Chapter 482 A Tiny Embryo
Willow was still asleep when Danielle showed up at 6:00 p.m., and Mitchell, wearing an apron, was cooking. He went to open the door for her.
Danielle wasn't surprised to see Mitchell in an apron; he often cooked since he and Willow got together.
As soon as Danielle walked in, she looked around for Willow.
Not seeing her, she asked, "Mitchell, where's Willow?"
Mitchell turned back to the kitchen. "She's still asleep. Just chill for a bit. I'll call her when the food's ready."
Danielle shrugged and plopped down on the couch, flipping on the TV. She thought about waking Willow herself, but Mitchell's tone made it clear he didn't want her to. So, she waited in the living room. Luckily, about twenty minutes later, Mitchell brought out the food.
He took off his apron and said, "Wash up and get ready to eat. I'll wake Willow."
Danielle jumped up. "Okay, go get her."
Willow woke up to Mitchell's call and saw Danielle was already there. She washed her face and came out, embarrassed. "Danielle, why didn't you wake me?"
Danielle glanced at Mitchell, then smiled and walked over. "I just got here. Pregnant women need their sleep, so I let you rest."
She gently placed her hand near Willow's belly, hesitant to touch. "Is my little niece or nephew in there? I'm so excited. Can I feel them? Will they kick?"
"They won't move yet; it's just a tiny embryo," Willow said with a smile.
Mitchell called them over to eat. He had made a lot of dishes, mostly non-spicy, with one exception just for Danielle.
Willow had a great appetite, eating way more than before, which left Danielle wide-eyed.
She thought, 'The baby in Willow's belly might be a foodie.'
After dinner, Danielle chatted with Willow for a while. Seeing her yawn, she told her to rest and sensibly left.
Mitchell walked her downstairs and called a car for her. "Be safe. Message me when you get home."
Danielle got in the car, rolled down the window, and waved. "Got it, Mitchell. Go back upstairs. I'm leaving."
Mitchell nodded and watched the car drive away before heading back upstairs. When he returned to the apartment, he went straight to the bedroom.
Willow was lying in bed but not asleep. Hearing the door, she groggily asked, "Did Danielle leave?"
Mitchell walked to the bedside. "Yeah, she went home. Why aren't you asleep?"
Willow squinted and looked at Mitchell. "I feel sleepy but can't fall asleep yet."
She had tossed and turned several times though.
"I'll take a shower and then join you," Mitchell said softly, kissing her forehead.
"Okay," Willow agreed with a smile.
When Mitchell came out of the shower, he found that Willow, who had just said she couldn't sleep, was already out cold. He couldn't help but smile, walked to the bed, lifted the covers, and lay down beside her.
As soon as he lay down, Willow automatically snuggled up to him. Mitchell smiled and held her close.
In a few days, it would be New Year’s. Rachel started preparing to go back home. This year, because Madison was pregnant, the studio didn't take many orders, making this the most relaxed holiday since they started the studio. She planned to inform Madison and go home a week early to spend the holiday with her mom.
Lately, things had slowed down, and Rachel had been staying at Nicholas's place.
But Nicholas got busier as the holidays approached. He was in the tourism development business, and with everyone going on vacation, the two resorts his company developed were swamped.
Rachel helped out with some logistics while staying with him.
After dinner, Nicholas took over cleaning up and washing the dishes since Rachel had been doing the grocery shopping and cooking. He handled the other chores after meals.
Rachel sat cross-legged on the couch, browsing plane tickets.
Nicholas, having cleaned the kitchen, walked over, drying his hands. He saw her looking at tickets and asked, "When are you heading back to Frostpine?"
Rachel, still focused on her phone, replied, "I'm planning to go a week before the holidays. It's not too busy this year, so I'll go back early to spend time with my mom. I'll call her tomorrow and then buy the ticket."
Nicholas dried his hands and sat down beside her without saying a word.
Rachel turned to look at him and asked, "What about you? Are you busy until the day before New Year's? When are you going back?"
Nicholas leaned back on the couch and replied, "I don't have to be busy until then. I can finish a week early too."
"Then you can go back early too," Rachel said with a smile.
"Yeah." Nicholas seemed uninterested in the idea of an early holiday. "Can you go back alone?"
"Of course, I go back alone every year. I just need to take a cab from the airport to get home. It's very convenient," Rachel replied without thinking. She had been doing this for years and was very familiar with it.
"I'm going to take a shower," Nicholas said and got up to go to the bedroom.
Rachel sensed that he seemed to be in a bad mood, which was strange since he had been fine during dinner. After browsing her phone for a while, she also got up and went to the bedroom.
Nicholas had already finished his shower and was sitting at the desk, focused on his work.
Rachel didn't want to disturb him, so she took her pajamas and went to the bathroom to shower. When she came out, Nicholas was still at the desk. Not wanting to interrupt his work, she took her blanket and went to the living room.
She turned on the TV, lay on the couch, and wrapped herself in the blanket.
The couch was quite large, just the right size for her to sleep on, much more comfortable than it would be for Nicholas, who was taller than her. She decided to sleep on the couch tonight and let Nicholas use the bedroom for work.
Although they had silently agreed to share the bed since the last time they slept together, tonight Nicholas seemed to be in a bad mood, probably due to some work-related issue. Since he hadn't said anything, Rachel decided to give him some space. When he was ready to talk, he would.
Rachel watched TV for a while and started to feel sleepy. She turned off the TV and the living room lights and lay down on the couch to sleep.
Nicholas, after reviewing a few documents in the bedroom, noticed that Rachel wasn't in bed. He hurriedly ran out, opened the bedroom door, and saw that the living room lights were off. Thinking she had left, he rushed towards the door. As he passed the couch, he caught a glimpse of her lying there, and he was relieved.
