Chapter 263 Making a Decision
All the water in Daniel's mouth sprayed out at once, causing Mitchell to furrow his brows slightly. "Why are you so careless?" He handed her tissues, and Daniel hurriedly took them to wipe away the water. Then, he turned to look at her brother, somewhat puzzled, and asked, "Willow is dating someone? Why didn't I know?"
Mitchell unconsciously gripped the steering wheel tighter. "That kid Jimmy just now, isn't Willow dating him? Wasn't it because they went on a date to the mountaintop that she caught a cold?"
Daniel's response was slow, and it took him a while to realize that his brother was talking about Jimmy. "You mean Jimmy? He's not Willow's boyfriend. He's just a younger student. But recently, Willow found out that they met when they were kids. Willow's grandmother's house is next door to Jimmy's grandmother's house. But Jimmy definitely has feelings for our Willow," Daniel confidently said.
"Is that so?"
"My intuition can't be wrong. His obvious intentions are written all over his face. He's definitely interested in our Willow," Daniel declared.
"What about Willow? Does she like younger guys?" Mitchell asked tentatively.
Daniel didn't notice why his brother had so many questions today and continued to analyze on his own. "Who doesn't like young and handsome men? Men always like younger and more beautiful girls. Why can't women like young and handsome boys? Look at how popular those young and handsome boy bands are. It shows how big the market is for young and handsome boys," Daniel said. As he spoke, he felt the air in the car getting colder. Looking at his brother's tight-lipped profile, he hesitated to continue. Did his brother think he was too old and feel disappointed? "But Willow doesn't like younger and handsome guys."
"Then what type does she like?" Mitchell blurted out and immediately felt awkward. He coughed lightly to cover it up. "I'm just curious. Neither of you is in a relationship, and Mom is worried."
Daniel's voice wavered, tinged with a mix of fear and mischief. "She's got... feelings for you... more than you might realize," he stammered, his hand instinctively coming to rest over his heart as if to steady it from betraying Willow's secret. Then, with a hint of relief, he added, "But then again, I can't be certain." His last words were an attempt to retreat from the edge of revelation, simplifying the tangled emotions into ambiguity.
Mitchell's expression shifted, one eyebrow arching inquisitively at Daniel's fumbling disclosure. "There are aspects of her life that remain a mystery to me as well," he remarked, his voice steady yet carrying a subtle note of melancholy. "Isn't she still holding a torch for that childhood friend who moved overseas?" The question hung in the air, laced with a hint of sadness that Mitchell couldn't quite conceal.
Daniel didn't immediately realize who his brother was talking about, so he turned his head to look at him, puzzled. Mitchell reminded him, "Didn't she get heavily drunk at graduation because of that person? And she hasn't been in a relationship since graduation because she's waiting for that person to come back?" Daniel suddenly understood and screamed for help in his mind. That person was just a fabrication. Why did his brother remember it so clearly? She had long forgotten about it.
"Oh...that person, Willow, doesn't like him anymore. Yes, she doesn't like him anymore." Daniel felt it necessary to end this lie and not bring it up randomly again in case he mixed things up in his confusion.
The car had already pulled into the garage of the Jonah Family Villa. After Mitchell turned off the engine, he didn't intend to get out of the vehicle. He turned his head and looked at Daniel. "Willow doesn't like that male classmate who went abroad to study, huh?"
Daniel sat in the passenger seat, wondering why his brother's mood changed so quickly. He seemed a bit happy. She nodded forcefully. Mitchell smirked slightly. "Let's get out of the car."
Daniel, perplexed, opened the car door and followed her brother into the house, thinking about this fickle man.
Father Jonah and Mother Jonah should have been asleep. The two siblings went upstairs together, passing by Daniel's room. She planned to go back to her room to wash up and sleep. Mitchell walked ahead, stopped, turned around, and called out to Daniel, who was about to go back to her room, "Don't take Willow out to eat shrimp with that guy."
Daniel was stunned and asked, "Why?"
Mitchell turned back to his room, and after a while, he answered, "The shrimps outside are unsanitary."
Daniel pushed the door open inexplicably and walked into the room, muttering to herself, "We've been eating street food for ages, and now he suddenly cares so much."
After Mitchell returned to his room, his gloomy mood seemed much better. He took out his wallet from his pocket and stared at the photo inside for a long time. He silently made a decision, a decision he had been waiting for a long time.
After everyone left, Willow still wanted to go to the kitchen to wash the dishes. But when she walked into the kitchen, she found that it had already been cleaned up. She was slightly stunned and remembered that when Daniel was eating shrimp, the three of them were chatting in the dining room, and Mitchell seemed to have stayed in the kitchen for a while. At that time, she was too preoccupied to notice. Now, thinking back, it appeared that Mitchell was probably tidying up the dishes. If she hadn't been taken care of by Mitchell since childhood, she would really suspect that Mitchell had feelings for her.
Accustomed to Mitchell's care all these years, Willow didn't think too much of Mitchell cooking for her today. After taking cold medicine and preparing to go back to sleep, she felt that her body was recovering well today. She should be able to go to work normally tomorrow, so Willow didn't take a day off.
After taking a shower and lying on the bed, Willow didn't feel sleepy, wondering if she had slept too much during the day. With the lights off, she lay down and tried to sleep, but after tossing and turning for quite a while, she still couldn't fall asleep. She decided to get up, turned on the light, and half-sat at the head of the bed, starting to play with her phone. After watching a few videos, she remembered that she still needed to check Jimmy's paper for him. Since she couldn't sleep anyway, she might as well help him with it.
Willow picked up her laptop and brought it to bed. She opened her email to find the paper Jimmy had sent her a few days ago.
After skimming through the research topic of the paper, she realized it was quite similar to the one she had graduated with. However, she had yet to tell Jimmy that her thesis and design had been rejected multiple times before Mitchell helped her revise it and finally passed. Now, being asked to help edit Jimmy's paper made her feel guilty.
Willow briefly scanned the entire paper. While she had gained practical experience through various projects, she needed to be more confident in providing references and professional knowledge. She planned to dig out her graduate thesis tomorrow and use it as a reference. After all, the paper, revised by Mitchell, had earned her an excellent grade.
After spending over an hour working on the laptop, Willow turned it off and put it away. With the effects of the cold medicine she had taken for dinner kicking in, she started to feel drowsy.
She grabbed her phone from the bedside table and set the alarm clock before turning off the lights and going to sleep.
