Chapter 275 Danielle's Reasonable Suspicion

The moment Mitchell's hand touched Willow, it felt like an electric shock. Startled, she quickly withdrew and explained, "Just now... maybe... it got stuck."

She then fastened her seatbelt, started the car, and asked, "Mitchell, where are you going tonight?" Willow was still determining whether he was headed to his apartment or the Jonah Family Villa.

At this point, Mitchell changed his position, leaning his head against the car window with his eyes closed. Perhaps the effects of the alcohol were coming back, as he felt dizzy. "Let's go back to the Villa, and you can stay there too. I don't feel comfortable with you going back alone," he said.

Willow didn't say anything. In the past, she had always stayed overnight with Daniel. It felt a bit inappropriate to go back with Mitchell now, especially since he had a girlfriend. It wouldn't look good if Mother Jonah saw them returning together.

She thought about dropping Mitchell off at the Villa and then taking a taxi herself.

Because it was already late, there were few cars on the road. Willow drove cautiously while Mitchell kept his eyes closed, possibly falling asleep. The vehicle quickly arrived at the entrance of the Jonah Family Villa. After parking the car, Willow turned her head to look at Mitchell, who was still sleeping. His breathing was steady and calm, and his long, thick eyelashes covered his eyes, giving him a serene appearance.

Unconsciously, Willow reached out her hand, just about to touch Mitchell's cheek, when he suddenly opened his eyes. His gaze was a bit confused, as if he hadn't fully woken up yet. Willow discreetly withdrew her hand and softly said, "Mitchell, we've arrived." Mitchell's head was still resting against the car window. He blinked a few times, then looked at Willow with an innocent expression, a hint of childishness in his eyes. "Let's go home," he said, preparing to open the car door. Willow quickly got out of the car and rushed to the passenger side door to support Mitchell, who had already gotten out.

Once Mitchell was out of the car, he steadied himself and smirked. "I'm fine," he said.

Willow was about to say that she would go back first, but then she saw the door of the Villa open, and Daniel walked out of the house. Seeing Willow and Mitchell standing at the door, his eyes moved back and forth between them, and he walked up to them. "Mitchell, have you been drinking?" He then looked at Willow, gesturing with his hands. How did you two end up together?"

Willow didn't expect Daniel to be at home, and even though she had nothing going on with Mitchell, she felt as if Daniel had caught her in the act.

Mitchell didn't answer Daniel's question and walked past her toward the house, saying as he walked, "Willow, stay the night and sleep with me."

"Well, of course," Daniel said, walking behind Mitchell with Willow in tow. "It's so late. How could I let her go home alone?"

The TV in the living room was still on, playing a popular variety show. Daniel must have been watching it just before. Willow didn't see Father Jonah and Mother Jonah and asked proactively, "Have your parents already gone to bed?" Daniel pulled her arm and sat down on the couch, saying, "They went to bed after coming back from their walk."

After Mitchell went upstairs, he reminded them, "You two should have breakfast in bed; don't stay up too late." He then continued upstairs to his room.

Once Mitchell was upstairs, Daniel grabbed Willow's arm with a curious look on his face and asked, "Willow, how did you end up with Mitchell? Why was he drinking today?" Willow briefly explained the story of Jimmy inviting her to eat shrimp, and Mitchell happened to run into them and join. They drank a lot of beer together.

After listening, Daniel nodded thoughtfully and then, with a hint of curiosity, asked Willow, "How come you didn't ask me to join you for the seafood dinner?"

"It was all pretty last-minute. Jimmy gifted my dad a couple of bottles of fine wine, and my mom suggested I should thank him by taking him out for a meal. He just so happened to call this afternoon to catch up, so we ended up grabbing dinner. But it turned out Mitchell picked up the tab."

"Well, that figures. Why else would he join you for dinner if not to foot the bill?" Daniel remarked with a knowing grin. He then tilted his head, eyeing Willow in a manner that made her feel a bit self-conscious. "Why are you looking at me like that? Come on, turn off the TV and let's head to bed," Willow said, rising to her feet and motioning for Daniel to follow.

Daniel raised his hand and said, "Wait a minute." Then he stood up and circled Willow. Willow looked puzzled at Daniel's strange movements and asked with a smile, "What's wrong? I bought this dress with you last time we went shopping, it's not new." Willow thought Daniel was looking at the clothes she was wearing.

