Chapter 284 Let's Go Together
After hanging up with Willow, Madison opened the door and returned to the hospital room. Inside the shared room, Matthew and Quentin lay on separate beds. Matthew was still unconscious, while Quentin had fallen back asleep. Hannah, exhausted, was sleeping on the couch. Madison walked over, gently covering Hannah with a blanket. The little one was in a deep slumber, a peaceful smile gracing her lips. Madison then sat by Matthew's bed, holding his hand, her gaze fixed on his peaceful face. A sense of relief washed over her, "You're both safe. That's all that matters."
Madison was the first to notice Quentin's fall into the water. She immediately sought help. At that moment, Matthew was with Hannah at the playground. Upon hearing Madison's call, he swiftly handed Hannah to her and rushed to Quentin's aid. Madison explained, "Quentin was surfing, and a wave swept him away." Without hesitation, Matthew plunged into the water. It took great effort, but he managed to reach Quentin. The rescue team soon followed, and together they brought them to safety. Quentin had swallowed some water and passed out from fear as Matthew was carrying him back. A wave hit, causing his head to collide with the surfboard, knocking him unconscious. Fortunately, the rescue team arrived in time, bringing them both to the hospital.
Madison recalled the events of the day, still shaken. She never expected such a turn of events. She couldn't help but think, "If only they had rested at the hotel, none of this would have happened." Thankfully, the doctor assured them that both Matthew and Quentin were fine. They would be discharged after another check-up in the morning.
Madison prepared a basin of warm water and helped Matthew freshen up. She then attended to Quentin, making sure they were both comfortable. It had been an exhausting hour. After quickly showering and changing, Madison remained by Matthew's side throughout the night, too afraid to sleep. Though the doctor said Matthew would not wake until the next day, she didn't want to miss a moment.
Madison was in a daze, half-asleep, half-awake, as she cared for the three of them. It was a tiring task, but she was grateful for the nurses' assistance. As dawn approached, exhaustion finally overcame her, and she fell asleep by Matthew's bed.
Willow had packed her bags the previous night, anticipating an early departure. As she received Mitchell's call, she hurriedly finished getting ready. Mitchell, already waiting downstairs, had brought breakfast for her. Feeling a mix of surprise and warmth, Willow hastened her preparations and soon joined him. Mitchell's gaze never left the entrance, afraid of missing Willow's descent. He had not given much thought to the situation with Matthew's family. His immediate reaction was to offer his support. Willow and Madison, being two young women, would need assistance. He had to be there for them.
Mitchell had never expected their first trip together to be under such circumstances. He had initially planned a beach getaway as a surprise for Willow. He had woken up early to buy her favorite breakfast and arrived at her apartment, waiting patiently. Willow, like a gust of wind, emerged from the building. Mitchell quickly got out of the car and took her luggage. Sitting in the passenger seat, Willow was catching her breath, her face flushed. Mitchell couldn't help but notice her doll-like face, with big, sparkling eyes. He handed her the breakfast, suggesting she eat something.
With a smile, Willow took Mitchell's breakfast bag and exclaimed, "Wow, are these the sandwiches from the school gate?" Mitchell nodded in response. With her mouth full, Willow took a bite of the sandwich and said, "It's delicious."
Mitchell, noticing Willow's discomfort, asked with concern, "What's wrong?" Willow couldn't help but laugh at his expression. "It's nothing, just a bit cold. Did you buy them early?" Willow knew the school gate sandwiches opened early, and you might not get any if you didn't go early. Many students from A University knew that to get those sandwiches, they had to set an alarm and get up early to queue.
Mitchell felt a bit embarrassed, his ears turning red. He pretended to look out the window and said, "Yes, I was afraid they would run out if I went later. If they're cold, don't eat them. We can buy something else at the airport later. I don't want you to get sick." Mitchell was about to take the sandwiches and dispose of them. He hadn't anticipated this problem. He hadn't woken Willow up when he bought breakfast, and the sandwiches had gone cold.
So, when you start to release your feelings for someone, you become extremely cautious in their presence, just like Mitchell was now.
