Chapter 426 Temporary Replacement

The bride Amanda and the groom Rex approached Willow.

Rex, a bit embarrassed, said, "Willow, since the wedding is tomorrow and we don't have any other suitable friends to replace the groomsman, I was wondering if your boyfriend would be willing to help out."

Willow didn't immediately agree because she wasn't sure if Mitchell would be willing. She didn't want to use their relationship to pressure him or make demands. After all, in all these years, he had only been a groomsman once, at Matthew's wedding.

Amanda seemed to sense her hesitation and smiled, saying, "Willow, it's okay if Mitchell doesn't want to. I have a little cousin who can fill in."

The girls in their dorm were always straightforward and unreserved.

Willow didn't feel awkward either and smiled back, saying, "Alright, I'll go ask him."

Dressed in a purple bridesmaid dress, she stepped down from the stage and walked towards Mitchell.

Seeing her approach, Mitchell stood up.

When Willow reached him, he asked, "What's up? Is it over?"

As he spoke, he reached out to take her hand into his palm.

Willow shook her head and said, "Not yet."

Mitchell looked a bit puzzled.

Willow looked up at him and said, "Mitchell, it's just... Amanda and Rex have a groomsman who had something come up last minute. They want to know if you'd be willing to be a groomsman."

"If they need me, I can help," Mitchell said with a smile as he looked at Willow.

Willow's eyes lit up. "I'll go tell Amanda and Rex."

Then, she ran back up to the stage to inform the bride and groom.

Knowing that Mitchell was willing to be a groomsman, everyone was very happy. They didn't make him continue with the rehearsal since he had been watching the entire time and knew the process.

After the rehearsal, Amanda and Rex took them to a specialty restaurant in Emerald Isle City for dinner and even booked a private room.

To Willow's roommates, Mitchell had always seemed unapproachable, someone they could only admire from afar. They never imagined they would one day have dinner with him.

Since the wedding ceremony was the next day, everyone agreed to skip the alcohol and stick to soft drinks.

Nevertheless, everyone was as excited as if they had been drinking, chatting and laughing at the dinner table.

They eagerly shared stories from their school days, and Mitchell listened with great interest.

They also asked how the two of them got together. When they found out that Mitchell had known Willow since she was young, they all widened their eyes and looked at Willow, simultaneously asking, "Willow! You never told us you knew Mitchell!"

"Yeah, and you guys are so close."

"If you had been dating Mitchell back then, we would have been the coolest in school."

Willow just smiled sheepishly and didn't say anything.

Back then, she always felt she wasn't good enough for Mitchell. And he was so famous at their school, especially in their architecture program, where he was practically everyone's idol. So she was always too shy to mention it.

Mitchell smiled and reassured everyone on Willow's behalf, "Thank you all for taking care of Willow during school. After the wedding, I'll treat everyone to a meal."

Everyone cheerfully accepted his invitation.

After dinner, they all returned to the hotel early to rest. Amanda went back to the hotel with Willow and the others, while Rex returned to their new home. The plan was for Rex to pick up Amanda from the new house the next day and then hold the wedding ceremony at the hotel.

With an important day ahead, everyone went straight to their rooms to rest once they got to the hotel.

When Willow and Mitchell got back to their room, she urged him to take a shower. He had been with them all day, and while others might not notice, she could tell he was a bit tired. Rushing back from Maple City to Emerald Isle City must have been exhausting.

Mitchell obediently took the pajamas Willow handed him and went to shower. When he came out with his hair still wet, Willow asked, "Why didn't you dry your hair?"

"I couldn't find the hairdryer," Mitchell said with a slight smile. "I used a towel; it should dry soon."

Then, he opened his black suitcase to get something.

Willow searched for the hairdryer and finally found it in the nightstand drawer. She turned around excitedly, about to announce her find, but saw Mitchell busy with his laptop.

Quietly, she plugged in the hairdryer, set it to the lowest setting to minimize noise, and started drying his hair from behind.

Hearing the sound, Mitchell turned to look at her, smiling as their eyes met, then turned back to his work.

Willow stood behind him, carefully drying his soft hair. The laptop screen was filled with documents, but she didn't pay attention to them, focusing only on drying his hair.

Since his hair was short, it didn't take long to dry. Once she was done, he was still busy working.

Willow quietly took her pajamas and the hairdryer to the bathroom. After her shower and drying her hair, she came out to find Mitchell still in the same position, focused on his work, his brow slightly furrowed and his expression serious.

She walked over quietly.

Mitchell, catching the familiar scent of her body wash, pulled her onto his lap without even turning around.

Willow exclaimed in surprise, wrapping her arms around Mitchell's neck in a reflex.

"How did you know I was behind you?" she asked curiously.

She had walked barefoot, making no sound, so how did Mitchell know she was there?

"Just a lucky guess," he said with a smile, pressing his forehead against hers.

Willow, not doubting him, murmured, "Really lucky."

Mitchell suddenly grinned, "Just kidding. I smelled the body wash."

She realized the truth and looked at the still-open document on the laptop. "Not done yet?"

He glanced at the screen. "It's fine. I'll finish it later. No rush."

He shut down the laptop, stood up with her in his arms, and headed towards the bed.

They expressed their longing for each other with passion and intensity.

Embracing each other, they felt their hearts pounding wildly because of one another.
