Chapter 483 Going Back Together

By the streetlamp's glow, Nicholas look at Rachel, asleep on the couch.

She had no idea he was upset. With a soft sigh, he walked over, bent down, and carried her to the bedroom.

Tonight had been rough for him. Rachel was looking at plane tickets to go home, not even thinking about taking him with her. It frustrated him. From the moment he met her, he knew she was independent, capable, caring, and full of ideas. Her lively spirit drew people in.

He'd been serious about their relationship from the start, aiming for marriage. But Rachel had never seemed to think about it, which troubled him.

Nicholas gently laid Rachel on the bed. As soon as he did, she woke up. Groggily, she opened her eyes, saw his face close to hers, and became more alert.

In a hoarse voice, she asked, "Nicholas, are you done with work? I can sleep on the couch tonight. It's fine."

She tried to get up as she spoke.

Nicholas pressed her down gently, his voice deep, "Sleep here."

Rachel was taken aback; it was the first time he'd spoken to her so sternly.

Realizing his tone, Nicholas softened and explained, "I'm done with work. Sleep here. It's too cold on the couch."

"Okay," Rachel nodded and lay back down.

Nicholas lifted the blanket and lay beside her.

They lay there, silent and still. Rachel was now sure Nicholas was in a bad mood. Knowing that, she lost her sleep. After a while, she couldn't help but ask, "Nicholas, did something happen today?"

Nicholas turned to face her, "Rachel, are you happy with me?"

Rachel was taken aback but nodded, "Yeah, I wouldn't put it that way though. Being with you makes me feel at ease."

It was like the years of hardship and loneliness had finally found a place to rest, so the feeling of ease outweighed happiness.

"So, when do you plan to take me to meet your family?" Nicholas's voice was low, hoarse, and filled with a deep sense of grievance.

Rachel was stunned. She thought about it seriously. She now realized his bad mood wasn't because of work but because she was planning to go home without him!

"I don't know," Rachel stammered. It was her first relationship, and she didn't know when it was right to take her boyfriend home. Besides, Nicholas had never mentioned meeting her family before, so she hadn't considered it.

"How about I go back with you this holiday? Let's go see your mom together," Nicholas asked directly.

In the dark, his heart pounded, and his palms sweated from nervousness.

He patiently waited for Rachel's answer.

Rachel's heart pounded too. She respected the answer deep in her heart and gently replied, "Okay."

Nicholas felt a surge of joy. He turned over, propped himself above Rachel, and lowered his head to give her a gentle kiss. Trying to control himself, he whispered hoarsely in her ear, "Rachel, can I?"

Rachel blushed, bit her lower lip, and gave a silent nod.

Nicholas kissed her red lips again, slowly and tenderly.

Rachel was nervous, her whole body tense. She felt a bit annoyed. The first times, she had been drunk, and the second time, she had blacked out and didn't remember anything.

Now, both of them were sober, and every sensation was magnified, making her feel very shy.

As Nicholas' kiss traced downward, Rachel's tense body gradually relaxed. The changes in her body made her feel a bit scared and nervous. She gripped the bedsheet tightly, trembling slightly.

Nicholas was nervous too. The first time, they were both drunk, and the second time, nothing happened. Now, both of them were sober, and everything was different.

He worried he might not do well and even asked Rachel in a low voice how she felt.

Rachel blushed and couldn't say a word, let alone answer his embarrassing questions.

This time, she felt everything very clearly, and it actually felt quite good.

The next morning, she still felt shy and stayed under the blanket, refusing to get up. It wasn't until Nicholas bought breakfast and called her that she slowly got up.

After breakfast, she called her mom, Esme, to tell her when she'd be coming home for the holiday. She also mentioned she wasn't coming back alone.

At first, Esme thought Madison was coming with her, but then she realized and said, "Wait, who are you coming back with? Madison called me recently and said she's close to her due date and can't travel. You shouldn't let her travel around in her late pregnancy."

"Mom, it's not Madison. Mr. Nelson is watching her so closely, she can't go anywhere," Rachel said, holding the phone.

Esme was puzzled. "Then who are you bringing back?"

"Well..." Rachel stammered for a long time but couldn't say it.

Esme was getting anxious. "Come on, who is it? Don't tell me you suddenly had a revelation and are bringing a boyfriend back."

She joked, as she had urged Rachel several times before, but Rachel always said she wasn't in a hurry, so Esme had stopped pushing.

"How did you know, Mom?" Rachel was startled by her mom's words and blurted out.

Now it was Esme's turn to be confused. "Know what?"

"A boyfriend," Rachel said in a low voice.

There was silence on the other end for a long time.

"Hello, Mom, are you still there?" Rachel asked, puzzled by the lack of response.

Esme said, "I'm here, I'm so happy. When are you coming? I need to prepare. Is my future son-in-law there? Let me see him on video."

Rachel covered the phone, glanced at Nicholas who was wiping the table, and said nervously, "He's not here, Mom. You'll see him when we get back."

"Okay, I'll be waiting for you at home," Esme said happily and hung up.

Rachel finally found a boyfriend and was bringing him home to meet her. That meant their relationship was stable enough for her to bring him back. Esme knew Rachel well; she had always been steady and reliable, so this must be serious.

Esme had been overjoyed since she received the call.
