Chapter 226 Vacationing Together
After dinner, Ella was ready to leave, but Violet held onto her hand, unwilling to let go. Mitchell went upstairs and changed into casual clothes before coming down with the car keys.
"Let's go. I'll drive you back," he said, heading toward the door.
"Aunty, I'll come back next time," Ella said.
"Alright."
Carrying her bag, Ella followed behind Mitchell as they walked out of the gate. She didn't drive there herself; she took a taxi at noon, so Mitchell was taking her back to where she was staying.
After getting in the car, Mitchell started the engine and drove into the night.
Ella looked at the dolls hanging in the car, a beautiful little dog toy. She reached out and touched it. "Where did you buy this? It looks really nice."
Mitchell's lips curved with Ophelia's smile, looking gentle as he spoke in an indulgent tone, "Willow bought it when she went on a trip. She got one for each of the brothers. You probably can't find them in Horizon City."
Ella stared at his profile directly, completely astonished. This man was really handsome! "Oh, I see...I'll ask Willow when I see her another day," Ella said.
Mitchell didn't say anything, seeming not to want her to find Willow.
After a while, he looked ahead and suddenly spoke up. "Next time my mom calls you, just say you're busy and don't need to come over specifically to accompany her."
Ella was taken aback for a moment. "It's okay. Anyway, I happened to have nothing to do, so I came to accompany Aunty. You and Daniel are both busy with work, and sometimes she gets bored."
Mitchell didn't respond, and the car fell silent. Ella asked, "Was the steak really delicious today?"
"Well, it was okay," Mitchell replied and paused before continuing. "Actually, you don't have to go out of your way to do these things for me. We only agreed to do it to appease our parents. You don't need to do these things specifically."
"I didn't do it on purpose. I just happened to have nothing to do today. Look at how busy I usually am," Ella insisted.
Mitchell sighed lightly, and the two of them didn't speak again. Ella rested against the car window with her eyes closed, no longer initiating any conversation.
When they arrived at the apartment building where Ella lived, Mitchell parked the car. "We're here."
Ella opened her eyes. She had only planned to rest her eyes, but she had actually fallen asleep. She got out of the car with her bag. "Thank you for driving me back."
"You're welcome," Mitchell replied.
Ella turned around to go upstairs but suddenly thought of something. She turned back around and walked toward Mitchell. "By the way, what time will we leave tomorrow? You're picking me up."
Mitchell couldn't help but ask, "Do you really want to come with us?"
"Of course. I haven't had a good rest since I came back to the country, nor have I gone out to have fun. Besides, there are many people there, right? I don't have many friends back home, so it's good to meet a few more people," Ella said confidently. Mitchell felt embarrassed as a grown man to reject her anymore.
"Okay then, I'll come pick you up at 9 am tomorrow."
"Okay, see you tomorrow. Drive safely, good night," Ella waved goodbye and said good night.
Mitchell replied politely, "Good night." Then he turned and left.
When Mitchell returned home, only Daniel was there. Violet was nowhere to be seen. Daniel greeted Mitchell as he entered the house, "Where were you?"
Ignoring the question, Mitchell asked, "Where are mom and dad?"
"I haven't seen them since I got back. I called Mom, and she said Dad went out for dinner with friends. She went to pick him up," Daniel explained.
Mitchell nodded. "Why did you come back today?"
"We're going out together tomorrow. Mom called me in the afternoon and asked me to come back for dinner, saying that you were coming back. So I finished work and came home. Tomorrow, I'll ride with you. I don't plan on driving myself," Daniel explained, munching on an apple.
"Did you take a vacation?" Mitchell asked curiously. He knew that his sister was always so busy that she didn't even have time to have dinner at home, so their mother constantly nagged them. They were both workaholics.
"If I squeeze in, I can take two days off," she replied.
Mitchell saw her eating an apple and opening a bag of potato chips. "Didn't you have dinner? Stop eating so many snacks. You're like a child."
"I did. It was a boxed meal on set. The taste was so-so, so I didn't eat much. Now I'm hungry again," Daniel said, sitting cross-legged on the couch, and started eating the potato chips.
Mitchell said nothing more and went upstairs to take a shower. Daniel quickly called him back, "You didn't say where you just went."
"Why do you care so much, like a little kid," Mitchell turned around and went upstairs. Daniel made a face behind him. "You're the one who's the little kid, hmph!"
Matthew came home from work, and the dinner was already prepared. He washed his hands and sat down to eat. It was said that his mother-in-law helped out in the kitchen today and made mushroom soup for the first time. Although it didn't look great, everyone agreed that it tasted good. Mother-in-law was very proud of herself and confidently said she wanted to learn cooking from Madison. Father-in-law hurriedly stopped her and said, "Give others a chance. If you learn to cook, the staff in the house will lose her job." My mother-in-law thought about it and realized it was true.
Hank silently ate his meal without saying a word. He could already imagine how long the mushroom soup would continue to be served on their dinner table after they returned to Rivertown Bay. He thought his dad shouldn't have stopped his mom; at least they could have some variety every day.
After dinner, everyone rested for a while and then went back to their rooms to sleep. They were planning to go on a vacation to Madison's hometown. Mother-in-law was even more excited than Quentin and Hannah, the two little kids. She was going to the place where her daughter had grown up, and she was both happy and looking forward to it. Of course, the two little ones were also pleased. Madison directly asked her teacher for a few days off and gave them an early summer vacation- no school and the opportunity to go out and play. The two little kids were excited for the whole night.
Mother-in-law spent the day actively packing their suitcases with father-in-law. Madison had already prepared the belongings for the family of four and packed them into two large suitcases. All the preparations were done, and they were waiting to leave early tomorrow morning.
Matthew and Madison returned to their room after showering and lay on the bed together. It was only then that Matthew told Madison about everyone's desire to go on vacation. Madison happily responded, "That sounds great! It'll be more fun with more people. Plus, it seems like we've never gone on vacation together before. Do Daniel, Willow, and Ophelia have time to join us? Willow should be available, but I'm not so sure about Daniel and Ophelia since they probably don't have vacation time."
"It should be possible. I haven't heard anyone say they can't go," Matthew reassured the overly excited Madison.
"I'll quickly call Nicholas to check if there are enough rooms." Madison dialed Nicholas's number on her phone, completely absorbed in thoughts about tomorrow's vacation plans, oblivious to the sad man behind her.
