Chapter 420 Missing Him on the First Night of Mitchell's Business Trip

Mitchell flew to Maple City a couple of days before Willow was supposed to head to Emerald Isle City for the wedding.

Since his flight was very early, he didn't ask her to see him off. He left early in the morning.

When Willow's alarm went off, she sat up in bed and looked at the empty space beside her. The only sign that Mitchell had slept there was the creased bedsheet, and she felt a sudden wave of sadness.

Actually, she had already felt a bit down the night before while helping Mitchell pack. It wasn't because he couldn't accompany her to the wedding, but because it was the first time they would be apart for such a long time since they got together.

Mitchell said he would probably have to stay in Maple City for at least a week, and if things went slowly, maybe even half a month. This meant he'd still be away even after she returned from the wedding in Emerald Isle City. The thought of only being able to hear each other's voices and see each other through phone calls and video chats for such a long time made her feel gloomy.

However, to avoid making Mitchell worry and to let him go on his business trip with peace of mind, she pretended to be happy while helping him pack. To hide her inner gloom, she deliberately talked a lot more than usual. Although she normally liked to chatter, he still noticed her slight sadness. After they finished packing the suitcase, he pulled Willow, who was still checking to make sure nothing was forgotten.

"Sit down and rest for a bit. Don't worry about the suitcase," Mitchell said, pulling her to sit on the edge of the bed.

"Let's check one more time to make sure nothing's missing. It's a long trip," Willow said, still a bit uneasy and wanting to check the suitcase again.

"It's okay. I have all the important documents," Mitchell said, holding her back.

"Alright," Willow replied, lowering her head.

Mitchell smiled softly and said, "What's wrong? Not happy?"

As he spoke, he raised his hand to touch her head and pinch her cheek.

Willow shook her head, a bright smile spreading across her face. She said softly, "No. Just make sure to eat well and work hard in Maple City..."

She paused and then added earnestly, "I will too."

Mitchell grinned and nodded. "Okay, work hard, eat well, and come back soon."

"Yes." Willow nodded along. "Come back soon."

After they finished packing for the business trip, she also packed her suitcase for the trip to Emerald Isle City. She calculated that she would stay there for about three days, so she didn't need to bring much. A small suitcase was enough. Then she took a shower and prepared to go to bed early.

Since Mitchell's flight was very early, she urged him to shower first while she packed her suitcase. By the time she finished packing, he had already showered and was drying his hair.

His hair was half-dry when he walked out of the bathroom with the hairdryer, giving Willow the bathroom to shower. Then he moved to the bedroom to finish drying his hair.

Since Willow didn't wash her hair, she finished her shower quickly. When she came out of the bathroom, Mitchell had already dried his hair and was lying in bed.

The main light in the bedroom was off, and the bedside lamp was on, casting a warm yellow light on his handsome face. His freshly washed and dried hair hung softly, making him look extremely gentle. He was leaning against the headboard, scrolling through the news on his phone. Hearing the bathroom door open, he immediately looked up from his phone and smiled warmly and indulgently at Willow standing at the bathroom door. He patted the spot next to him, signaling her to come over.

Willow smiled slightly and walked over. Just as she put her feet on the bed, Mitchell suddenly flipped over and pinned her beneath him.

He looked down at her with a mischievous grin.

Sensing what was coming, Willow quickly pushed against his chest and blushed, saying, "Mitchell, you have to get up early for your flight tomorrow."

"We have time," he said, and before she could react, he leaned down and kissed her.

Gradually, she relaxed and closed her eyes.

Willow sat on the bed, staring blankly at the empty spot beside her for a while. Then she took a deep breath, threw off the covers, and got up. After washing up and getting dressed, she walked out of the room.

On the dining table, breakfast was already set, along with a sticky note that read, 'Heat up breakfast and eat before going to work.'

It was signed with a heart and a smiley face.

Seeing the milk and sandwiches on the table, she grinned, feeling much of her gloom and sadness dissipate. She heated the milk and sandwiches in the microwave, ate breakfast, and then drove to work alone for a change.

When she arrived at the office, she happened to run into Elizabeth in the elevator.

Elizabeth looked at her curiously and asked, "Why are you coming to work alone today? Where's Mr. Jonah?"

Since it was just the two of them in the elevator, Willow softly replied, "He's on a business trip." Her voice was a bit downcast.

"Is Mr. Jonah on a business trip? We never get any insider information," Elizabeth said straightforwardly.

Then, noticing Willow's lack of energy, she couldn't help but add, "Willow, Mr. Jonah just left for a business trip, and you already look so down. Now I understand what it means to miss someone as soon as they leave. I think Mr. Jonah should take you with him wherever he goes, so you both don't have to miss each other."

"How do you know he misses me?" Willow asked with a slight smile.

"Oh my gosh, don't you really feel it? Should we randomly ask someone in the office? Mr. Jonah looks at you like he wants to glue his eyes to you during every meeting. You seriously haven't felt that?" Elizabeth exclaimed dramatically.

"It's not that exaggerated," Willow said, feeling a bit embarrassed, her cheeks turning pink.

"Exaggerated? I feel like I can't even accurately describe Mr. Jonah's gaze. I'm at a loss for words," Elizabeth said with a bright smile, teasing Willow.

"Stop teasing." Willow playfully glared at her, looking both innocent and charming.

Elizabeth was momentarily stunned by her look and silently thought to herself that it was no wonder Mitchell wanted to stick to her even during work hours, showing their affection for everyone to see. That look alone made her heart skip a beat.

The two of them walked into the office, laughing and chatting.

Knowing that Mitchell was away, Elizabeth pulled Willow along for lunch.

During work, surrounded by colleagues and the hustle and bustle, Willow didn't feel much. However, when she returned to the quiet apartment after work, the silence felt significantly different. Even though she and Mitchell were usually quiet at home, the warm, peaceful silence was nothing like the lonely silence she felt now.

The first night of Mitchell's business trip, she missed him.
