Chapter 135
He thought to himself that easy prey never gets away, a daring thought fueled by desire. For him, a night with such a woman outweighed any potential risks.
He took the room key from Brianna's hand and made his way into the lobby, following the path Madison had just taken.
Madison made her way unsteadily to the bathroom, feeling incredibly hot and finding it hard to stand. Leaning against the wall for support, she reached the sink and turned on the cold water, splashing it on her face. Despite trying to cool down for a few minutes, she felt even worse, with her vision becoming blurry.
She stumbled out of the bathroom, intending to call Matthew on her cellphone. She didn't know what was wrong, but she felt it was serious. Finding Matthew was imperative.
As Madison exited, an older man followed to the doorway. Spotting her, he reached out with his greasy, chubby hand, attempting to grab her arm.
"Are you okay? Do you need help getting some rest?" he offered.
Madison stepped back, pressing against the wall, her frown deepening. The temperature of her body rose even further with his proximity, her cheeks flushing abnormally.
"Get away from me," Madison snapped, pinching her thigh hard in an effort to maintain consciousness, but her words lacked any forcefulness.
They came out weak, almost inviting further trouble.
The man, seeing her state, realized the drug was taking effect. He hurriedly moved closer, starting to grope her, and grabbed her wrist, pulling her toward the hotel elevators.
Madison fought with all her might to break free, knowing she couldn't let him take her. In her haze, she attempted to locate her phone to call Matthew, but the man swiftly snatched her handbag.
"I'll hold this for you. You can barely stand," he cooed.
The hallway was quiet, and the few passersby assumed they were a couple headed to a room by mutual desire. The man dragged Madison into the elevator.
Despair filled Madison as she murmured, "Matthew, Matthew, where are you?"
The man couldn't decipher her mumbles. His mind focused on getting her into a room where the drugs would compel her to succumb. He chuckled to himself, anticipating the thrill.
"Don't worry, sweetheart, you'll be in heaven soon enough."
Once they were in the room, he'd have his way. Imagining Madison under him, the elevator dinged, and he hauled Madison out toward his room.
Madison was dragged along, her head pounding and heart racing - she was on the verge of collapse.
Matthew emerged from the private box, his new deal sealed, and headed to the lobby's sofa area to find Madison. Not finding her there, he quickly looked around the room and then approached a server to ask about her whereabouts. Fortunately, he had picked the right server, the one who had recently guided Madison to the restroom. "Oh, the lady you're asking about? She headed to the restroom not too long ago."
"When exactly did she leave?" Matthew asked, his brow furrowed and a stern look on his face.
Sensing his agitation, the server didn't dare delay, quickly spilling that it had been nearly twenty minutes.
Alarm bells rang in Matthew's head. Something felt off, and without hesitation, he made a beeline for the restroom.
Positioned outside the women's restroom, it wasn't his place to enter. But when a lady emerged, he couldn't concern himself with formalities. "Excuse me, ma'am, I hate to bother you, but is anyone still inside? My wife's been gone for quite a while, and I'm starting to worry."
The woman, charmed by his looks and surprised he was taken, willingly offered help, "Let me go in and check for you."
In about two minutes, she returned with a regretful look. "I'd love to have helped you, but there's no one inside."
"Are you sure?" Matthew asked, his mind racing. Where else could Madison be if not there?
"Absolutely. I checked every stall. It was empty. I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help."
"Thank you," he said, grateful for her efforts.
"No problem, handsome," she replied with a smile.
Matthew's concern escalated as he pulled out his phone to call Madison. It went straight to voicemail.
Then, by the restroom entrance, his eyes caught a familiar bracelet on the floor. He squatted to pick it up—it was Madison's, a piece he'd just ordered from abroad, not yet available domestically, adorned with a pendant engraved with the initial 'S.' No doubt, it was hers.
A sense of dread gripped him as he realized Madison was in trouble. Understanding the seriousness of the situation, he quickly called Victor.
"Second, get back here now. Madison's missing."
Upon receiving the call, Victor was equally startled. Who would dare in Horizon City, on their turf—could it be the Eagle Eyes?
Without wasting another word, Victor slammed the brakes and made a U-turn, speeding back to the hotel.
Matthew stood there, his stern face radiating an aura that felt as though it could freeze everyone in the vicinity.
He kept dialing Madison's number, his heart pounding with dread.
Hank stood at the end of the corridor, seeing Matthew approaching with a lazy air. He teased, "Hey Matt, where are you off to in such a hurry?"
Matthew gave him a cold glance, suspecting that Hank might have Something to do with Madison's disappearance.
"What's with that look? I'm just saying hi," Hank commented, noticing Matthew's suspicion. He stepped to the side, ready to let him pass with a barely there smirk playing on his lips.
Matthew stopped next to him. "If I find out that my wife's disappearance has anything to do with you."
Hank straightened up, his expression turning serious. "What did you say?"
"Don't play dumb with me," Matthew scorned, thinking Hank missed his calling as an actor. He stepped forward, time pressing.
But Hank wasn't about to let him go. His face was stern. "When did your lady go missing?"
Reading his face, Matthew wondered if he could be wrong about Hank.
"Let me help look for her. You know I'm capable."
After a moment's hesitation, Matthew filled Hank in on the situation.
Frowning deeply, the two men stood in the hallway outside the restroom. Both faces are dark with worry. "She's got to still be in the hotel. You check the security footage, and I'll start searching the floors."