After circling, Daniel stopped in front of Willow and said, "There is a problem, a big problem."

Willow was confused and asked, "What's the problem?" She even lowered her head to look at her clothes, but there was nothing wrong with them; they were just ordinary.

"I have reasonable doubts that there is something between you and Mitchell that I don't know about," Daniel said, pretending to be serious. "When did you ever see Mitchell eat at a roadside stall? Eat junk food?" Willow shook her head. Daniel clapped his hands and continued, "Exactly, so what exactly happened between you two? Why did Mitchell go eat shrimp with you?"

Willow shook her head desperately. "I already said it was a coincidence, so we went together."

Daniel squinted his eyes and, with a skeptical tone, asked, "Really?"

Willow couldn't help but roll her eyes and muttered, "Really, even more real than jewelry." Then she whispered again, "What happened between me and Mitchell is just my thoughts, you know that."

Daniel was stunned by what he heard, then pretended to cough a few times and changed his words, "Then I have reasonable suspicions that Mitchell must have something going on."

"Alright, let's go upstairs and sleep," Willow said when she saw that it was almost midnight. She quickly pulled Daniel upstairs to take a shower and sleep because they still had to work tomorrow, and if they didn't sleep, they wouldn't be able to get up in the morning.

After showering and lying in bed, Daniel still felt that something was off with Mitchell. A bold idea was spinning in her mind. She couldn't wait to search her brother's wallet and confirm her thoughts. She suddenly thought of something, turned over, and faced Willow. "Willow, what's the situation with that Jimmy now?"

Willow was feeling sleepy. Listening to Daniel's words in a daze, she replied, based on her consciousness, "There's nothing going on."

Daniel muttered, "That's good, that's good."

Willow's eyelids became heavy; she could only hear Daniel continuously saying something in her ear, but she couldn't make out the words clearly and soon fell asleep.

After Mitchell went upstairs, he lay down directly on the bed, feeling a bit dizzy in his head. Looking at the ceiling above, he chuckled self-deprecatingly. He never thought that at his age, he would one day make such a childish move - drinking with someone who hadn't even graduated from college.

Mitchell lay on the bed, half-closing his eyes, and many past scenes flashed through his mind before he fell asleep like that.

In the middle of the night, feeling thirsty, Mitchell woke up and realized he hadn't changed his clothes or taken a shower; he had fallen asleep like that. Now that the alcohol had worn off, he was much more sober. He went downstairs in his daytime clothes to pour himself some water. Just as he reached the first floor, he heard some noise coming from the kitchen. Mitchell walked into the kitchen and saw a figure illuminated by the moonlight. He had intended to call out to her, but his throat was dry, so he approached her first. Just as he reached behind her, the person suddenly turned around. Because they were so close, Mitchell unintentionally kissed her forehead with his lips, leaving both of them stunned.

Willow not only froze in place but was completely shocked. She was feeling a bit thirsty in the middle of the night and thought it was because she had eaten too much spicy shrimp, which had a strong taste. So she decided to go downstairs to get some water. Why didn't she turn on the lights? She was staying at someone else's house and was worried about disturbing others, so she slowly made her way downstairs in the darkness. The kitchen window was open, allowing moonlight to shine through, providing enough visibility. After pouring a cup of water and preparing to go back to her room, the unexpected incident happened when she turned around.

The two were within arm's reach, and Willow could even feel the warm breath coming out of Mitchell's mouth. He still had a faint smell of alcohol on him, and his lowered eyebrows and eyes could be quite enchanting.

Mitchell snapped back to his senses first. His eyelashes twitched as he looked at Willow in her sleepwear, and a blush crept up to his ears. He coughed lightly, slightly turned his face away, took a step back, and hoarsely said, "Why didn't you turn on the lights?".

Willow lowered her head, tightly gripping the hem of her clothes, feeling nervous. "I... I can see," she said before Mitchell had a chance to respond. Without waiting for him, she quickly ran away. "Mitchell, I'll go upstairs first."

Willow hurriedly ran back to her room, closed the door, and leaned against it, slowly squatting down. She placed a hand on her chest. In the darkness, she could clearly hear her own heart pounding fiercely. After a while, she couldn't help but smile foolishly.

