Chapter 421 The Loneliness of One Person

After Willow got off work and went home, she cooked some pasta. Just as she was about to eat, she received a call from Mitchell. She eagerly answered the phone, her tone light and cheerful. "Mitchell."

On the other line, Mitchell had just arrived at the hotel. Calculating the time, he figured Willow should be home from work, so he called her immediately. His deep, pleasant voice came through the phone. "Are you having dinner?"

"Yes, I am," Willow glanced at the plain pasta on the table and answered somewhat guiltily.

Before Mitchell left, they had agreed to eat well, but being alone in a cold, empty house made her not want to cook. She just wanted to fill her stomach with something simple. When she lived alone before, she often did the same, only cooking when she felt like it. Otherwise, she would eat simple meals or dine out.

"What are you eating?" Mitchell's pleasant voice continued from the other line.

"Pasta," Willow replied honestly.

"Didn't we agree to eat well?" Mitchell wasn't angry; his tone was consistently gentle, without a hint of anger.

"You’re not here, so I don't feel like cooking," Willow bit her lip and said softly.

Mitchell stood by the floor-to-ceiling window of the penthouse suite in the most luxurious hotel in Maple City, smiling. "Don't eat the pasta. I'll order something delicious for you."

He knew Willow well; her pasta was always plain, and she wouldn't even fry an egg, so it wasn't nutritious.

"It's okay. I added sausage today, and I'm almost done eating." Willow sweetly replied, her voice like the soft purrs of a kitten in his ear, making him wish he could be by her side.

"Alright, but no pasta tomorrow," Mitchell instructed.

Willow obediently replied, "I know."

Then, for a moment, neither of them spoke, quietly listening to each other's breathing over the phone.

Willow broke it by asking, "Mitchell, what are you doing?"

"I'm thinking about you," Mitchell blurted out, then smiled.

Willow held the phone without speaking, feeling her cheeks heat up.

"What about you? Are you thinking about me?" Mitchell asked with a low laugh.

Willow didn't speak for a long time, and Mitchell patiently held the phone, waiting for her answer.

Finally, unable to resist, Willow softly replied with one word, "Yes."

Their first phone call after being apart lasted almost an hour before they reluctantly hung up. After the call, Willow's pasta had gone cold and mushy, and she had lost her appetite. She was about to take a shower and go to bed when there was a knock at the door. Puzzled, she ran to open it and found a delivery guy holding two large bags of food, including snacks and fruit.

"I didn't order delivery; you must have the wrong address," Willow said, looking confused.

"Is this room 2807?" the delivery guy asked.

Willow nodded blankly. "Yes."

"Are you Mrs. Nelson?" the delivery guy continued to ask.

Willow nodded again.

This time, the delivery guy handed her the bags and said, "Then it's correct. All the information is on the order; we don't make mistakes. Maybe your family ordered it for you. You can check with them. I've got to rush to my next delivery. See you!"

With that, he hurried off.

Willow carried the two large bags of food inside, stared at them for a moment, and then took out her phone to call Mitchell. The phone rang for a while before he picked up. She could hear Mitchell speaking in foreign language with someone in the background.

After a moment, he spoke to her, "What's up?"

"Mitchell, did you order delivery for me?" Willow glanced at the pile of food and asked.

Mitchell's gentle voice came through. "Yes, has it arrived? That was fast; I didn't even get a chance to tell you. It's all snacks and fruits you like. I noticed the fridge was running low on fruit before I left, and since you're not going to Emerald Isle City until the day after tomorrow, you should have some fruit at home."

"Okay." Willow felt an overwhelming sense of happiness, smiling from ear to ear. She could have bought these things herself, but Mitchell always took care of everything for her, making her feel increasingly spoiled.

"You go ahead and get busy. I'll sort out the food that just arrived and then take a shower and go to bed," Willow said, sensing that Mitchell seemed busy and not wanting to take up more of his time.

"Alright, wait for me to come home," Mitchell said softly.

"Okay," Willow replied shyly.

Then they hang up.

Willow put the snacks into the snack storage box and organized the fruits in the fridge before taking a shower.

Lying in bed afterward, she received a Facebook message from Danielle asking when she would be going to Emerald Isle City and if she could have dinner the next day.

She replied that her flight was the morning after tomorrow, and they agreed to have dinner the next evening.

Lying alone in the big bed, she tossed and turned for almost an hour before falling into a light sleep. In the middle of the night, she instinctively reached out to the side, only to find it empty, which woke her up. Without Mitchell there, no one would automatically pull her into a warm embrace when she reached out.

She really missed him. In the latter half of the night, she couldn't sleep.

The next morning, she woke up with heavy dark circles under her eyes. Even after applying foundation for a long time, she couldn't completely cover them. Looking exhausted, she went to work, and even the manager noticed and asked with concern, "Willow, why do you look so bad? Mr. Jonah is on a business trip; don't get sick, or how will I explain it to him?"

"I'm fine, manager. Just didn't sleep well last night," Willow explained softly.

"Don't stay up late too often," the manager nagged as he shook his head and walked back to his office.

Since she was taking leave to go to Emerald Isle City, she was quite busy for the next two days, needing to complete a lot of work in advance. Apart from lunch breaks and bathroom trips, she hardly left her desk.

Danielle rushed over from the set around six in the evening.

They had arranged to meet at a restaurant Danielle had chosen. She said she would drive Willow's car from the office, so after work, Willow stayed at the office, continuing to handle work while waiting for her.
