The USB drive that Brianna had given him lay quietly at the bottom. He hurriedly took it out and tried to plug it into the computer. Due to his nervousness, he had to try a few times before successfully inserting it.

Taking a deep breath, he clicked open the USB drive. Inside were a lot of core information about the K criminal group, as well as crucial evidence. Each record was almost a vivid account of a life lost to the crimes. At that moment, Matthew felt that his decision back then was right. Even if it wasn't to uncover the truth behind his parents' death, the K group needed to be dismantled, K needed to face justice, and countless lives needed to be saved. People like them didn't deserve to live in this world. As he flipped through to the end, Matthew found a folder that his intuition told him held the truth. He opened a video inside the folder and saw his mom and dad. The video seemed to be taken secretly, with a hidden angle, but it was clear, and the conversation was audible.

It turned out that when Mother Nelson was traveling abroad, she was targeted by the K group due to an accident that landed her in the hospital. Her heart happened to match a client of the K criminal group who needed a heart transplant. They sent a killer to kidnap Mother Nelson. Having some skills from his military background, Father Nelson managed to evade the pursuit with Mother Nelson but eventually couldn't escape safely. They could have boarded a flight back home immediately to evade their pursuers, but on the enemy's turf, Father Nelson couldn't fend off multiple attackers armed with guns and other weapons. In the end, Father and Mother Nelson didn't make it out alive. The plane crash was just a cover-up; they had died before boarding, and the explosion was staged to hide the truth.

The video froze on the backs of Father and Mother Nelson, with four or five armed individuals standing in front of them. They stood straight, showing no fear or hesitation. Mother Nelson's hand was still on the handle of the knife she had plunged into her own heart, leaning against Father Nelson.

Matthew watched as his mom plunged the dagger into her chest, and at that moment, he couldn't hold back the tears. Mom and Dad chose death over submission; that was the Nelson family's style. The Nelson Family would never surrender.

He gently reached out and touched the computer screen, softly saying, "Mom, Dad."

There was a photo of Mother Nelson in the hospital in the file folder, with the word 'heart' scribbled hastily on the back. It was taken when the K group was scouting for targets. Mother Nelson looked ahead with a happy smile. Matthew thought that she must have been looking at Dad.

Matthew quietly took out the photo and tucked it into his pocket.