After lying back on the bed, Willow's heart still felt like it was beating quickly, and it took a long time for her to fall asleep.

After Willow ran away, Mitchell silently poured two large glasses of ice water and gulped them down to suppress the fire within his body. He forcefully took off his tie and stood in the kitchen for a long time, finally smiling slightly at the corner of his mouth.

Mother Jonah heard Daniel say that Willow was also present the next morning, so she hastily prepared more breakfast. As Daniel looked at the table filled with so much food, he jokingly said, "Mom, you're biased. You know that breakfast is always more abundant when Willow is here."

Mother Jonah smiled and replied, "Of course, it's necessary. It's been so long since Willow last came. I should treat her well." She urged Willow to eat more.

Willow obediently thanked her, saying, "Thank you."

While eating breakfast, Daniel didn't see her dad or her brother around, so she casually asked, "Why don't I see my dad and brother? Haven't they woken up yet?" Daniel found it somewhat unbelievable since her brother was known for his discipline. Did he really drink too much last night?

Willow quietly ate her food while deep in thought. After taking a long time to come downstairs this morning, she had been worried about the awkwardness of seeing Mitchell in the morning. But when she didn't see him, she suddenly felt relieved, yet there was also a hint of disappointment.

"Your dad woke up early, had breakfast, and went fishing," Mother Jonah replied. However, she was also puzzled. Since childhood, her son had always been disciplined, acting like an older man. It was truly unprecedented for him to wake up this late. "Daniel, go upstairs and check. What time did your brother come back last night? Was there anything unusual when he came back?" Mother Jonah asked, concerned.

Daniel stood up after taking a bite of a freshly peeled egg and replied indistinctly, "He came back around eleven, and everything seemed normal last night." Just as he was about to pull out the chair and go upstairs to wake Mitchell up, he saw Mitchell coming downstairs.

"He's already awake. I don't need to go wake him up," Daniel said as he sat back down to continue eating breakfast. Upon seeing her son awake, Mother Jonah quickly called him over to have breakfast.

Mitchell walked lazily over and sat down in the chair across from Willow. Since Mitchell came downstairs, Willow buried her head lower, not daring to look up at him.

As Mitchell sat down, his eyebrows slightly furrowed, he realized he had not slept well last night. After taking a shower in the middle of the night, he lay in bed with the image of the girl sitting in front of him, head down, constantly on his mind. He only managed to doze off for a little while when it was close to dawn.

Son's daughter has recently been coming home frequently, and Mother Jonah can visibly see her happiness. The house is lively and warm, which makes her very happy. Thinking back to the conversation she had with Laura's mom a few days ago, she couldn't help but cheerfully say, "Son, are you doing well with Laura recently? I never see you bringing any girls home to eat. Every time, it's this old mom who has to accompany them shopping and eating. No matter how busy you are, you have to take some time to accompany the girls. How are you going to chase after them with that attitude?"

Daniel, listening to his mom's words, paused his breakfast. He is now very concerned about Mitchell's emotional state and stares at him expectantly as if waiting to see his reaction. After looking for a while, Mitchell's expression remains unchanged, and she doesn't observe anything from him.

Conversely, Willow keeps her head down, eating breakfast and pretending not to hear Mother Jonah talking about Laura.

Mitchell, expressionless and slightly furrowing his brows, doesn't say anything. He looks up at the girl sitting in front of him, unable to guess what she's thinking, and suddenly says, "You've eaten three eggs."

Willow looks up, dumbfounded, and looks at Mitchell with a rapidly reddening face that she can't control.

Mother Jonah and Daniel are both stunned. Mother Jonah suddenly reacts and glares at Mitchell, saying, "Why are you staring at Willow for no reason? If you like eating, eat more. What's wrong with eating three eggs? I saw someone online eat ten eggs once." She then hands Willow another egg and says, "Willow, eat your own, don't mind him."

Willow accepts the egg with a clumsy grace, her smile tinged with an innocent silliness. Mitchell glances at her, his lips curving into a faint, almost imperceptible smile.

After a moment, Willow lifts her gaze to meet his.

As Mitchell methodically peels an egg for himself, he breaks the silence unexpectedly, "Laura and I... we're not a good match."
