Chapter 281 How Can It Be Willow
The next day, as soon as Mitchell arrived at the office, he received movie tickets sent by Liam. He stared at the two tickets on his desk for a long time, pondering how to make the invitation.
Mitchell sat in front of his computer in a daze for a while before getting up and heading downstairs. In the small conference room on the 15th floor, the project manager was organizing a meeting with their team members. Willow had prepared a PowerPoint presentation, and after the project manager's brief introduction, Willow took over to explain the details of the collaboration plan and gather feedback.
Mitchell quietly entered the conference room and sat in the back corner. The project manager noticed him and was about to stand up to greet him, but Mitchell's gesture stopped him in time. Everyone else was engrossed in listening to Willow's presentation, and apart from the project manager, no one noticed Mitchell's arrival.
Willow was earnestly explaining her PowerPoint plan, pausing at key points to discuss with everyone. The meeting lasted over two hours. After everyone filed out, Willow stayed behind to organize her materials and pack up her computer. It was only then that she noticed Mitchell sitting in the corner.
"Mitchell! When did you come in?" Willow hadn't noticed when Mitchell had entered the conference room, nor did she know how much he had heard. Luckily, she only saw him at the end; otherwise, she would have been very nervous.
Mitchell walked up to Willow. "I came in just as you started presenting your plan."
"What do you think of the plan? Any suggestions?" Willow asked with a smile, surprised that Mitchell had been there for so long.
"Your plan is excellent, very detailed. You've improved a lot," Mitchell said, not holding back his praise. Willow felt a bit embarrassed and lowered her head. Being recognized by someone she liked felt awkward.
They stood facing each other in silence for a moment before both speaking at the same time, "You..."
Willow, holding her materials, smiled slightly and said, "Mitchell, you go first."
Mitchell glanced out the window, then looked down at the table, feeling his face flush. He hesitated for a while. Willow, puzzled, stared at him, curious about what he wanted to say. "What's up, Mitchell?"
After rehearsing several times in his mind, Mitchell finally uttered, "Liam gave me two movie tickets. Are you free tonight? Would you like to go together?"
Willow, excited, asked, "Is it the one that just came out, with Ophelia in it? I was planning to go with Daniel, but she's been busy. Liam is so unfair, only giving you tickets."
Willow had previously agreed with Daniel to support Ophelia's movie in theaters. Although Ophelia was only the second female lead, her character was very appealing and almost as popular as the lead. However, Daniel had been busy, and the movie had only been out for two days, so they hadn't found time to go. Willow couldn't help but complain about Liam giving the tickets to Mitchell.
Mitchell coughed lightly, embarrassed to explain how he got the tickets, and decided to let Liam take the blame. Usually, their company didn't give out tickets for their own movies; they had to buy them to boost the box office. As Liam would say, even company employees should pay to support the film.
"Are we going together tonight?" Mitchell pressed.
"Sure, free tickets from Liam don't come around often," Willow replied casually. Then, as if something occurred to her, she hesitated before saying, "Mitchell, you could actually invite the girl you like to watch it. It's a romance movie, and it's been getting great reviews and ratings. It would be nice for you two to see it together."
Mitchell's deep, soulful eyes fixed on Willow, giving an impression of unfathomable depth. He simply replied, "Yes."
Willow, clutching her notebook and materials, hurriedly prepared to leave the conference room, but Mitchell stepped in front of her, blocking her path. "We'll go right after work. I'll drive. Meet me in the garage," he said before walking out, leaving Willow standing there, bewildered.
Willow pondered for a long time and came to a conclusion: Did Mitchell invite her to scout the place in advance to avoid any surprises for someone he likes? She felt a bit resentful, thinking she had to do reconnaissance for her rival! If she had known, she would have just said she had plans for the evening.
As soon as the workday ended, Willow received a Facebook message from Mitchell saying: [See you in the garage.]
Mitchell hadn't been able to focus on any documents all day. The stack of files his assistant had brought in for him to sign in the morning remained untouched by the end of the day. The assistant, coming in just before leaving, even wondered if President Jonah knew that these documents needed signing.
Mitchell had never experienced such a mix of anticipation and nervousness. He even foolishly Googled what to prepare when taking a girl to the movies and noted down several tips. He left the office five minutes early and waited in the car.
Willow, carrying her bag, went downstairs. She had left work on time, not expecting Mitchell to already be waiting in the car. She jogged over, got into the passenger seat, buckled her seatbelt, and said, "Let's go, Mitchell."
Mitchell drove to the mall next door, parked the car, and took the elevator to the 6th floor where the cinema was located. They had chosen an early showtime, planning to watch the movie first and then have dinner. Mitchell first took Willow to buy drink and popcorn. Willow was shocked; she had never imagined Mitchell would buy these things, as he usually didn't eat them.
In reality, Mitchell had read online that drink and popcorn were essential for a movie date, so he took Willow to get them. They sat in the lobby waiting for the ticket check. Willow couldn't help but casually ask, "Mitchell, what is the girl you like like?"
Mitchell, sitting across from her, looked up and stared at her face, a slight smile playing on his lips. After what seemed like a long contemplation, he slowly said, "She's very cute, has two faint dimples, likes to snack, and... doesn't always listen."
Listening to Mitchell's earnest description of the girl he liked, Willow suddenly lost her curiosity. She thought, 'I shouldn't have asked, he must really like her.'
Just then, the ticket check began. Mitchell, holding the drink and popcorn, followed Willow into the cinema, looking like a couple on a date.
Not far away, a shadowy figure trailed behind them. When he saw who was walking beside Mitchell, he rubbed his eyes in disbelief and muttered to himself, "What's going on? Did I just see Willow?"
